< report >Is it just me or are there more and more Fan-TLs lately since vndb opened up to MTL-Releases? We could need a squad that plays those new releases and marks them accordingly. In my particular case, I would like to know ahead of time whether I'm wasting my day reporting about an MTL on our site.Last modified on 2021-06-10 at 21:28

< report >#50 I played the VNs with those patches and i'm sure those two releases should be marked as MTL. Whoever made those patches or how was handled the releases has little bearing if the final product is like this. We can discuss in other place about who worked in what patch or what happened to them if you want, but not in this thread.

#51 I understand you, if this situation gets worse in the future, I'm not going to bother reporting a MTL anymore.Last modified on 2021-06-11 at 03:35

< report >May not be the best thread to ask this question, but is there a search filter for MTL yet? By default it seems to be excluded from relevant search results, i.e. if you filter for only english games and the only english release is MTL, it won't show up in the search results.

It's definitely MTL judging by examples from here link (see comments section). It will be obvious for any Russian-speaking reader - there are lots of lines which do not make any sense.Last modified on 2021-06-24 at 21:24

It's definitely MTL
Actually, is it really an MTL? I have an argument against this.

Translator seems to be Grobodel (actually, it even may be him). He seems to live in Japan and also know Japanese (see his posts (warning: Russian only!)). And, judging by his posts, he is native Russian or at least know Russian at native level, yet he has some problems with the language.

So maybe it's really just a bad translation?Last modified on 2021-06-24 at 21:48

< report >Hello guys, I am the same Grobodel you are discussing. Russian is my native language since I was born in Russia. And I moved to Japan in 2011.
All my translations do not have machine translation as I graduated from Japanese language school and do commercial translations for my clients. If you have doubts about this, you can give my texts in Russian to any experienced linguist for examination.
My official page on social networks link
My page, where I published my translation into Russian of the demo version of the game Kyonyuu Fantasy 3 if. There are also links to my YouTube channel. (Over the years, one of the comments on the page or YouTube has not been accused of using machine translation) link
On the anivisual site itself, you can read dozens of my articles with reviews of games that I went through in Japanese. usagi please tell me why I need to use machine translation when I myself live in Japan and do translations from Japanese on a commercial basis, as all my clients who have made orders with me know about.Last modified on 2021-06-25 at 03:32

< report >For comparison, an example from the game prologue.

Original Japanese text

「げ」
「ラ・セーヌ、閉まってやんの。しけてんな~」
「……」
「しゃあねえ。最近再上陸したとかいうバーガークイーンでも寄って帰るか」
「ん?」
「あんなとこに風俗の店なんかできてやんの。あそこ、風俗店の裏口かな」
「あれ?」
「今のハーフの子、店から出てきたよ」
「風俗嬢かな」
「あの店で働いてるのかな」

This is what machine translation looks like

"Ге"
"Ла Сена, это закрыто.
"..."
«Эй. Ты хочешь пойти домой с королевой бургеров, которая недавно снова приземлилась?»
"Хм?"
«Я не думаю, что там есть секс-шоп. Это черный ход в секс-шоп?»
"что?"
«Нынешний полудитянин вышел из магазина».
Это леди нравов и нравов? "
"Интересно, работаю ли я в этом магазине"

And this is how my meaningful translation from Japanese looks like

Last modified on 2021-06-25 at 03:18

< report >>>Разве нельзя просто быть готовым в наихудшей встрече?
>>Поскольку, это два ценных студенческих года летом, даже не знаю причину этой подработки и домашнего репетитора чтобы окончательно загубить их.
>>Определённо, сейчас у знаменитостей это признанно самый горячий стиль.

That's examples from screenshots on usagi's link. Are you claiming that it's not MTL? I don't know what is original text, but it's anything but normal Russian. I just can't believe that anyone claiming to be native Russian speaker can write them.

Actually, there are at least 3 errors in your "meaningful translation" in #60, so I also can't believe that you do commercial translations from Japanese.Last modified on 2021-06-25 at 04:15

< report >desann you accuse me of my translation style, or that I use machine translation?
If this is the first option, how do you explain the fact that since 2012 there have been no complaints about my translation style?
If you accuse me of machine translation, first translate the original text through a machine translator and compare them with my original translation.
As I understand it, you are the very hater who, during the last 24 hours, accuses me on all possible sites? Since the publication of the game on the page link, all reviews on the game and its translation have been extremely positive, as anyone can see if they read the comments on the page. The unsubstantiated accusations of machine translation have only begun in the last 24 hours, and I perceive this as a malicious hate attack from my ill-wishers.Last modified on 2021-06-25 at 04:33

Even thou I'm Russian, I don't understand what it means. It's either a machine translation, or an unedited word by word translation. This reminds me of the English translation of some routes of IMHHW link link
The translation quality is about the same.Last modified on 2021-06-25 at 05:02

< report >trickzzter maybe you are not russian? Why, since 2012, all the Russians who played with my translation did not say that they did not understand my translation? I understand my translation, thousands of players who downloaded this game earlier, understand it, and only in the last 24 hours of the hour several haters have appeared who declare that they do not understand my translation, and are trying to recognize it as machine translation, but cannot explain what exactly they are in doesn’t suit him.

