< report >Gothic is one of the most beloved game series in every eastern block country - link. It's up there right next to Heroes of Might and Magic in terms of popularity with 90s kids. I'm glad it's not forgotten in its birth country either.

< report >I'm playing Gothic 1, 2, Risen 1 and Elex at least once a year, mostly around Christmas/New Year's. They're such amazing games and I even have G2 Gold three times after only owning G2 Classic as a child because my dad owned it and played it once. It's crazy how much modding the eastern block does for G2 in particular.

What's your stance on G1's potential remake?Last modified on 2020-10-15 at 15:11

< report >I saw the remake and it is completely devoid of the soul of the original. In fact I'm replaying the original right now for the 5th (?) time since 2005 and nothing they make can ever compare to it.Last modified on 2020-10-15 at 01:42

< report >Eyy fellow Gothic fans. I love G2 too, but have you played G3? I ended up going through it multiple times, gotta love the game world (especially those frozen mountains!)

< report >Obviously I played 3 when it came out, and then again when it received 5 dozen patches for gamebreaking bugs, but it is simply on a completely different level than 1 and 2. Lazy copypaste world full of meaningless quests heavily constrained into their city, with factions equally unimportant, and a horrible melee combat system.
Gothic 2 is my favorite RPG of all time, which is why I cried tears of blood when I played Gothic 3. Look how they massacred my boy.

< report >Gotta share kew's opinion on Gothic 3, it just doesn't do it for me. I've watched Let's Plays and some of my friends playing it when it came with one of those magazine discs but that's about it. I know enough about the story to connect G3 to Risen 1.

< report >I love G1 and G2, and revisit them from time to time, but have completed G3 only once, and didn't feel like replaying it. It's too "open" and too big for me, I'm getting lost all the time, especially in Nordmar.

OTOH first Risen was nice, had more of that G1/G2 feel.

I saw the remake, and it feels like completely different game, doesn't do anything for me.

< report >@7 getting lost in Nordmar is part of the fun. I really loved that experience. Stranded in snowy mountains... It's like The Long Dark, another game I love and have 300 hours in, but without the survival elements (other than having to fight).

Incidentally, I played through G1 too but it felt a bit too dated for me.
