My Thought on this

< report >So i've been a loyal reader of marmalade since the first Primal Hearts, up until mashimaro. All of 3 titles share the same excellence where the universe is vast and presented with a lot of sprites, not only from the main heroines but also from the side characters as well.

But here we are with study Steady where Marmalade want to try something new and goes to the direction of hibiki works such as cation series, where the story presented in a warm and relaxing way. basically a pure high school story that present the story of MC meets the heroines. Gone is the dynamic interaction and fun atmosphere that always there since the the first primal hearts. Also it needs a solid story theme just like Primal hearts with student council and Mashimaro with their cake store, the absence of solid theme simply makes the story common route feels too bland and need some spice. The story much more focused on relationship with each heroine's.

The e-mote also too much for me, the boobs swing just too unnecessary and exaggerated not too mention some characters feel like they share the same gesture template. if by any chance any Marmalade staff read this, plese you guys are good as it is, trying something new is nice but no need to become hibiki works.Last modified on 2019-10-03 at 14:30

< report >I don't know man. I prefer this game to Mashimaro. It appeals to my moebuta heart. No plot is better than retarded plot imo.

< report >Couldn't agree with you more. This game pretty much only focus on the heroine herself on each route and everyone else just basically disappears. I don't dislike the game but the e-mote and nickname system doesn't flow quite well and is quite crap to be honest. For all the delays this game got, it's quite a disappointment compared to Marmalade's previous works.Last modified on 2019-10-06 at 03:57

< report >They probably changed the style, because having multiple emote characters on the screen at once kills the game. Might have been somewhat worried about performance from the beginning, and it sure turned out to be bad. Most likely worse than even expected, as it also kills the performance with just one character on screen already.

That said, all characters disappearing in a route is a big no-go. That's fine for nukige, but will make it so the characters are flat and can't grow, and as such are utterly forgettable. Characters get defined by their surroundings. If there's no such thing, there's almost nothing left.Last modified on 2019-10-06 at 07:01

< report >I hope they go back to the Primal heart series formula, kinda miss all the relevent side characters with sprites, although understandable since having with more than one character on screen kills performance but they could have done what kimagure temptation did and have side characters just have regular sprites, though the emote in that was just overall better and had better performance to boot.

< report >I missed Cation series so this was a godsend for me for one. I loved Marmalade titles before, but they've started getting a little repetitive (there were some constant story cliches that were the same in two primals and mashumaro).

What I'm missing the most here is Primal Heart's sound/music direction.

< report >It's different, that's all. No need to compare with other works, everyone is free to voice out their intentions and I think the important part is to receive it with open arms.

Surely I miss the system they have been using but it's not enough to lower the good points of this game.

If there is a bad point from this, is the side characters voice acting, they were expressionless, they read those sentences like if they were just learning how to speak. The female voice were somewhat better, but the male voices were too "bou" or unnatural.

Besides, the love letters touch was really nice. I loved it.Last modified on 2019-10-13 at 14:28
