That's how old VNDB is right now.

I used to have a tradition to post some general site statistics and graphs around new years, but I stopped annoying you with "happy new year" posts long ago. These yearly "is the site really that old?" posts are just as good an excuse for some graphs, I guess.

- Number of database edits per month.
- Number of newly created database entries per month.

The gist of those graphs is that, at least quantitatively, VNDB is seeing a nice and steady rate of growth. Let's keep that up!

Looks like the perfect thread to ask something I wondered since you dumped more of the db: how many lines the table(s) about everything edit related have? And what is/are its/their size? I always thought such system must be a tremendous waste of space (requiring more space than the actual content) even if we will agree it is critical. VNDB is a relatively small website but when I see that my negligible edits on wikidata already generated a big fat history page, or how myfigurecollection has 876k objects... (I know, storage is generally not the problem nowadays.)Last modified on 2019-09-30 at 09:52

We have about 780k database edits in total and each "edit" is stored as a full copy of the entry. I'm sure it could be stored much more efficiently, but it's hardly a problem. A compressed SQL dump of the full database is currently about 250MB and the uncompressed database with all indices is a bit less than 3GB. That's relatively small for a database.

FYI:
September 30th is also Saint Jerome's (Hieronymus) Feast Day. Saint Jerome is the Patron Saint of Translators (and other professions). Quite fitting imo.Last modified on 2019-09-30 at 17:28

Thanks for not changing too much over those past 10 years I've been here. Evolution, not revolution.
TL groups came and went, vns have become more popular in the West in the wake of the commercialized part of the scene, and Tsukihime remake—just kidding—and vndb is still right here.
Thank you for those years of staying true to the community, yorhel. Don't change, and stay right here. With us.

Happy B-day!Last modified on 2019-10-01 at 21:05
