Question on spoilers via voice seiyuu & their role

< report >Hi, I wanted to ask concerning spoilers being kinda opened.

What I mean is if a user goes to character pages to gather information but doesn't want to be spoiled there's precautions taken to stop such things.

However, what about spoilers concerning the voice behind the character if there's more than one role? More specifically two roles and both are main characters?

Would that be considered spoiler? Seems like an unavoidable one.

spoiler is being used below.

The stream by Sakura Miko for the game Parquet that I'm watching just revealed some character development concerning both main characters. To be fair I was on and off during this part but I put two and two together. Both roles are by the same seiyuu. Would it be wise to leave her name out in the open seeing at the moment there's only two main characters besides the protagonist making the guess work obvious?Last modified on 2021-07-30 at 20:11

< report >Is it really a spoiler? I just got an email from DLsite about that game and it's literally written there in the description.

< report >Isn't it kinda being vague on the DMM page?
Quote 秘密を抱えた3人、“彼”と“彼女たち”の同居生活が大きな変化をもたらしていく――

Over at Steam the translation.

Quote "Learning to live together with their secrets, "he" and "they" will bring about big changes..."
The protagonist underwent the experiment like the two main characters. However, the seiyuu is purposely being exposed out in the open on the page.

I'm also asking for any future and past titles as well just in case since I look into the characters and their voices.

Perhaps hide one behind the spoiler tag? This way it can still promote the seiyuu to the user?Last modified on 2021-07-30 at 17:52

< report >There's no way this game is long enough to warrant hiding one. This whole idea will just bring about more questions about "where is the VA for this character" and "why is the VA a spoiler".

In addition, most games give the VAs for the characters on the character page on their websites regardless so it's not counted as a spoiler on vndb.

p.s. "voice seiyuu" is redundant.

< report >Sadly we still don't have a spoiler setting for seiyuu, but an established practice says not to add VAs for characters where that can be considered a spoiler. Instead feel free to add them in the character description under spoiler tags.

< report >#5 Does this mean I can remove some VAs from certain characters? I know few visual novels where that can be considered a spoiler and official websites just lists the VA as "???".

< report >If you think that looking at the VA page and seeing the characters they did in this case would be a spoiler, feel free to remove them.

< report >#4 Yes I get that not much can be done there but some users may not be privy to that information therefore visiting vndb to gather information about this or that game. If they decide to click the spoiler it'll be on them on why the seiyuu's name is being hidden. That's the whole point of a spoiler tag. Isn't it?

"voice seiyuu" is redundant.

Corrected one, don't think I can edit the title thread.
#5 & #7 That kinda sucks. Would be useful if admins can add that in. Even if it's revealed by the developers, on this site it'll at least be behind a spoiler tag. Just placing one of the voiced characters behind a spoiler tag would suffice I believe for this game that way the developers, seiyuu and their fans, localization team, the user and so forth can still receive the intended promotion.

Not sure about other games.

I don't want to remove it. If such a feature is added how can some future editor correct if it's added to the character description?

[edit] Two posts over at Reddit perfectly reflects why I made this thread. One redditor, TheVict0r questions if both main characters are by the same seiyuu. Another redditor, Gnneas, is asking where he or she can find information about the seiyuus for the game.

If said person like Gnneas were to visit this site for their information it'll be behind a spoiler tag for them to reveal it to themselves. It'll at least prevent somebody else from a potential spoiler no matter how small it is to someone else.

#6 I was wondering that too. There was another game which I cannot recall where the seiyuu being tagged as the role of that character gave away a spoiler.

I'm sure there are characters where there's a past and present self and such story plots.Last modified on 2021-07-31 at 00:00

< report >Right as of now, Parquet has this seiyuu info on all 3 platforms it is legally available on. All 3 platforms, (Steam (Chinese, English, and Japanese), DMM, and DLsite) clearly lists the VAs of both characters as the same person. The official website does it too (No need to even visit the characters section, just go to the news section and there is an interview with said VA.) Take the information section on steam, it is very "in your face" about the fact that both heroines are voiced by the same person. And after playing the game until chapter 4, I can say with some level of confidence that it was an intended choice (Gimmick?) to reveal such info form the start. Edit: Finished the game, point remains unchanged.

