That's just some stupid question I was wondering after looking at some VN's relations and being surprised at how huge and confusing some of these are, was just wondering what's the larget and most confusing VN's sequels, prequels, fandisc and all that stuff. Thanks in advance for anyone answering my useless question.Last modified on 2018-10-12 at 04:17

Rance series. Also, maybe both Baldr and Muv-luv.

Honestly I found Tsuyokiss, Tsuyokiss 2gakki and Tsuyokiss 3gakki pretty confusing. Candy Soft revamped the story TWO times, with 2gakki and 3gakki retelling the same story with changes (a lot of story changed, but at the same time some parts remaining the same word for word).
To top that off, 3gakki which is the final version, does not include the prologue from Tsuyokiss and Tsuyokiss 2gakki, and Tsuyokiss 2gakki doesn't have the prologue from first Tsuyokiss.

As a result, you need to play Tsuyokiss' prologue, quit game, play Tsuyokiss 2gakki prologue, quit game, then play Tsuyokiss 3gakki which is apparently the "canon" story as Tsuyokiss NEXT and Festival fork off it.

Therefore, it's both a sequel and alternative story at once. Sequel because you need to play previous ones' prologues, and alternative because, well, it's alternative. But then again there's some stuff you can learn about characters from the previous games.

*Honestly just want to tag it as alternative story (it's tagged as sequel now).Last modified on 2018-10-12 at 04:05

Mamanyonyo. No question.

#2 Baldr isn't all too confusing; most of the convolution comes from the Duel Savior fandiscs.
VNDB doesn't list these in the relations, but Baldr Sky Dive X has guest characters from Majikoi, Muramasa, and Scarlett (which have pretty large trees themselves) and Heart has characters from Shin Koihime and Chisungura. If you counted that, I suppose it would be more convoluted than the Alice Soft relations.

For a while, unofficial relations were all counted in the relation trees, meaning that VNs like Ever17 CrossOver Impression and Danganronpa Team spawned humongous, unwieldy relationship charts.

Now, outside of VN relations, you also have the wonderful world of producer relations. Look at the tree for Visual Art's and admire the sheer insanity.Last modified on 2018-10-12 at 04:19

How Mamanyonyo is confusing? It looks like nothing more than an Alice all star RPG.
Most trees are made confusing because of the "Shares characters" relation. A single fandisc can mess up everything. Once you focus on a series and spot the unnecessarily relations, the mess can be really easy to figure.

Personally, I am confused about the Apathy series. It's been years one of them is rotting in my wishlist, far before Apathy - Midnight Collection ~Vol. 1~ was translated, but even this one couldn't give me enough resolve to tackle the series blind. Everything looks like a remake of everything so I couldn't figure where to start and vndb certainly doesn't help. It's just a matter of reading the wikipedia article but it looks like one of those cases where there is no best choice in the first place so I never found the resolve to enlighten myself.
