< report >Ileca's post in t17874.13 made me question about the amount of contributors in VNDB and other wikis/DBs and if users find those external links useful... or not.
Maybe editors don't know how to add links in VN or producer/ staff pages?
Maybe those links are not useful and because of that just a few users bother to create/add Wikidata entries?
Maybe people don't have the time to contribute in another website?
Or maybe people don't know how to add/edit a Wikidata entry or don't understand their rules?
Hopefully this poll will satiate my curiosity on this matter.
Another thing I saw is the lack of a list of external links that can be added to the different entries (something like the release edit form, which have this), so I tried to make a simple list of those websites and from where they are taken.
For releases there is Play-Asia, which is fetched from the JAN/UPC/EAN ID number (t8242.769)
Yes I know this post is perfect for the how to edit thread, but I wouldn't be able to create a poll if I posted there.
Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not trying to propose a new feature or changes to the guidelines.Last modified on 2022-02-26 at 09:58

< report >Twitter link for dev would be very useful, but alas my idea of it being a field was turned down since you can "just create wikidata" for thousands of devs.

< report >Those external links are useful. Really.
It's just that adding to wikidata is a chore. Beyond understanding how it works (what took me some time), you need to remember the properties and how to use them to not get errors after adding them (what took me some time because you have no guide for properties you can add to producers or staff; now I use one of my old entries as a template). Some properties are really ambiguous, you are not sure how you can link them to the entry and if you are doing it right. Some are a pita like twiter you need to find the user ID.
If you want to do that properly, you should add every staff member and circle on wikidata every time they have a twiter or some site. This is too much work for what it is.

< report >My opinion is that AniDB, VGMdb, and Wikipedia are the only worth, but I'm not adding the releases so that's all in my case. Something with walkthroughs would be handsome too, but I still hope this obvious feature will appear here. Yet, I don't understand why we need Wikidata.

< report >VNDB uses Wikidata to link to those websites that you see in Visual novel, producer and staff entries. When you input a Wikidata ID, this website will grab all links related to that particular Wikidata page from a list of statements (small box where the information is located) and link them here.
Let's say you want a VGMdb link in a certain VN page. First you need to locate the Wikidata page of that visual novel (or in most cases create it) and copy the item ID (you can see this in the url) to the Wikidata ID field. After a short time, if it exists, that link will automatically appear in the VN page.
For example in https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1347470 the ID would be Q1347470 (which is the Wikidata page for 11eyes)Last modified on 2022-03-07 at 04:15
