How do I see “yes” to “no” ratio of vn reviews?

< report >Basically topic. I’ve noticed you can like or dislike reviews, but can’t find how too look an exact amount of how many people have considered the review to be useful, and how many —don’t.

< report >You can't. See t14639 for a discussion about that back when the reviews were introduced. I added a "# points" indication a few days ago to in an attempt to do something useful with the votes beyond sorting (it's roughly "upvotes minus downvotes", capped at 0). But with how few people are actually voting, it's still pretty useless...

< report >Why vote? If I want reviews for Japanese VNs, I go elsewhere...same with non-Japanese ones. Additionally, people who review Japanese ones also haven't necessarily played it in Japanese but via machine translation, making it completely worthless. Of course, the quality of the reviews in general isn't exactly something to boast about either. So, yeah...not worth it. I would completely ignore it but unfortunately they are cluttering up the "VN Discussions" column on the front page where I would rather see what actual discussions are happening (it's the same level of annoyance as the people asking for hook codes).

> Why vote?

Why not? What’s wrong with seeing what people think about reviews? I mean they have already added a comment section under them, and theoretically voting system exists too. There must be a point to it, right?

>If I want reviews for Japanese VNs, I go elsewhere...

Where exactly? I cannot think of a single place that provides reviews exclusively to visual novels

< report >Points being about helpfulness, I think it should be put right below vote, not greyed out at the bottom, and even worse if you are connected, hidden by the voting system itself that stands much more than the points it spits.
You should be able to see at first glance how much a review is popular/consensual, not have to search for it in a place that varies on height.

< report >@7: Just because something exists, there doesn't have to be a point to it. The reasons for that I have already mentioned. Maybe it will change in the future, when they will become relevant and/or proper. But until then...

Depends on what you are thinking about. There are places that have them but it's typically only managed by a single person and not a "hub" or something but a blog or website or whatever. Considering my interests lie mainly with older games, I'm decently well covered and it's not difficult to find via search engines. Though, more general, didn't EGS also have some? (Haven't been able to access the website in forever.) Other than that, websites selling the games have review sections, DLsite first and foremost (especially for newer games).

< report >#9 VNDB could be as useful as blog in the reviews sense, given you can check a person's profile and see all their reviews (just wouldn't contain all the formatting and attachments that's possible in a blog).

Doesn't EGS and DLsite only contain reviews in Japanese? I can't think of anywhere other place than VNDB for VN English reviews from multiple users.

< report >DLsite allows reviews in Japanese, Chinese, Korean and English. So yeah, you find English reviews there.

< report >There are very few English reviews on DLsite and most major VNs with official English releases aren't even released there. A good alternative to VNDB reviews is the Reddit WAYR archive. It has reviews for a lot of VNs in English from many different users.

< report >That's why I said in my first post that for non-Japanese VNs, I would go elsewhere. This also includes translated ones which I personally don't care about.
As for the number of English reviews on really depends on the work. Funnily enough, I had an English review there before...when they machine-translated a review from my native language into English - I told them then to delete it. Only those four languages allowed at the moment, meh.
