Should we consider changing Ladder Structure to Bus Stop Structure?
It does work, since the character routes are like bus stops and you stop at each one deciding whether or not you want to get off the bus. For example, in Grisaia no Kajitsu you have Makina, Amane, Sachi, Michiru and finally Yumiko. The first four have a choice to enter their route and making the right one is like getting off the bus at this bus stop, or staying on the common route as staying on the bus until you get to the next stop. If you don't get off on the first four stops you get to the last one, the end of the bus route, Yumiko's route.
I think we should change Ladder to Bus Stop because it's more accurate than getting off the ladder or whatever. Just a suggestion.
Incidentally we could change the description to, for instance-
This Visual Novel has a type of branching system that works like a bus route.
Basically, instead of the hero(ine) paths branching off from the end of the common route/prologue, they split off during it.
The reason it is called a "bus stop structure" is because you can consider choosing the hero(ine) paths along the way to be "getting off the bus" and staying on the common route as staying on the bus until it reaches the last stop on the bus route, which would be whichever path is at the end of the common route, for instance the true ending.
G-Senjou no Maou and Grisaia no Kajitsu are the prime examples of this structure.
Other examples of this type of structure in VNs: Steins;Gate, Aiyoku no Eustia, A Clockwok Leyline, Amatsutsumi, Sen no Hatou, Sweet Pool.

I agree that it's probably a better name but do we really need to change it?

do we really need to change it?No, not only is it pretty pointless but if you really are contemplating that term so much then the conclusion for both is the same but alas one could argue for trains as well or about anything of that sort, besides Elevators.
Ladders however have much more history or are rather part of everyone's life at any time. Who knows, maybe such transport will cease to be someday? Becoming similar to elevators even since after all... "Demand responsive transport" exist already, or also called taxi buses. Now if ya dare to call this reasoning petty, then this suggestion becomes even more petty, by a lot more.
But welp, let's look forward to the day where we got ladders which let one choose the drop off point, without moving, without passing another point, or well, just make Hogwarts stairs that twist and turn for no reason~

I, for one, agree with #1.
The way I see it, Ladder Structure should mean that there are 2 main storylines (the vertical parts of a ladder), with many points along the way (the horizontal parts of a ladder) where you can switch from one storyline to another and back again if you so please.
Bus Stop Structure makes more sense for VNs like G-Senjou & Co.
Also, ladders and staircases are not the same thing. :P

#4 Good thought. But I suppose the thing is that would be confusing since this structure is currently called Ladder Structure. You're right in a sense though.
So, anyone in favour of changing the name? What do the mods think?