#8 mentioned that "Even if it's revealed by the developers, on this site it'll at least be behind a spoiler tag.", but is that really a good thing? Maybe the information is intentional? The reddit example given doesn’t reflect the case here. Every person that is considering playing this game (Full game or trial) should (in my opinion) and would (From the number of times they echo this information on every single platform) be aware of this fact thanks to the "marketing decision" made by yuzu.

In conclusion, I think yuzu actively WANTS the reader to connect 2 and 2 together and adding a spoiler tag to prevent this would not make anyone’s experience better. Again, this is just for parquet, and I am all for vndb continuing any efforts taken by devs trying to hide character-VA relations.

And as of #8’s reply to my personal thread that I disregarded beliar’s guidelines for editing,
“You disregarded the thread link and its intentions because you either refuse or can't grasp the concept Even post made by bellar suggests the change. Why not contribute to the thread instead of following your own lead.”

Firstly, I believe I understood the concept well enough, since it is also quite commonly agreed upon that anything on store pages are not spoilers. IMO if the devs put a ??? next to something on a store page, it’s a spoiler. Anything else is public knowledge.
And secondly, I would recommend #8 not resort to glorified “Do you even English” attacks for vndb edits.
And lastly, I agree with #8's reply to #6, but that is clearly not the case here.Last modified on 2021-07-31 at 18:02

< report >There is also one weird quirk on the DMM page. If you are on mobile, the characters section stops showing. That might be where #3 got the "being vague" part from.

< report >OP, you really need to take a hint and stop. Nobody else actually agrees with you. It's revealed on the site. It's revealed on store pages. There is zero reason for it to not be in the db.

#12 Take your head out of your ass for a moment. You're not saying anything that hasn't been already said. I don't care if you agree or not let the user decide to spoil themselves.

You probably don't give a crap about spoilers.

Further, some folks did agree with me via revision notes when edits are made.Last modified on 2021-09-08 at 09:34

< report >The only thing beliar said is that if you think it's a spoiler, add it as a spoiler. Clearly the only person who thinks it's a spoiler is you. This way is supposed to be used when the seiyuu is hidden on stores and advertisements. Not when literally every single site except for vndb has CV:東山奈央 in big letters next to the character.Last modified on 2021-09-08 at 09:36

< report >Go complain to yuzusoft bud. Until they put it as a spoiler, it's not a spoiler. All non-spoilered info from OHP is supposed to be non-spoilered here.

< report >I'm not your bud. There are many spoiler tags added on this site for games that didn't have them for the purpose of their story and so forth that is if you have the capacity to know about such information.

Probably time you stop posting and actually mind your own business.

< report >I would, but your edit war is annoying. You said this spoiler is for people who have some interest in the game. What happens to those people once they go to the game page to see if they should buy it? They will see the seiyuu. What happens when they go to any of the stores to buy it? They will see the seiyuu. Hiding the seiyuu is the spoiler thing to do, bud.

< report >#17 One thing I hate are liars. There's no "war" going on. There's been 4 revisions of 14 for the female character in question and likewise on the main page out of 25 removing the seiyuu's name. Don't exagerate shit.

You must have a reading comprehension issue. I've already covered that. Again, you're not saying anything that has not already been said.

If you got no interest in the game, go away.

< report >#19 It's an edit war because folks don't read and are selfishly taking it upon themselves to ignore notes?

You seem to know nothing. I'll educate you. I've had to reverse the change just twice. The rest were legitimate edits. Excuse me while I roll my eyes.

< report >No, it is an edit war because you are forcing your opinion whether this should be considered a spoiler on others.

If Yuzusoft shares the VA information everywhere before you even get to play the game, then it cannot be a spoiler.

< report >#21 Two reverse edits = Edit wars. Gotcha, talk about exageration. I hate stupid people.

Alright, so when are you going to start to rid of all spoil tags for all games on the site? Including spoiler tags that only exists on this site but not so on this or that game?

I mean, those dastardly editors added a spoiler tag on other games forcing their opinion. They were unselfishly looking out for other players so they don't ruin things for themselves unless they decided to.

They all must be stopped!
