It's strange that there has yet to be a thread about it but I'm sure people are aware that Newrin is to be officially released in two days (August 15th) on Steam. From what I could gather, there will be three versions:
- All-ages, steam release with censored sexually suggestive text and H content removed;
- 17+ release with restored text but no H content;
- 18+ release with both the text and H content intact.

The free content restoration patch will be released alongside the game. I do not know if the patch can be used for the 17+ releases or where the 17+ or the 18+ releases will be sold. Perhaps the JAST store would be a good choice?

According to the FAQ, the 18+ version will be completely uncensored, including the mosaics.

For more information, look at the kickstarter or the official project page.

How excited are you for Newrin? Which version are you most interested in?Last modified on 2018-08-13 at 01:50

apparently the 18+ release won't be sold anywhere, they're doing a steam+patch release only.

Here's their tweet about it

#3 Is it really this hard for companies to just talk to JAST or MangaGamer? Really, I don't understand why any localization company would gravitate towards Steam only; you'd think that it wouldn't cost them too much more money to sell it on an outside site.

Steam is more widely used, so more people across the hub will be more likely to notice it. MangaGamer or JAST are more obscure to find. I only found out about them WHEN I bought their games from Steam.Last modified on 2018-08-13 at 18:09

Even if they sell on Steam, there's still the option of reaching out to different distributors. If they advertised since day one that the 18+ version of the game would be sold on JAST or MG store, I'm sure at least a few hundred people would be aware of it. They most likely have to discuss this with Laplace.

I'm not saying that it needs to be exclusive to MG or JAST. All I'm saying is that they should give an option that doesn't require Steam, considering the distaste some people have for it. It can still be on there; they would just sell it on MG, JAST, or even Fakku as well.

Believe it or not people certain people want to keep face in front of advertisers and are afraid that doors close in front of them if they are affiliated with porn/18+ materials.

I don't understand why these people localize Eroge then though...

#7 I guess they are not aware of it, don't trust, don't care, or discussion with those platform owners is hard.
#8 They could localize all-age only games (18+ is non-existence in any release). The problem is that those companies will have smaller pool of VNs to localize. If they only localize all-age version while Japan has 18+ version, people will complain about censorship.Last modified on 2018-08-14 at 22:01
