Urgent Need of Programmers!

It's good to see how VNDB has grown very well lately, but it's also getting pretty obvious that I can't take care of the large codebase on my own anymore. Add to that that I've been awfully busy lately and some of my other projects also desperately need a bit attention again.

To get right to the point: We need more programmers!
Requirements:
- A few years experience with programming in general. Preferably having worked on larger projects and/or with several programming paradigms.
- Either some experience with Perl, or really interested in learning Perl.
- Some experience with handling large and complex databases would be nice, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Familiar with unix-style systems and commandline utilities.
- Experience with XHTML, CSS and Javascript would be nice as well, but anyone who passes the first required wouldn't have any trouble learning this.

Interested? Download the full source code of the site and try to set up your own vndb to play around with. This will be a bit tedious work at first, but once you have it running I can guarantee you'll enjoy it. You can get help on this board and on #vndb @ irc.synirc.net. I can't guarantee to be able to reply very fast, though...

I haven't enjoyed ImageMagick...

Blame that horribly outdated debian system, not me.

"Your mission, Jim, should you decide to accept it, is to retrieve and branch a working copy from the git repository. As usual, should you or any member of your I.M. Force be captured or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your existence. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Jim."

Small note for anyone who has a checkout of the repository: I've moved repo to another server, and with that the clone URL has changed to git://g.blicky.net/vndb.git. The old url of the web interface will still work.

Edit: I can also provide git hosting for other projects/repositories, for anyone interested.Last modified on 2009-04-27 at 14:01
