Offer one suggestion to the OP - Sorcery Joker's Mutsumi Haruto

< report >#4 Idk, but the one I got annoyed by the most was the protagonist of DameKoi, even though it is one of my favorite VNs. If I had a penny for every time he apologized for anything, I would be snorting coke in my mansion with top quality escorts. He is the ultimate spineless protagonist.Last modified on 2021-05-09 at 06:34

< report >I respect your opinion.
Yet, you might want to consider the protag in My Fair Princess as really annoying! Believe me, he is much worse than Sugar*Style's!Last modified on 2021-05-09 at 10:33

< report >You should play something like Kami no Rhapsody, Heart de Roomate or Princess Waltz.

Kazuki actually is a cut above the rest since he is extremely *self-aware*. One of the rarest VN-Protag traits to ever exist, mind you.

< report >Well it is mirroring the pathetic paradox that is japanese culture. People are raised both in home and at school to be sorry for existing basically.

< report >It's definitely true that there are way WAY worse protags. Sure, he runs his mouth a bit, and is hurting for a little tact - but he's not nearly so annoying as a couple dozen other protags that come to mind. You're taking it too seriously if he really annoys you, seems like. Just wait, lol... There are some who make you want to punch your monitor, seriously.

He's just a smartass with a loose tongue. You wouldn't want to trust him with any secrets lol.. but he's definitely pretty self-aware as mastag said - he's pretty relaxed, and just doesn't worry about things that much. He definitely is not a bad protag, by any stretch - just imfao.Last modified on 2021-05-11 at 12:16

< report >Does anyone know of an English VN with a cool protagonist that is actually nice to girls and doesn't treat them like objects? It's unsettling when they start talking about "conquering" women, like they're some foreign nation. Women are not objects to be used and owned, they are to be respected and loved.

To be honest, you feel like someone who's somewhat of a (Toxic) F to me (or maybe a Troll is more likely); you won't ask this kind of question if you aren't and had read a decent amount of VNs. And if you are really asking out of ignorance, you should had said so instead of implying most MCs in VNs are like that

Anyway, here's a very nice Visual Novel Protagonist who is handsome, has a great voice (yes, a voiced protag), and who's nice to girls. Ticks all your boxes, so enjoyLast modified on 2021-05-16 at 22:35

< report >#13 I think Aoi from If My Heart Had Wings is a pretty good example of one who treats the heroines with respect. He's more or less a regular guy, but he has defined traits, interests, and hobbies, and actually listens to the heroines and does thoughtful things instead of them fawning over him because he's a generic "nice guy."

< report >#16 Sounds like a good VN, although too bad that apparently it's untranslated. I suppose I should try to translate the VN later.

PS - The OP should read this, seeing that even I know that it'll really fulfill what you want really well even though it's untranslated (You can really tell that the MC will fulfill what the OP want a lot just from the voice alone).Last modified on 2021-05-17 at 03:01

< report >I guess Naoe Yamato from the Majikoi series sort of fits the bill.... until you get to the sexual parts of the games at least. Mutsura Yuuto from Dracu-Riot also kind of works, I guess?

It really depends on what you think constitutes "cool". If you want a VN where the protagonist is a sort of perfect superman Gary Stu who is also a perfect gentleman to all the girls, then I'm drawing a blank.

I can think of more examples but most are from untranslated VNs.Last modified on 2021-05-17 at 10:19

< report >It's interesting how people just look at the steriotype instead of the whole thing. A protagonist acting like Kazuki or the protag from DameKoi could be really annoying to me if there was no character development and no explanation as to why they act like that.
I can enjoy protagonists like that if I can understand and empathize with them. In both cases the visual novels explain their past and show why they are the way they are. It's not a bad thing at all, I would prefer to have them like that then a generic "alpha male" with no depth.

People can try this: Empathize with the protagonist but don't try to project your own personality. True empathy has nothing to do with you putting yourself in their shoes, it has to do with trying to understand how someone with their experiences would act.
If the protagonist from DameKoi was not dealing with heavy depression and other issues from his past the whole story wouldn't work at all, so it's not possible to like the visual novel "despite" the protagonist because the way he is makes the visual novel. Same goes for Sugar*Style but in to a lesser extent.

< report >#23 naturally they can change the protagonist, but they'd have to rewrite the story accordingly.

< report >#13 You should check out the Rance series. The protagonist is a class act who treats the ladies with respect.
