< report >So, which VNs have the best comedy aspect in your opinion, guys? Games from Key like Little Busters and Rewrite have some comedy-gold bits, the same I can say about some other games from the top 100 - G-Sen, Himawari Shoujo, Himawari, Island, Majikoi (obviously), Grisaia, heck, even Higurashi has some brilliant comedy in it. If you want to make your slice-of-life moments entertaining and make your readers connect to characters, incorporating comedy is a must, this is why it's so common to see in the top-tier visual novels. But what about other, less acclaimed games, that may perhaps have a "meh" plot but still, totally made you laugh more than once? Or perhaps it was just a silly nukige you've downloaded to fap but end up reading it mostly for laughs? Share your experience.Last modified on 2021-10-20 at 15:14

< report >@2 Okay, it's description starts rather dark for a light-hearted comedy VN. xD

"Riku and his childhood friend Misora loved each other, but she passed away in an accident when they were in grade school."

Can you spoil me if she's really died and the new girl he's met is a different person?

< report >Kazuki Fumi (Nanairo Reincarnation and the following games in the series, 9-nine-) writes some of my favorite character interactions among modern writers. Niijima was also really good in Hatsuyuki Sakura (he also did two routes for Key's Summer Pockets), but this game doesn't have a translation right now. Unless Nekonyan will decide to pick it up later.

Also, Alice Soft games are generally good at mixing humor and serious plot.

< report >@4 Well, I've played my share of Alice Soft games and their comedy was kind of meh to me personally. It's more silly than funny.

< report >@3 That's exactly what happened, and it's just the premise. The game itself isn't dark at all.

< report >without a single doubt, 428. it's by far the best humorous VN i've played, everything works perfectly together there, the aesthetic, the interactional mechanics and the characters writing.

MGQ also has a really memorable style in its comedic aspects, even if it has its most serious parts, the laidback narration and easy-going jokes are just too fun themselves

i ran out of options since you said Majikoi already, but i'd also surprisingly say I really like S;G's comedy mostly. Hayashi(the writer) is just really great writing comedy in general, but he naturally doesn't have many options in the thriller that Chaos;Head is and Robotics;Notes doesn't have too many colorful characters or situations to provide absurd jokers too. i'd like to see more of his apparently genius writing style but i don't have many options, since he didn't even write that much to begin with

< report >Good thread.

The game that made me laugh the most is the Kyonyuu Fantasy series, any game of that franchise is funny.

Other funny games are Tsujidou-san no Jun'ai Road, Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai!!, and that's it, wow I realized only now that I didn't read much comedy.

Suki to Suki to de Sankaku Ren'ai: This one is supposed to be funny, but I didn't laugh much, you could give it a try.

< report >@10 Actually, I already downloaded the first Kyonyuu Fantasy game but haven't played it yet. Maybe I'll check it out soon if as you said it has great comedy other than just porn.

< report >Miyagawa Takanori 's route in Akatsuki no Goei was definitely great. Other than that the stuff by Hato comes to mind. Tsuki ni Yorisou Otome no Sahou also had some parts that were absolutely golden. (Thanks to Luna)
In all cases the original Japanese versions that is. Aside of comedy being subjective, it's also the by far hardest to translate. So a translated version can obviously be more or less funny for that as well. And for what it's worth, I'm super happy I would not need to translate any of these things. The first one would maybe work, but Noratoto and Tsuriotsu would be very hard and time consuming to get that comedy adapted.

< report >@12 What about link from Hato? It's shorter than his other games and is likely to be a nice way to check if his comedy works for someone. It also seems to have a "double language" option.Last modified on 2021-10-21 at 05:23

< report >@13: That game has a very different style and is a lot more translatable as a result. I liked it a lot. Not necessarily for its comedy though. But it was definitely made for international audiences, so the rather.. Japanese humor, references and so on isn't there.

@14: He always did some more serious than fun works, and I'm going to be honest: He's better at the fun parts. I never thought I'd laugh so much at what essentially boiled down to toilet humor in that "Aya" route. Most games with comedy don't exactly make you laugh so hard you have to stop a while.

< report >The Best Eroge Ever. It's an eroge parody that squeezes hundreds of eroge and anime references into a 20 minute piece. I watched someone play it on youtube and I was in hysterics. Almost every encounter scene ends with 'and then I fucked her', and each "heroine" has a class (ie. Osanajimi, Imouto, Loli, etc) and they all have numbers.
Also Yuzusoft games are pretty funny. Senren * Banka especially.Last modified on 2021-10-21 at 13:11
