< report >I've been thinking of some ideas to improve the website. How about the ability to edit tags and traits? I think it's a good idea. What do you guys think?

< report >firstly let me introduce you to the vndb suggestions thread: t950

secondly that's an awful idea. imagine if any randomer could edit tag definitions and change the criterion for application. that change could mean that a few vns with said tag could potentially stop fitting the requirements of the tag. however the tag would still be applied to them, thus rendering the tag useless in its job of determining if said tag's characteristic is in that vn or not. there's a reason there are only a small handful of moderators who can edit them and why they're really cagey in making big changes to tags.Last modified on 2021-09-30 at 20:55

imagine if any randomer could edit tag definitions and change the criterion for application.
then a moderator would notice that in the recent changes page and fix it(maybe even locking it if necessary) just in the exact same way they seem to already do with normal entries, be it characters or visual novels. that's really not a valid point since trolls and discussions about arbitrary topics will always happen in the database and edits that are not ill-willed would naturally only help to improve it

in actuality, i was really surprised to see that the database didn't allow minor edits to tags when all that would be needed to do so would be just replicating the current system with visual novels and characters, with the exact same pros and cons.
that happened when i thought of editing the Hetare trait description to remove the "not worthy of being called a man" part so it could be less sexist and the "Thus making it somewhat bearable by some quick reading."(what the hell?) part which also adds nothing to the trait definition

< report >wow, you're fast. i got lost for a second
i particularly believe directly editing would be more viable but i admit i was unaware of threads with such purpose
