< report >Convenience: It's really convenient that for some inexplicable reason both Rika and Hanyuu couldn't able to remember events several hours before Rika dies or the day she dies (but for another inexplicable reason Hanyuu is able to remember at ch8). Because of that we got good mystery vn in our hands. Yay! Anyway, I still bought that. That's not the real "convenience" I am talking about here. Real convenience is this: Rika has Hanyuu at her disposal. As a supernatural being like a deity, normally nobody able to perceive her except for Rika but Hanyuu herself can see and hear things. This makes her perfect spy. Just let her follow Tomitake and Takano at night of Watanagashi and there, you solved whole mystery. What? Both of them couldn't thought about that for more than 100 years? That's the real convenience I am talking about.

Instead she follows poor victims, people who got Hinamizawa Syndrome. As explained, L3 or above patients can somewhat able to perceive her. They cannot see her or hear her voice but they can hear sounds she makes. That's the reason why they hear footsteps following them. This exacerbated their paranoia and drove them further into corner. I mean, if you are really sorry then stop repeating that and following them already. What the hell girl? Do you secretly enjoy their suffering or what? Half-jokes aside, when she is first introduced I really thought she is utterly selfish and didn't help Rika on purpose or maybe even got her way like I told above to prevent her from surviving. Because if Rika survives and manages to get her happy ending this means even if it's decades later she will eventually die. And this means Hanyuu will eventually lose only person she is able to communicate and will be left sad and alone. But if she is trapped in time loop forever then they will be together forever. But it seems that wasn't the case. It's just that both of them dumb, conveniently.

Plot hole: As I said above, L3 and above patients can hear sounds Hanyuu make. When they infiltrated "Holy tools shed"(saiguden) at ch2 and ch5, contrary to Shion and Tomitake, Takano didn't hear a thing. But when ch8 comes they said "she did the things because of Hinamizawa Syndrome". I think this is result of author trying too hard to give too much of happy ending even to the villains and he forgot these little events at ch2 and ch5. I mean, maybe you can make some explanation like "she got the disease only at ch8 for some reason" but that will be too forced and I don't think that will satisfy me.

Anyway, despite my complaints above it's good enough vn when you look at the big picture and these things remains minor enough.Last modified on 2022-01-23 at 19:50

< report >I always assumed that was just Tomitake telling a white lie to keep Takano from being executed by the Watchdogs straight away.

< report >I wish but unfortunately no. This is what says at credits screen:

...Additionally, according to tests run on the Major, she is infected with Hinamizawa Syndrome, and her condition has become severe. Therefore, it is possible that she can not be held accountable for her actions at the time of the incident. The Major remains at the Institute, and is being treated to prevent her symptoms from reaching the terminal stage. When she has recovered sufficiently to be moved, she will be handed over to the disciplinary committee.

< report >Nah, it's a lie Tomitake made up just like #2 says.

As for what the credits say, she's being held at the Irie Institute with Irie and Tomitake so the tests could've easily been faked.

< report >spoiler tagging because you never know
The entire point of Hanyuu is that she considers herself just a bystander, she never acts until Ch. 8 because she didn't think she had a role in there. She must not get involved. It's not that she didn't think about saving everyone or making other interactions, she thought she just couldnt. and i don't think that your judgement of her being selfish up until that point is wrong at all, it makes perfect sense

You say that but she certainly doesn't neglect to involve herself by following poor victims to the death (and making them even madder in the process). But even disregarding that, if Rika came to her and said: "Those two (Tomitake and Takano) murdered last loop quite brutally, follow them this time and report back to me. Let's learn who killed them." I don't think she would have refused (though real problem here is Rika (and Hanyuu if you want to count her as well) couldn't even able to think about that for 100 years).Last modified on 2022-01-24 at 17:33

Wasn't that her arm though? Sorry, my memory's not too fresh on this one.

I think she did that because she wanted to apologize to them. At least that's why she followed Keiichi on ch. 1 (she was the girl apologizing from the opening scene).

That would've been a good idea actually lolLast modified on 2022-01-24 at 23:16

Admittedly that part was a bit ambiguous. She scratched her arm but she scratched her neck as well. It wasn't clear if it's because of stress or syndrome or mix of both. When that combined with the credits scene I thought she clearly had syndrome. But what are you guys saying seems to be possible as well but not too convincing. Btw, in Miotsukushi Rika clearly states she has syndrome at fight scene between two.

I think she did that because she wanted to apologize to them. At least that's why she followed Keiichi on ch. 1 (she was the girl apologizing from the opening scene).

Yeah, that's true, but unfortunately I don't think intention is important here. I mean, look, he just wrecked shoe rack to get rid of you, you don't exactly have a good effect on him, if you are really sorry just get the hint already and stop following him. But no, she follows him to the death, quite literally (and not just Keiichi as well, even loop after loop she never learns her lesson).

Now I thought something amusing. Rika defined Rule Z as "Breeding Ground" of rule Rule X but it feels like primary contributor to Rule Z is neither Ooishi nor Takano but Hanyuu.Last modified on 2022-01-25 at 00:50
