Yet another 'best girl' doesn't get a route

< report >#17 The weirdest thing to me is that EVNs are associated at all with VNs, I'm sure some fans overlap, but from my experience looking at random VNDB accounts for example, people almost always play primarily regular VNs or primarily EVNs, never just a mix of both. It's hard for me to enjoy almost any EVNs because they usually lack anything in common with the medium I enjoy other than the format being the same.
#18 You put words to what I was thinking, if VNs just adopted loads of western aspects I would have no interest in them. EVNs acting like regular VNs and vice versa is the worst. Katawa Shoujo was made by people with a love for the medium, perhaps that has something to do with it.

< report >#16 holy fucking shit, do you hear yourself? just the mere idea of some girls in a vn not being attracted to the mc means that the vn is trying to "correct your perception"? so the 'correct' perception is every single female character drooling over you? jesus christ. jeeeesus christ, dude.
you'd get along with the guy getting triggered by "raging feminists." which has apparently come to mean people who write a vn where there could be, gasp, ONE female character who isn't addicted to your cock. i can't believe how spoiled y'all are when the vn market caters to you specifically. everywhere you look, it's gary stu and his harem the game.Last modified on 2022-06-22 at 19:03

That's mostly on moeges. Companies like SMEE have an aversion for side character fandisc and it sucks. Plus some nukige VNs. But yeah there is at least some hopes but really sucks that they will have to settle with much fewer sex scenes compared to the boring main heroine.

< report >there should be a game where the mc is just a wingman, or acts like a generic "friend of the protagonist", he doesn't get any girls, just his friends, and no jealousy or ntr either, it's a romance game where he doesn't get any romance and is perfectly fine with it.

< report >#27 if you read through the thread, you'll see that the post I replied to said that not all girls being love interests "helps clear a bit the vastly flawed perception of the world we get drilled in our heads by these VNs." I was only saying that I'd rather VNs didn't make it their duty to try and teach me how to perceive the world. I never said anything about what the correct perception to have is, you are mixing up two different meanings of the word correct (correct as in fix is what I meant). You're projecting completely. You made your account to reply to me though so that's cool I guess. I'd like it if there were more single heroine VNs honestly.
Personally, I wish more VNs let you help your bro character get in a relationship with someone, or just have them enter a relationship in general. Kinda like what #29 said.

< report >#29 #30 The only way we'd get something close to this is some indie writer makes one with no desire for any profits. I doubt many people would enjoy reading from the perspective of the side character. And the "no jealousy no ntr" part makes it even less "interesting" for the average reader. At that point, just tell the story from the perspective of the real "MC".
I liked how something similar (but not really similar) was handled in Sakura Sakura. It has 2 protagonists, each with 2 love interests that form 2 love triangles. In the first half, you play as one of them, while the other MC is a side character. After his "arc" is complete, the story moves on to the other MC. I suggest both of you to read it especially if you are the type that enjoys love triangles.

< report >#31 Sounds interesting enough, wish more VNs did neat ideas like that. Added to my wishlist, thanks for the rec.

The "friend" character in any VN will always be either an mysterious speaks-in-riddles, gay, or a loser. This is to ensure that the fragile ego’s of Japanese VN players aren’t shattered by someone cooler than them getting the girl.
The only exception to this is NTR games that cater to humiliation fetish. ~v~

< report >Lol "fragile ego", I burst out laughing at how VN players love roasting each other for enjoying the same thing.

< report >#33 lol true. At least some like Dies Irae have the friend already in a relationship, but I guess that's quite a different genre
#34 I also enjoy the roasting

< report >#33 most MCs are lame losers too, it's not the friend character only.

< report >#30 #31 #33 I agree, I always thought it's extremely disappointing when they make the side friend (male) character a complete butt monkey as to drive home the point they will never get any of the girls the MC doesn't get in that route. My ego is not that fragile, is everyone else's ego that fragile? And of course it's implied those girls stay forever single, pfff yeah right.
Instead I would love to see those side characters with relationships on their own more often. I've seen it happen in around 3% of the cases, but every time I see it happening it instantly becomes clear that it will be a good story where the author actually tries to write something that is not carried all the way by the satisfaction of primal desires.
