< report >Another death of the old guard. A 20 year run is very long lived by VN company standards. The lost of SofthouseChara hits even harder since they were one of the few VN companies left which still made VN's with gameplay. Aside from Astronauts: Sirius, Alicesoft, Ninetail and Eushully there really aren't that many companies left which want to make gameplay focused VNs. Place your bets on which on will be the next go.Last modified on 2020-03-23 at 12:11

< report >Astronauts: Sirius, Ninetail,. Eushully and Alicesoft in that order.

I like Astronauts games, but they don't pander to the overseas market and their core audience isn't exactly growing either. Sirius is sustained by M&M's art, Comet has a decent thing going with their current low-price range but it's not sustainable in the long run.

Ninetail have been around for a decade, but if the Venus Blood series goes out of fashion they'll go down fast. Their latest offering this month is not part of that franchise, so if they go for something different and it bombs badly their chances of survival become slimmer.

Both Eushully and Alicesoft have been around for ages, the latter the most long-lived of all the gameplay-focused 18+ developers. Between the two, Eushully would be more likely to topple (however unlikely it is at the moment) since they've made duds before and it took a big recent hit to salvage their reputation. Alicesoft have had ups and downs, but the Rance series has taken off outside Japan and their core market still looks forward to their annual offerings so they have history and experience on their side. If they go, then it'll be a very different industry indeed which picks up the pieces.Last modified on 2020-03-24 at 10:59

< report >I hope harleyquin that you are mistaken about Ninetail, hopefully they will reach good sales with Venus Blood series in the world with translated titles. Yes I know that you are right that if Venus Blood series goes out of fashion they'll go down fast and probably it will happen since we are not talking about a big franchise.
Anyway I hope time will not prove you are right.Last modified on 2020-03-23 at 17:11

< report >@4 @5 Actually, from what I've heard the reason the fan translator stopped working on Bunny Black 3 was something to do with the text engine. Apparently the fan translator who worked on Bunny Black 1 & 2 had fully intended to do 3 as well but the game's engine caused the text to have a spacing issue when displaying English letters. The text would have massive spacing between individual letters when displaying English words and he couldn't find anyone who could patch around the issue. So he gave up on it. From what I know Sekai Project has no interest in localising the Bunny Black titles.Last modified on 2020-03-23 at 20:54

< report >There's a Chinese interface patch for Bunny Black 3, so it's not impossible to translate unofficially. The spacing issue is real, there's not much room to work with and languages based on Roman lettering struggles with the constraints.

That said, I don't care since I've played and beaten the Bunny Black series and its spinoff.Last modified on 2020-03-24 at 10:58
