< report >I am looking for the longest visual novel ever made. The visual novel with the highest number of words and characters. Note: by characters I mean characters in the sentence including space not the story characters and protagonist

Longer answer: words + space aren't really a thing in Japanese so you won't find an answer there, but looking at script size (in MB) you'll be able to get a satisfactory answer for number of characters... in Japanese, from which you'll just have to correlate that with words in English.Last modified on 2019-10-22 at 03:58

< report >Since there is little reason to not consider them VN-SLG hybrids, especially due to the following facts, one will find Custom Maid 3D 2 to and the Order version on the first two places even when considering duplicate lines being removed and disregarding a third of it because they are voiced-only "monologues" during the gameplay (actually subtitled in COM3D2).

Even before Custom Order Maid 3D 2 was released, the normal version dwarfs anything on the following list: link.

Sadly with HF dead&deleted, so is the (supposedly flawed for it extracted apparently only named lines) text extraction tool but at least vndb has my posts with all the data&method. To keep it short:

51,7MB with Copypasta
19,5MB (19,9 MiB) without. Date recorded: 17.06.2017

way more than 8,5 M(i)B, like 50% more even if 33% are taken away for no reason~

< report >With this kind of stuff, you can't really count serialized stuff, or works that aren't a first major release. It's just weird. Like Higurashi, the newest version, is obviously super long, as all of the stories were written over many many years, a few more for every release. At this point it probably fairly easily passes the 10mb mark as well, given how there are over 20 arcs (?) by now.

Rance 10 might be it, if the data is correct and doesn't include copy and paste.

< report >@3 IDK, I've played COM3D2 with maid fiddler (opened everything possible) and I can't see how there could be so much text in there as most scenes are rather short. Sure, there hundreds of them, but still. Also, unlike France Shoujo and Rance 10 I assume that most of the text there is h-scenes.

< report >Mind you COM3D2 has 14 personalities and each of them has dozens of events plus dozens of scenes with the daily work (often times 3) along with several hundred yotogi situations/commands. Then there is also GP 1+2 and side characters, the story and the relationship events. Event Scenes are by no means short and it's those daily work split into 3 which add up to 1 one normal. Just like the choices to pre-yotogi questions of which there are plenty per character.

Even when deducting pr0n (which you'd have to do to Rance and France as well, it's not like they don't have many scenes that add to several tens of thousands words), there is still a lot left and COM3D2 actually appears to lack the many VIP events which CM3D2 collected over the years.

Again I only counted for CM3D2 in June 2017, I do not know about the Order version and what can be imported but the data for CM3D2 is true, after all, I indeed removed duplicate lines and scrolling did not show me any odd "implements"
Just for fun
Perry Rhodan, 12 times as long

Seriously, there are objective and there are subjective exclusion/deduction criteria.
Objective: Copy Paste, Authors writing independently (i.e Anthology, not the same as several authors writing under supervision/which are lead by someone)
Subjective: pr0n, prize
Silly: "It's just weird"

Also I'd indeed like to ask if an arc of Higurashi would fit into like 3 LN volumes (which are around 250.000 words and 500 kebibytes... or I'll take just this as source link and say, nah, it's half if not less. Worth noting is also the connection between Higurashi and Umineko since it should not be too loose. Otherwise we have e.g to consider Eushully which has many works play in the same universe and characters as cameo.
