So this is another game (referring to the 'Full Chorus' version) where I haven't seen anyone finish it - including the many bonus episodes - in less than 30 hours (steam and other sites). I listened out all voices, playing on auto, and it took me a bit over 40 hours. So even if this may be reverted if there's actually consensus on the shorter range - I'm changing it to 'long' now.

@beliar: I just saw you've been reverting it before. I think the (over 30) bonus episodes are an integral component that is not just something added on like comedic or fanservice scenes but explain and broaden the view the reader gets on all the characters. So I would include them in the reading time for the categorization.Last modified on 2019-03-10 at 13:25

Most people consider this 16-20 hours on EGS. While you can't translate this 1 to 1 to vndb length, it's extremely extremely unlikely to be "long" by vndb standards.

Keep in mind, that in theory 100% is not needed for the length here. Usually it refers to getting all major endings. Some games take a LOT longer to get really everything, for very little gain. (i.e. Kamaitachi no Yoru )
Also keep in mind, that voices are and always will be a bit weird, because some don't care about them at all, while some let every single line play out. You usually meet in the middle, for an average value.

edit: I don't think we even need to think about bonus episodes here. This case seems to not even be borderline. It's a clear <30 hour game. You can still spend 50 on it. But that's just how it is. If you read slow-ish (i.e. reading it as if you read it out loud and voice it), and listen to all the voices all the time, the "average" playtime times 2 is very well possible.Last modified on 2019-03-10 at 13:31

I know that voiced vn usually take me two to 2.5 times the hours a printed novel would take to read for multiple reasons.

On the other hand, that's at least to some extent to be expected from the medium. I do acknowledge that it's hard to come up with a categorization for something with such a big standard deviation between individual readers depending on their reading style.

But I would not regard it as a borderline case either, considering that people tried to change the category before and the recorded play times on steam and howlongtobeat (few as that may be).

Same goes for bonus episodes. In most games that have them, they are either fan service (extreme case: Wagamama High Spec) or short comedic snippets.
With Kindred Spirits it's several hours (almost 10 in my case) worth of content that's not different from the one in the 'couple' scenes in length (5-10') or depth. Just no new CG or events.

But of course I'm ok if it's being reverted again -- I *do* understand the problems and the reasoning behind those decisions.Last modified on 2019-03-10 at 13:49

I just reverted it myself. it's ok, seems to be consensus and I didn't know extra/bonus episodes, however important or long, don't count for the time categorization.

Your policy of making a change and then starting a poll/thread was backwards in the first place. If you know you're making a change that warrants discussion, only do so *after* the discussion.

you're absolutely right, of course. People do stupid things sometimes, this was one of those.
