< report >I do not think that the relations "sequel" and "prequel" should be mutually exclusive from "fandisk". a visual novel can be a fandisk, but it can also be either a prequel or a sequel that builds on the original story. is the concept of a sequel really something that can't apply to a fandisk?

for example, i would sooner describe Fate/Hollow Ataraxia as a sequel to Fate/Stay Night despite being a fandisk release. regardless of it being a fandisk, if it's a sequel, it's a sequel. and from reading it, i can definitely say that's what it is.

So why can't it, and other similar VNs, be listed as BOTH a prequel/sequel AND a fandisk? these two things are not mutually exclusive at all. If it's a direct continuation of, or directly relating to either in themes, plot, characters, etc in a way that's advancing those things and/or adding to them, wouldn't that be a type of sequel?

what a fandisk is is basically an expansion pack. but the scenario of an expansion pack (fandisc) can be a direct sequel to the original scenario of the first game/visual novelLast modified on 2021-01-14 at 08:02

< report >This thread reminds me of Final Fantasy X-2. Kind of a fandisk, kind of a sequel. But of course, people who play games usually don't know what a fandisk is, so they just get confused and angry.

FHA I think is actually a fandisk for the most part. And for simplicity sake I would pick just one

< report >True. Hapymaher FD is a sequel and fandisc (FD... ) as well. In the end it doesn't really matter though. Most FD sequels aren't actually important. The Hapymaher one is a good example. The very end of the game is pretty much the same as in the original game, and the entire fandisc could be ignored should a real sequel ever come to be.

FF x-2 is a good example there as well. Yeah, it's a sequel of sorts in that it plays after ff x. But it's first and foremost a fandisc that's not very important. It's not on the same level as FF x. The Fate one is the same. It's not on the same level.

A real sequel should stand on the same level. For example how the leyline trilogy works.

So this is fine. I mean really, pretty much every fandisc out there is also a sequel. When are those heroine after stories supposed to play? Still first and foremost fandiscs.Last modified on 2021-01-15 at 13:18
