< report >Beliar think Amaenbo is a vn, but Sanmai no Ofuda not. Then he deleted it.

I think Sanmai no Ofuda is like Evenicle.
The three of them are rpg galgames.

DLsite: Sanmai no Ofuda
Youtube : Sanmai no Ofuda and Amaenbo and Evenicle

I can't understand what's the difference between them. Please tell me, thanks!Last modified on 2020-08-06 at 16:11

< report >Just for easy starters, without knowing anything at all about these games, look at the youtube videos you posted. Run your mouse along the bottom preview bar so that you can quickly see all the images in the video.

How much of the video for each game has a dialog box at the bottom with a lot of text?

edit: oh, if you mixed up the links that would explain the confusion, like I said i don't know anything about the games so i was just glancing at them and didn't read the titles.Last modified on 2020-08-06 at 18:41

< report >There a a few criteria that need to be followed when the visual novel has gameplay. They can be contracted into these main principles:
1. The game should have narration as the storytelling mechanism. Narration is what separates visual novels with RPG elements from JRPGs, because no matter how chatty or story extensive an RPG is, they don't, as a rule of thumb, have narration.
2. The reading to gameplay ratio should be in favour of reading, instead of gameplay.
3. The game with long story segments followed by long gameplay segments is more likely to be accepted as a VN than a game with short story segments followed by short gameplay segments. In other words, reading shouldn't be interrupted too frequently by gameplay.
4. Finally, you can make an educated guess if the game belongs here by an unofficial rule of thumb: Are you reading a book that is interrupted by gameplay, or are you playing a game that is interrupted by reading?

Now by looking at the Youtube link for Sanmai no Ofuda (you actually mixed the links and the link you have labeled as Amaenbo is for Sanmai no Ofuda) you have provided, I don't think that the game belongs here. It's an adventure game with no narration that I can see, and after a lengthy introduction, the gameplay elements become quite frequent. On the other hand, that Evenicle link is not objectionable, as there are like one minute of gameplay in that 50 min video.

Now, I don't think that I have checked Amaenbo before, so it's incorrect to state that I think it's a VN. I have just checked the YT playlist (link) and while the game started pretty strongly with lots of dialogues and some free-roam/sandbox elements, the further the game went, the more and more gameplay there apparently is. I will need to investigate further, but it might not qualify as a VN.
