< report >Please remove the footer quotes that are about sexual harassment, sexual assault or rape. They're not funny, or appropriate, or even healthy. And even if within the vns they have another meaning or are meant to be ironic, as they're taken out of context, they can only be understood literally.

It has been bothering me for a while how some quotes were weird, gross or straight-up offensive. I tried to ignore them at first, but now that I have just run into one that is, at least out of context, basically an apology of rape, it's too much. I get that the idea was to have funny and quirky little feature, and I can get behind that, but the choice of quotes was really badly done.Last modified on 2022-06-23 at 08:54

< report >Quotes are great as they are now, please don't change them.
Also if you get so annoyed by something so trivial like this then a place like this isn't where you belong, just saying.

< report >Please keep the quotes as they are. They are nice. The more weird and/or offensive, the better the quote.

That you don't have context is what makes them funny. That they are gross or offensive without context makes them even funnier. That's the point. That's the joke.

No sane person would think they are meant to be taken literally. It seems the problem lies with you, not with the quotes.

< report >I'm not sure how much luck you're going to have convincing anyone here to remove them, OP. However, for your sanity, I might have a solution:
 div#footer a:nth-child(1) {
display:none;
}
Copy and paste that into the custom CSS section under My Profile > Display Preferences. It basically finds the first link (a:nth-child(1)) in the footer, which is the quote, and hides it (display:none). If ever the footer design changes and the quote link becomes the second link or whatever you can change the nth-child number to hide it again.

I would personally also prefer if the quotes simply did not have sexual harassment and rape lines, but I personally don't see this changing any time soon. My experience with the VN community in general (not just this site) is that people really don't care whether or not something is offensive, and offensive = good. If you're gonna use this site, I think your best bet is just to make it so you don't have to look at those lines at all in the first place.Last modified on 2022-06-23 at 04:46

< report >You can also just use an adblocker to get rid of the quotes feature. Disable it for yourself if you like, no reason to ruin the fun of others. Tame jokes are often not the best.

< report >Only feature I want is the removal of Umineko quotes :p

For real though, I've found multiple VNs I like through the quote feature, it's great. One of the best parts of the VN community is that it's not morality policed

< report >Why is it that folks like op always scream for censorship of an entire site, just because they are not able to figure out how to modify what they get shown on any given site? #7 and #8 told you the best solutions to your problem. And please learn from this experience in the future and think about how you are acting among others, Be it on the net or irl...

< report >Dear topicstarter, please leave VNDB and never come back. Leave our glorious dark "unappropriate" nukige alone. There are many other sites like Resetera for people like you.

< report >#7 Thank you, your help and support are much appreciated.

To all the other people that commented on this topic without the best of intentions, I don't think you understand the real issue.
I'm not advocating for the removal of the entire quote feature, on the contrary I agree that this is a great idea. However, what one finds funny is different from what is appropriate in a public sphere, and public sphere is different from private sphere. You can laugh about whatever you want in a private sphere, whether in DMs, private discord servers or irl among friends, etc..., because this is in a private setting. The jokes are restrained to people that agree on what is funny and that can enjoy them.
A public sphere works differently. There are some rules to follow that ensure everyone can be at ease. And yes, the quotes that appear in the footer of this site are in the public sphere, because anyone that goes to VNDB.org can see them. This is not so much about what I want and more about how this place can be made more agreeable to people in general. "Jokes" about rape are not only not funny to some people but also harmful. And it would be unfair to ignore that just because there is a loud bunch of people that aren't mature enough to empathise with others beyond their own person and personal experience. You are free to enjoy tasteless jokes, but they don't have to be displayed for everyone to see.
Also, I'm not saying all the quotes with sexual connotations should be removed, I'd hate to advocate for such puritan measures; but that only the quotes that are problematic should be removed. The people that enjoys them wouldn't lose much, and it would make this site much more agreeable to the average person.Last modified on 2022-06-23 at 11:45

< report >Ugh, seems this community is unable to have a normal conversation on this topic, so I'll just lock it.

I understand your concern but I've no plans to filter the quotes for now; feel free to hide them.
