|Perhaps saying it does "well" in terms of writing and storytelling in the Hard Science Fiction and Mystery genre is an understatement.|
Had the pleasure to experience this work last year. Albeit, due to the long time between playing and writing this short review, I will refrain from going in depth.
Story, plot, character motivations, character building, goal, setting, buildup, catharsis, are all woven perfectly into the narrative to create an experience you will only find seldom in this form of media.
Unfortunately, there is a VERY LARGE demerit that would hinder the average visual novel consumers enjoyment of the game. That being, that it feels like the work was made with a total budget of $25.40. What I'm saying, is that there's no voice work, no CG, lack of backgrounds and assets, poor character sprite work, poor art etc. It simply personifies the "Doujin" subcategory for better or worse.
However, budget means nothing to me, whilst narrative experience is everything. So whilst it is something that I was easily able to overlook, your mileage may vary.
The atmosphere when our protagonist steps out of the deep-sea vessel onto the pitch black ocean seabed was done perfectly. Perhaps the lack of assets contributed to this? Who knows. All I can say is that everything played perfectly into each part of the story.
Like everything, it's not without its faults, but I have nothing but praise. It deserves a more in-depth review to be honest.
Up there with the greats. (You know which ones they are)Last modified on 2019-06-07 at 12:54
