"Trial Version" vs. "Trailer ver."

This is in response to r21516.4 where the use of "Trailer ver." was changed to "Trial Version".

I believe "Trailer ver." should be used, since this is the English title the developer has used on their website, and it also appears in the title bar when the game is running.

On the other hand, "Trial Version" is a term that 07th Expansion has never used.

If "Trailer ver." is to be used, r21669 (the English patch) should also be changed to reflect this, since that is also the title used in the English patch's script.

The game is "RGD_Trial_setup.exe". The 07th site says "Trailer" and the kanji (体験版) says Trial version (from what I know, I may be wrong on this). 07th expansion IS using the word trial (and trailer). Even if we ignore the Kanji, it says Trial up top too.

So basically both terms are used. In my opinion the English patch should be changed to Trailer as that's what the patch is named on the English site and the Japanese one should be Trial as that is what the original title (ローズガンズデイズ 体験版) is.

Edit: After further looking at the English site they do call it demo, so scratch what I said about it being trailerLast modified on 2012-07-09 at 20:11

Hmmm… I wouldn't go by the file name, URL or link heading, since that's probably more a description of what the file is, rather than the actual name of the game.

The kanji is just a translation of the English, the English being the official title.

So the question is, do we translate the translation, or do we just use the original English title as the developers intended. :-PLast modified on 2012-07-09 at 19:12

In the end I doubt anyone cares if you change it back, as long as you have good reasoning for it and put that reasoning in the summary

I'm afraid you're really mixing up the titles, or maybe that's just wishful thinking on your side, not sure. 体験版 is used pretty much everywhere on the official website and even in the developer's twitter. In the same manner, "Trial" is used at multiple places on the official website for a reason, and is actually consistent with original 体験版. On the other hand, "Trailer ver." is only used once, at the "Trial" page of website.
Which shows us that "Trailer ver." is just a usual fancy english (or fail at english if you're willing to look at it that way) that various japanese developers/companies are so well known for.

As for the english patch, Witch Hunt are actually calling it "Demo version". If we are going to change the current title of r21669, then we should be using this.Last modified on 2012-07-09 at 20:05

Yeah I figured the trailer vers was just a bad translation/Engrish/trying to look unique in romaji/whatever you want to call it. I agree with immiff.
