< report >My first was majikoi so i got ULTRA spoiled. not to say my list of VN's are very long as this is a new fancy of mine, but majikoi definitely the reason i got interested in visual novels and I am still waiting for best girls route to be translated (miyako)

Edit: I lied KS (Katawa Shoujo) was my first VN liked it back then, went back later and realised it was pretty lame... *sigh* :/Last modified on 2013-03-26 at 13:24

< report >I think this is true. My first visual novel was Ever 17 and 999, and they are still my favourites.

Same goes for anime too. The first one I ever saw was Death Note, and it's still my favourite anime.

And it sucked, but I didn't quite realize it then...

< report >For me that was Yu-No. I don't think I'm ever going to play something with as much of an amazingly directed and awesome/long plot again. I even named my cat Yuno at the time.

< report >Like many others, my first VN was 999.
I loved it so much when I finished it that I ended up translating it to spanish! xD

Though it has a place in my heart... I know the are far better VNs now.
Ever17 was... well, simply good. It left me a good taste in my mouth.
But then it was the turn of Remember11... Oh my god, I love it. People like E17 better because it solves everything, but I like R11 more because it DOESN'T solve everything, if not almost anything.
It lets the confusion and paranoia flow through your mind until the very fucking end. And when you connect all the pieces together... you think it's a masterpiece. I've rated it 10, so yes, I would say it's the best VN I've played until now.

Apart from those, I've read Never7, Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate and Saya no Uta.
Now reading Umineko. For the moment, is very slow, but I've already been warned about that, so I'll be patient. xD

< report >Heh. Mine was v111 - nowhere to go but up from there. Not that it was a bad game; it had a lot of charm for what was essentially a nukige.

< report >Shuffle was my first VN. I like it still, even though I know there's a lot wrong with the game. It's not my favorite, but I still have some nostalgia for it

< report >By that logic, my first VN, At Summer's End would be the best. As others have pointed out, nostalgia goggles tend to blind oneself.

Granted, it feels true for certain things: Neverwinter Nights 1 is still the best Western RPG IMO, but that's because I never saw those cliches before.

Still, Collage was the first VN that had an effect on me as a reader, so I guess my 10 proves OP's point? I'd like to testify on Collage's behalf, but..... :)Last modified on 2013-03-30 at 13:39

< report >My first VN? Fate/Stay Night. A great incipit I should say.
I loved it with all my heart. After reading that masterpiece, I became a avid reader. Sometimes nostalgia comes over me, especially with Ever17.

< report >Just wanna say this is not a thread about posting your first Vn, since that is pointless. Or maybe people only read the last posts or something...

< report >Once I got into the medium, I definitely made a point of seeking out the most highly recommended titles, so it didn't take me that long to reach a downswing, but I don't think I got to my favorite (Sharin No Kuni, rated it at 9.5) until my fifth game. Fate Stay/Night was the first game I played that's currently in my top five, and I didn't get to that until my third.

Katawa Shoujo was my gateway, and I'm grateful to the makers for introducing me to the medium, but while I thought it was good then and now, I don't think I rated it any more highly than I would have if I'd played it tenth or so.
