< report >Hey, no problem if you take your time with replying, there is not really anyone or anything else here in this thread at this point after all :D

Have you played Danganronpa? I only completed the first one, which was ok.

I did indeed play 1 and 2, just not DR v 3 until now. I think the cases and mystery in the second game put it above the first. Also found the cast more interesting, but i wouldn't say either of them having well fleshed out characters, honestly. Zero Escape, from what i heard is supposed to be very similar in that regard.

There's a similar game called Exile Election which I know almost nothing about.
That sounds cool. I have to look into it. I'm always up for more death game type of content. :)

You mentioned Yu-No, I remember getting the original ages ago, but never got around to it 'cuz I heard it was a complex game.

Did you ever play steins;gate? If you have, Yu-No is not that much more complex in it's story elements than that, and it is very obvious how s;g was inspired by it as well, making it just very important to the medium as a whole. The old version will need a walkthrough however, because this game limits your saves to an in game item you get more of as you play further into it. I still found that a pain in the ass in the remake, but at least they added some qol features like color coding, to that which makes it less of an issue.

I did hear about this Spun Glass vn a few times by now but there is so much conflicting info and i gotta be honest the time investment and all ages nature of it make me very hesitant to try hopping into that for myself.

In regards to 3DXchat, it does have VR mode but most people don't use it that way... also, I am going to take a break from it and go back to VNs and games... I realised that I was getting a bit addicted to it.

That sounds less like i imagined it would be, tbh. Good for you in recognizing at which point it might get unhealthy, i think as long as that is the case you will be fine.

As for getting back to vns, it looks like i'm the opposite, atm. I did fuck around with an rpgmaker thingy called Summer Memories and had a bit of fun, but the way the ui was designed drove me up the wall and now for a few days i just looked at what to even play of those types of games, be it wolf rpg editor or rpgm stuff. I didn't find something i want to invest time into and just opted for getting full saves for most of these and checking the porn out to see if it's even worth my time, and spoiler, for the most part it wasn't. I have to say i never really gelled with traditional jrpg combat and most of those use exactly that. I only saw grinding as the ultimate solution and never anything really strategically sound, and that is what made me stop playing most of them after a few years. I might just need to take a real break for a few weeks and decide what to even do with my time.

If you're looking for a good plot-heavy game based on the Source engine, check out Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines.

Yup, i do know about it and own it on steam, but i never really tried it. RPGs take a lot of time investment, like you said before, too. And that is a big roadblock in getting into them, not exactly the same but the big roadblock which is modding the crap out of it also never let me really go deep into any elder scrolls game, despite me owning every single one besides the MMO. I already was addicted to a shitty mmo as a teen and i won't make that mistake again, so i just decided to stay away from that genre for good.

Anyway have fun with the Dreamfall games, magi-tech settings can be really cool if done right so i understand the draw. Just not a fan of playing form a female pov, tbh.

Edit: If you just type Utawarerumono like that it seems to put a link into it's place, which i find strange and weird. Guess i have to do v 3 or v-3 form now on. :DLast modified on 2021-10-16 at 21:39

< report >Hey!

@ Danganronpa.

Yes, I heard that the second one is the best because of the cases and the cast. I liked the cast of 1, was cool. I don't remember much about the second one. I have to replay both. Never got past the first chapter of DR2.
I saw spoilers for V3 and it doesn't seem like I'd enjoy it.
I've been sick these days and stuck in bed, so I'm replaying AA4 (Apollo Justice) on my phone. I'm on the final case.
It's not as bad as people say, I guess opinions are divisive because of the change of protagonist.
I have yet to play the 3D games and the spin-offs. But I prefer the 2D pixel art style.

I should really try Steins;Gate. I downloaded it many years ago when there was the Fan-TL but I never got far. As I said before, I end up getting too overwhelmed and distracted.

I heard about the save-gems in the old YU-NO. I have more interest in the old version because of the soundtrack and the sprites.

If you ever try out Spun Glass, tell me if you enjoy it.

I saw that Summer Memories game - not gonna lie, I almost got it because it has simulation elements and the pixel art is cute, but it seems shallow overall. Most of these doujinshi that is getting published on Steam seem kinda lame.
There's an H-RPG that doesn't look half bad, it's called False Myth and I almost thought about playing it, but the reviews are mixed. It seems dark.

As I said before, I'm into the the idea of RPGs but I get tired of the combat just like you. I tested a fuck ton of MMORPGs as a kid but never stuck with them for long (with few exceptions, like Grand Chase, which I still love). They're more bearable if you play with others.
What shitty MMOG did you play as a teenager?

My best friend always seems to plan an strategy when playing RPGs, and he chooses the hardest ones he can get his hands on. I wish I was like him.

As for Elder Scrolls, same! I end up getting mods before even starting the game proper, and then I just get the feeling that I should play vanilla and never do.

