I think some people tend to forget that one thing which is not made by yorhel on this website is the actual content, the very same thing everyone comes here for. I'm pretty sure that 95% of all data here is contributed by only a couple hundreds of users. And while paying for hosting and continued development is important, one should still be considerate not to alienate all those people spending their time working on the db for free for the benefits of all. I personally don't have any problems with the current system, but some may, and such opinions should not be dismissed outright.

I would also gladly like to know how many of those other guys have ever hosted something for free.
Actually I didn't subscribed Patreon because why should I pay if I get something for free, and I guess Yorhel is well aware many people will undergo that route too (also there is nothing wrong in doing so). But actually I think I just changed my mind and go show some respect to the guy that built all of this.Last modified on 2019-12-20 at 00:52

|< report >Hey yorhel,|
one additional "patreon benefit" idea/question: Would there be any way to get some additional resources regarding the vndb API, i.e. getting more "usage tokens"? I've been maintaining an archive for the /r/visualnovels subreddit and have some future ideas that might lead to short peaks in requests that would have users actively waiting on them (not sure if that will be the case, but still). I was wondering if some financial way to boost that could be something for you to consider. Would also be helpful for me in general when updating my internal database with additional information, I'm always feeling bad running through all VNs in my database to fetch new stuff through your API.
In any case, thanks a lot for this site!

I was wondering if some financial way to boost that could be something for you to consider. For non-commercial projects: Nah, building useful functionality around VNDB data is something that we should be supporting, not taxing. The API is not very heavy on the server, so I can easily increase limits if you're hitting any. There's also d14#5 if you want bulk data without adding load to the server (...and don't mind the possibility of your code breaking when I change something to the DB schema).

|< report >Okay got it, thanks! I'll definitely consider just importing the database if I need more general data that doesn't need to be updated too often. I admit so far I was just too lazy to do a second implementation to fetch data :o.|
