Regarding the ending of this game

I am a little bit distraught by the ending. My only question is, why? Why put that ending in this kind of slapstick comedy game? It makes no sense. Its there just for shock value, because there's no way you can justify it in this kind of atmosphere. I am not saying that they cannot "reason" themselves into it ("war is bad", "Revolution can lead to disasters"), but it just feels stupid, especially when the first game establishes a slapstick comedy atmosphere where no one gets hurt and the girls get raped because the MC has been taught some weird things by his father. Now, I believe that the MC is justified in everything he did - yes including the rape because this is a eroge and according to eroge logic this is kind of expected. Ethically its wrong, but no one plays this kind of eroge with a view of normal ethics. He's not a bad guy in any sense. Most of the plot device relies on "I can't tell you anything till the plot advances!", which is fine..until there are actual bad consequences(which are only hinted at). The witches for some reason are shown in a "good" light towards the later half of the game, even though the audience has no reason to think that the witches are good just because they don't kill. They still invaded a country, took out people's livelihoods and brainwashed them to do their bidding. This of course if you normally think of the situation, which you shouldn't, because its an eroge. (note that I am not saying you can't have good writing in an eroge, I am just saying that the ending doesn't fit this particular eroge. In order to make it work, you have to have a much darker eroge from the beginning itself).

Thoughts on this? I hope I was able to express myself coherently.

EDIT: I enjoyed the game and I think the writing was above average for most games like this. Probably that's the reason why I have this objective. If it was bad writing, I wouldn't care much. But because its good, I am much more invested.Last modified on 2019-08-28 at 18:33

It's not all slapstick - it's mention that the person initiating the terrorist attack is executed and no doubt other people die as well (besides Wilfried and Erika).

Wilfried has no problem with treating his army as cannon fodder (and probably would have had no problem throwing Erika and Fine to the wolves if they hadn't agreed to join him) - both of which makes Wilfried pretty repugnant - let alone all the other things he does.

As for the witches, Erika lost her family during the terrorist attack and no doubt requested the mission to try and get some closure on that. I see them as the being "good" because they are on a mission that they obviously believed in, whilst Wilfried is just in it power and glory.

I presume all the witches either suffered at Wilfried's (or demons in general) hand at some point which is motivating factor

It's really a dark comedy/drama rather than pure comedy, so the ending for 3 (whatever it is) would be appropriateLast modified on 2019-08-29 at 23:04
