< report >We barely even know anything about this, but that's a pretty hype staff lineup. Scenario by Marutani, art by Ueda, and even a theme song from Denkare. I can imagine it's going to be pretty dark.Last modified on 2020-10-02 at 17:06

< report >Who the fuck wants Metawo to draw mahou shoujo???

This game is featured on the same article you were talking about in the Clock-up thread lol.

Apparently, humanity is at war and the mahou shoujo are "consumed" as their weapons, whatever that means.Last modified on 2020-10-19 at 22:02

I thought the same. Maybe not his company but it is confirmed to be a brand centered on him.

< report >I presume it's highly likely there won't be any more Black Cyc games (hell, I'm not even sure there will be any more in general) with Ueda involved. Hopefully there will be a metalogiq game by Izumi at some point tho.Last modified on 2020-10-19 at 22:10

< report >You know, Black Cyc can work without Metawo. Half their new games don't involve either Metawo or Izumi Ban'ya. Metawo could be easily replaced by Shiizaki Hinaki.
Let's see if the game flops or not before making plans.

How I parsed your sentence:
>there won't be any more Black Cyc games [sad]
>(hell, I'm not even sure there will be any more in general) [anymore Ranba Amuse games in general]
>with Ueda involved [with his new brand]

The domain is registered to Ranba Amuse. Guess they're shedding the Cyc branding since it carries too much history.

Metawo is much more valuable as a director/producer than an artist (not to say he's a bad artist, much to the contrary - but he's great as a director). Note he directed most of the good Black Cyc games, including those he didn't draw for. I'm going to reserve my judgement of this game until the director is announced, since Marutani Hideto strikes me as the last person to willingly write a dark game so I can only assume someone else is holding the reins creatively. I mean, I'm 99% sure it's going to be Metawo anyway but you'd think he was credited upfront if that was the case, so what's up with that?Last modified on 2020-10-20 at 00:36

< report >I hope he is the director. The last game where he had any non-art roles was Sengoku Himeuta ~Jika no Chigiri~, which he did planning on in addition to art. (It's an otome game, although it's a pretty dark one, and written by Kusaka who he also worked with on GSS.) From Witchcraft which he's done a bunch of non-adult work for. The character on Endou Shoujirou's site is drawn by him too. I think it's from The Saiban'in ~Hitotsu no Shinjitsu, Muttsu no Kotae~ which he also worked on.

Also Marutani did work on some dark games in the distant past, like Seek 2 and PILcaSEX.Last modified on 2020-10-20 at 01:23

And it was pretty shitty. Planning is not a role that really matters anyway. He was later very involved with the first new Black Cyc.

Ranba always had some pretty hectic release planning anyway. You never know when the next game will come when they are not too busy fixing their whole line-up to make it compatible with the latest OS. I am sure they do it on purpose, though.

Marutani Hideto you even wonder if he remembers how to write a darkge. The last one was from 2009. If the game is bad you will know why real quick.

< report >Those Mio games are all outsourced anyway lol.

Edit:

I'm not sure if this is really the best place to put this but I really wanted to share this.

I've been sitting on this info for a while, but I believe I've found Ueda's real identity. It's already known that Cyc Co., Ltd. was started by former SystemSoft/SystemSoft Alpha staff. Well Cyc developed a game called Gaika no Gouhou Airlandforce for Koei on PC and PS2. link On this game there's a credit for scene design and it's credited to someone named "Ueda Motoki". That name seems pretty suspicious doesn't it? Same initials and even same last name. But that wouldn't be enough to prove anything. Well there's still more. On a number of SystemSoft games dating back to 1996, this same name appears, usually credited for CG/graphics, except on White Diamond where it's for cooperation.

So we also know that Ueda has been credited on a few Witchcraft games including The Saiban'in ~Hitotsu no Shinjitsu, Muttsu no Kotae~, Sengoku Himeuta ~Jika no Chigiri~, and Idol Death Game TV. He's credited as "Ueda Metawo" on those games. Well anyways, Witchcraft made Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's Portable: The Battle of Aces. link And under event scripting the name "Ueda Motoki" appears again.

With all this information I strongly believe Ueda Motoki is his real name, and that he originally worked as a CG artist on SystemSoft games, starting in 1996. Also I have a feeling that his relationship with Endou Shoujirou goes back earlier than The Saiban'in, but I don't really have info about that. (Maybe Endou played Black Cyc games and liked his work?) I do also find it interesting that he used an alias on three Witchcraft games but used his real name on another.Last modified on 2020-10-20 at 02:40

This one basically tells who was in charge of the creative process. Writers like to bring up games where they did the 企画 themselves because those are usually their own stories from the beginning.

< report >I thought planners had to execute ideas who were given to them (by 原案) into a concrete plan the whole staff had to respect for the production to happen smoothly. Like planning time, costs and tasks. How is it related to the creative process? It looks more like pure logistics to me.
Edit: I feel like I am dead wrong and I saw an anime/manga about someone having to create a plan and it was basically a proposal from scratch but I can't remember.Last modified on 2020-10-20 at 05:24

I won't do it myself, but someone who's confident can translate the story for the description.

Seems to be a mix of sci-fi with Mahou Shoujo. And it's got the required Russian, German, and Chinese girls.Last modified on 2020-10-21 at 15:48

今回の魔法少女消耗戦線(なげえ)、かの名作「メイド・イン・ヘブン」が大好きだった私から丸谷さんにお願いして一緒にやっていただけることになったんですが、なぜか全然違う方向の作品になってしまいました。変ですね…

< report >I don't think so? I think he's just being self-deprecating because how far apart the starting point (Maid in Heaven) is from the final product (magical girls fighting aliens).