I got reminded of Summertime Saga (which is like a NSFW adventure game) and Degrees of Lewdity (text-based lolige). They're decent timewasters I guess. The latter is hard, though.

I understand not wanting to playing from a female POV. Dreamfall has multiple protags IIRC.
I don't remember, and I haven't opened the game lately, so I'm still in the first chapters.

I've been watching films and TV shows these days, too. I'm usually picky and not always in the mood for that, but there's a ton of stories I want to see. Maybe do that? :D

< report >Hi there!

I heard about the save-gems in the old YU-NO. I have more interest in the old version because of the soundtrack and the sprites.
If you are in it for the pixel art, then yup that is your best bet, the soundtrack can be switched in the remake, though. Also, i recently tried to install that thing and wow it is such a hassle. I usually install something and copy it onto my backup drive to just drag and drop it at will, without doing some .bat install path fuckery for it (which i'm very terrible at due to never really needing to do that kind of thing myself) there is no way that will work. So a heads-up on that end. It is just that kind of game that will give you technical problems if you want a convenient drag and drop kind of version of it.

As for "Spun Glass" i need way more info on that game, but i'm sure to let you know. Maybe we can add each other on steam or something? Just to have a better way of chatting? Honestly kinda tired in missing this thread with the vndb notification system all the time -.-

There's an H-RPG that doesn't look half bad, it's called False Myth and I almost thought about playing it, but the reviews are mixed. It seems dark.

I have to look into that. I'm on and off between dark and light-hearted stuff all the time, so that could be cool one of these days.

As for dark and rpg, i think i mentioned this one before?
link But this one doesn't just look like Sweet Home on the NES (RE inspiration) it sadly also plays like it. I only even started it because you can turn BL content off and play it that way. But i still hate most of the design decisions the dev made, for example there is no map in this game and shadows are where the random encounters hit you the most. It's a neat thing now around haloween yeah, but holy crap do i not get missing qol stuff that should be a default these days. Hell the dev did make a "save everywhere" concession to the design of this game, so there is not even an excuse for other basic shit missing from it. -.-
This is a great example of replicating something "for nostalgia" and missing the fact that you release it in 2014 (jap) or like fakku in english now in 2021. You can not expect to have the same stupid shit in a game these days.

Hell, many indies fall into that trap, let's be honest. This is also why i love indies that update these ideas and refine them so much, shovel knight is a great example and the devs of that understood it. Sadly the abaddon dev seems to have missed the memo. I might pick that thing up later in the month again, but for now after 4 hours i had my fill.

What shitty MMOG did you play as a teenager?

Is this even a thing internationally? It was called Last Chaos. I regret ever getting swept up in that, it had the typical power-levelling noob problem, and i only played it because of the friend group i was with at the time. Wasted way too much time on it..

My best friend always seems to plan an strategy when playing RPGs, and he chooses the hardest ones he can get his hands on. I wish I was like him.

This leads me to guess he primarily plays wrpgs and not jrpgs, right? Also sounds a hell of a lot like the min-max type of guy. I never really got that mindset, but more power to him if he has fun and finds ways to break the games like that, it is always cool to at least listen to stories of those types. Like all those eve online war things and stuff or how you get so op in morrowind or oblivion the game can not even hurt you anymore. All of that always sounded very cool to me, but i never got to that point.

I mostly grew up on jprg's and preferred action rpgs like secret of mana very soon after. I do love the FF music, honestly most of squaresoft and later squarenix's soundtracks are amazing. But playing the same turn based combat grind over and over again got boring for me so fast i just didn't bother with these games again. I got into the Ys game series a short few years ago and YS 8 was everything i ever hoped a modern Secret of Mana style game to be, so i much prefer nihon falcom games over anything the big boys do these days.

I got reminded of Summertime Saga (which is like a NSFW adventure game)
I heard of that game before, but maybe i'm way too fixated on great 2D sprites in a vn, because much like that snow daze thing cypress zeta put out a few years the art always was the biggest turn off for me to even bothering with either of them. On that note, snow daze could fit in here, as far as tags go, right?

Degrees of Lewdity (text-based lolige). They're decent timewasters I guess. The latter is hard, though.
Maybe that sounds funny given my interest in vns and all, but i honestly never was a reader only type. I don't think text-based only vns will ever work well for me. Hell, i can not even get into Light Novels either (i tried with KonoSuba and ReZero a few times) and that is really a big issue for me. There could be so much cool shit i'm missing out on and i even know that. Maybe i have to try with something short first, so if there is something you recommend on that end, go ahead and feel free.

I've been watching films and TV shows these days, too. I'm usually picky and not always in the mood for that, but there's a ton of stories I want to see. Maybe do that? :D
I do plan on re-watching the nolan batman and rami spider-man movie trilogies soon, so yeah, i already am with you on that.Last modified on 2021-10-23 at 12:46
