Not much details can be gained from the screenshots they posted, but my guess is that they're indeed going back to the old Gold engine to backport all the WWX content into it, instead of just gutting the online connectivity of the Unity build and selling it as is. If it's true, then it'd at least make fan translations a lot easier if Tenco isn't thinking about doing official localisations in the near future.

Some things from WWX that should really be implemented:
- decoupling between troop size and damage, with individual limits to maximum troop size. I think it's a major one. It allowed having strong tank units with a low attack like Kilinoe and glass cannons like Vlad.
- dividing Attack stat in Magic and Physical, same with Defense;
- unique equipment for characters.

Obviously it wouldn't be good if they just outright abandon all the advancements WWX brought forth, and depending on how they coded them, backporting the new mechanics into Gold might actually be far easier to do than trying to modify the 100+ new characters from WWX and make them fit under the existing structure Gold has. I do agree that the a lot of the improvements from WWX should be kept for the offline version, although if they are doing that, then I sincerely hope that they will also optimise the progression system so it won't be as grindy as it was in the gacha. By god that was not enjoyable even if you paid money to skip it.|

If they brought the WWX character system, I would implement progression like this:
- reduce lv count from 100 to 5 (with adjusted numbers);
- gain +1 lv after each character event (+ raw stats increase, +skills stats increase, unlock new equipment);
- use gold to increase troop size (HP).
Btw, I looked at screenshots more closely and it's modified Jiazhen, Prestor John, and Ector (swimsuit) skills.
I don't think they will implement several versions of characters, so Ector's base skillset is likely to be replaced by swimsuit's skillset.
The last image suggests they actually try to implement physical/magic damage split.
