< report >So they've been sharing more sample CGs. We now have one for everyone except our main heroine and... I keep getting the impression that this game is going to let me down big-time with Shiina. Like, that sample CG shows nothing. Curse you Manpukutei Hakumai and your extremely open preference towards big boobs! Are you truly so reluctant to have the one arguably-loli heroine in the game go topless for a second?!

< report >^ have you heard the samples of the drama CD's though?

< report >I have indeed. Main thing to note for me is just that I think I'm more okay with Hiyori's replacement voice now. As I mentioned before, she, Shiina and Chiyoko didn't really sound right to me from their initial voice samples. (Though out of the three I guess hers was the one that felt the least off.

< report >For me.... i guess... I could slightly say that i somewhat could settle now with Kusuhara Yui's doing the Nino voice after hearing those drama CD samples.

Although quite frankly. I was kinda expecting Haruka Sora to do the VA work at first based on her other works that has the same timbre.(?) oh well... it works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As for Hiyori though... hmmm.... i still can't quite wrap my head around "Shirayuki Midori's voice" and "Shirakawa Hiyori" as one because of her works that i was exposed of.

Yeah... they are WAY TOO OFF. but again if its part of the quirks of the 4PH heroines... then i will be fine with it as long as it doesn't hurts the story as whole.Last modified on 2021-07-22 at 18:36

< report >Nino I was always more-or-less okay with. I put her in the same category as Arisu, that being "I can tell it's not quite the same but it still works."

< report >So, the game is out. And while I can't say much about it because I've only skimmed it, it sure does seem like we have...
-No new CGs outside of the H-scenes
-No new music outside of the H-scenes
-No expansions on the two routes that were ridiculously short in the base game
-H-scenes only happening after the epilogue.

...This... does feel very much like they did the absolute bare minimum and nothing else. Maybe there are some differences in how individual scenes are written but from what I spot-checked it seemed exactly the same. Oh, and the third opening is still a slideshow that looks to have been encoded at a lower resolution and framerate than the other two. I did admittedly kinda start to suspect that this would be the case when they proudly announced that the game had gone gold and yet they still hadn't advertised anything new outside of the H-scenes... But I'm still rather irked that it seems like every single issue I had with the base game is still there. Though, on the bright (?) side... at least this means my Switch copy of the game is not rendered obsolete?

< report >"H-scenes only happening after the epilogue"

sad fact for me because i don't like h-scene after epilogue too much

< report >Yeah... as a whole its just too awful. IDK if its just me or i am reading someone's fetishes in "those" there. -_-

Good thing they had released the FD first before this. as DC4PH will just ultimately fall just like the other H-game if they had released this one first.

< report >"Abomination" feels like a bit of an overstatement to me... The biggest "crime" of this game from what I can see is the fact that it just... doesn't seem concerned at all with improving on what was already there, instead just settling for shoehorning in H-scenes. Well, that and the voice cast being across the board a step down which I guess can negatively impact future games unless they decide to just go back to all-ages games after this. Which, looking at how III went is... unlikely.

This does kind of feel like it's validating what I'd been saying all along though: I don't think 4 was envisioned as anything but an all-ages game with some suggestive scenes. And the way the H-scenes are implemented here it's like... even if they are technically part of the route they still feel separate from everything else. Like you have the original epilogue playing, then the slow fade to white that typically signifies the end of the game... and then it fades back in for the H-scenes to start. It just feels... strangely detached.
Also the bonus epilogues from the Switch/PS4 versions are just part of the regular route now. Which I suppose at least means you avoid the interface spoilers those versions had with Arisu and Arisa's epilogues both being listed from the get-go, and also Sorane having an epilogue that very pointedly does not unlock after her credits, making it blatantly obvious that another ending exists... Granted with how the H-scenes have been implemented here I reckon we now instead have the issue of her route obviously not being over because there were no H-scenes. Unless they actually added one during her route. Which in her case I feel like should be doable but I'm guessing they didn't...

"Abomination" feels like a bit of an overstatement.

*long sigh* Yeah, in hindsight, ill admit... maybe.

Or maybe its just a part of me (that kinda shows) being a bit salty after my "worst" possible "prediction" imagined for the scenario actually happened... that's all.

Also the fact that the new game engine wasn't even used here. By itself, it leaves some questions and raises oddities.

Oh, about the VA line-up. While it does the job, it now felt like that it could had worked better if maybe they had re-arranged some of the characters.

Because of some of them doesn't really fit the role they were 1st assigned to. but would had fit better on the other. (IMO)

I don't think 4 was envisioned as anything but an all-ages game with some suggestive scenes.

While i agree to that in some extent... i still beg to differ. *redacted*

PS: holy crap... was about to write something ending similar. until i read the point.
And the way the H-scenes
yup that exact feeling.

(somewhat now useless, but i felt like letting it out)

From my perspective, i was originally expecting this still go down the same route as III series. And the H-scenes will be somewhat inserted "properly" like the past works. (the same old stuff) or a non-canon F-disc. in the sense of "just to get by" type

And the "SEQUEL" from the console ones will be that "anchor" point to secure the future FD's. (back when the FD wasn't even announced)

but oh boy.... that over-hype. wish they just reserved that for the FD -_-

Regarding the Sorane issue: TBH i am already resigned at this point. even if i agree to some points of yours and me still stand by on my opinion in t16172. since no other people i suppose wants to discuss.

< report >I mean, me bringing up Sorane here had nothing to do with our previous discussions about whether or not the initial ending counts as a Bad End or something else, but rather just the simple fact that the route has more than one possible outcome, and how in every version of the game but the initial PC release, there's something about the game that makes it glaringly obvious that something is missing (the fact that a bonus epilogue for her is clearly listed in the "SEQUEL" menu yet it doesn't unlock after the first playthrough on the console versions, and the fact that despite this being an eroge she did not get a H-scene in Plus Harmony), despite how the game very much tries to pass off the initial ending as being the ending, with credits and an epilogue with new CGs and everything.

BTW, through the power of the fast-forward button I can confirm: It is exactly the same way in PH. And indeed, once again the H-scenes are all in the epilogue so one can easily deduce that something is missing just from the fact that there was no H-scene before the initial "Sorane dies and Ichito just falls into a lengthy depression before ultimately deciding to try and carry on without her" ending.
Which... must be really annoying for anyone who's a fan of hers and was looking forward to her H-scenes in this, seeing that once again they have to pretty much clear the entire game to get to them. And this was one of the routes where it seemed totally possible to fit in a H-scene before the climax, too.