I suggest the administration to conduct an independent linguistic examination of my translation, if there is any doubt that I did not translate the game myself, but with the help of machine translation.Last modified on 2021-06-25 at 05:20

< report >Lol, I'm not a hater, just a passer by. If you don't trust me, ask any other Russian speaker, and they will tell you that this sentence is a gibberish:
>>Поскольку, это два ценных студенческих года летом, даже не знаю причину этой подработки и домашнего репетитора чтобы окончательно загубить их.

I'm not sure that it's a pure MTL, probably just a bad translation with strangely placed commas.

You need a editor, someone who will tell you that translation looks strange. I'm an ex-translator myself, I have translated Final Fantasy 6 to Russian, and I had a editor. So I know that I'm talking about.
Don't be salty, just acknowledge that you did wrong, and improve yourself. Peace.

< report >trickzzter, I don’t deny that I didn’t have an editor to 100% place commas in the text. I did this translation on my own, while studying at a Japanese language school, and every day for several hours I searched in dozens of Japanese sites and dictionaries for the meaning of this or that term or expressions. It took me about six months of work, and only after that I released the first version of the game to get feedback on the translation.
Since I had no previous comments on the translation itself, I independently checked the entire text and corrected the errors found. In general, I would not refuse the help of the editor if I received complaints about the quality of the translation, and there were volunteers who would agree to help with this.

I accept criticism about insufficient editing in translation, but I will not allow anyone to blame me for machine translation without evidence, considering how much effort and personal time I spent to write this translation.Last modified on 2021-06-25 at 06:20

Machine TL or not, I'm fairly sure the one who wrote this text does not (or did not back then) know Japanese at all.

They take しゃあねえ to mean "Goodbye" instead of something like "Fuck it".
再上陸 nonsensically turns into "an excursion" when it obviously means "Burger Queen" chain making a comeback to the Japanese market.
They consider 寄って帰る to mean going back to the burger place, instead of stopping by there before going home.
あんなとこに風俗の店なんかできてやんの transforms into "A sex shop will help to take the sting out of my disappointment", when it should be more or less "Don't recall ever seeing a brothel here before". It could work as a translation in theory, I guess, but is obviously wrong in the context.

Not necessarily a machine TL, though, since no machine would ever translate 裏口 as "exit door", I think, but what do I know?

< report >botja let's figure it out if you consider yourself an expert in Japanese)
1) し ゃ あ ね え = this is an abbreviated form of Shikata ga nai (仕 方 が な い), pronounced [ɕi̥kata ɡa naꜜi], is a Japanese language phrase meaning "it cannot be helped" or "nothing can be done about it". Shō ga nai (し ょ う が な い), pronounced [ɕoː ɡa naꜜi] is an alternative.
2) 再 上 陸 = Returning to the previous establishment, which was the main one, before moving to La Seine.
This expression refers not only to establishments, but also to goods from different manufacturers, when a client always buys goods of one brand, then switches to another brand, and then, for various reasons, buys goods of the first brand again.
3) あ ん な と こ に 風俗 の 文 な ん か で き て や ん の = if translated literally, it will sound like that, but I slightly changed the text in combination with the following phrase so that it sounds more familiar in Russian.
4) 裏 口 = In the Russian language there is a group of private and general synonyms. In this case, I used a сommon synonym, the meaning of which depends on the context of the sentence.
Common synonym
Выходная дверь = Main Entrance, Front Entrance, Seed Entrance, Back Entrance
Private synonym
Парадная дверь = outside door
Задняя дверь = back entrance

< report >This is an MTL link
The translation comes from the mtl hive F95, and the "translator" says so himself in the tl notes link
Manual Translation in F95 speak means edited mtl, they are using that to avoid the mtl stigma and justify it by claiming they manually edited all the mtl lines. But if that is not enough evidence, the fact that he claims to have finished it in 8 days and "some lines might not make sense" should be proof enough.Last modified on 2021-07-02 at 08:14

< report >Page 6, trying to find a JVN they properly translated. Still searching. I see one of them has so little shame he has a patreon dedicated to his garbage. He is even lying, trying to make us believe he relies on MTL "to read most of the kanjis and dictionaries for words outside of his vocabulary" but still manage to release a VN every month now. SMH

< report >>He is even lying, trying to make us believe he relies on MTL "to read most of the kanjis and dictionaries for words outside of his vocabulary"

Why would you even use MTL for this when it is pretty easy to set up a hooker to forward the text into some dict checking software. I call bullshit.

I did say that, I translated the Whole vn in 8 days and Edited Again from Start to finish in 10 days so in total 18 days + maybe more. This is an Edited Machine translation. Thank you :)
