< report >@41: Nice! I've had the idea of having a mascot in the early days to liven up the site a bit. Not necessarily for the purpose of telling people to read the FAQ for discussion board related mistakes, but more for stuff like "Sorry, your search did not give any results. Uguuu~" or beside the "Before editing" boxes on every edit page.

Anyway, I like her!

< report >The only thing I would note is the length of the T-ruler, it should be a fair bit bigger.
I also find the shape of her face to be a little weird, maybe her mandible is a little too wide...?
Whatever, I can live with that. :P
Also, the side-fang was a nice addition, very cute. :P

< report >How about improving the character by adding:
1. a blacksmith kind of design with a big ass (ban)hammer
2. A school uniform with slightly larger hammer

2nd idea is adding a teacher type character with a ruler.... you know for the edits, guidenelines et al

Just some ideas that came at the top of my head.Last modified on 2012-10-02 at 10:05

< report >How about making a sketch of her being angry for the rule violation for reference. Maybe kind of like the first one, but with a raised banhammer or something. Maybe also a yelling one, like "Don't do that".

This gave me another idea. The ability to lock accounts. A locked account will be forwarded to this new page whenever the user tried to read any thread. The unlock button should appear on the FAQ page, forcing people to actually load the page. It will not make sure they read it, but it will appear on their screen.
I wonder if this is overdoing it. Most likely people just getting linked to the rule violation page will correct most people and the rest... well they just learn to click the unlock button until they are banned.

Another fun topic would be colours. What should her cloth look like? Should it change according to skin? (most likely not worth the time). How do we agree on this issue? :)

By the way, I'm almost 26 - is it dangerous? ;)
Very dangerous. You could be mature enough to feel like an outsider :PLast modified on 2012-10-02 at 10:37

< report >The problem with this banhammer idea that you guys seem so stuck with is that it just wouldn't be true.
People don't get banned that much around here (we only had something like three permabans this far), and they most certainly don't get banned for FAQ violations but for flaming, being provocative and/or obnoxious.
The T-ruler is a much better accessory as it is distinctive and also plays into the pun.

The angry-and-shouting pose with her yelling is not a bad idea either (could be used in tandem with the crying version to throw at rule-violators).

As for color-schemes, I figured she should be fitting the default skin of the site, so I would go with dark blue with white overtones.
Also, I think she could have heterochromia the same way Lasty Farson has, to keep in line with the theme.

In the other hand we could ask for multiple color-schemes for her (without shading to save work), just to see which one would look best, but I'm afraid that would overwork poor Hiromin. :P

< report >New idea. Maybe a desperate/crying/panicking one yelling, kind of like "I told you not to do that. Now you gave me huge problems and I don't know how to stop you from doing so" pose.

The T-ruler is a much better accessory as it is distinctive and also plays into the pun.
I have been wondering why it should be a T-ruler and not just a regular ruler.

I think she could have heterochromia
I absolutely hate heterochromia. I find it disorientating to an extend where focus on the monitor is affected. Your argument is valid, but I just strongly disagree that it would be a good idea.

I'm afraid that would overwork poor Hiromin. :P
Slaves are meant to be overworked :P
(but I was wondering the same thing when I started writing ideas)

But I agree. It would likely be best to make a blank one and try different colour combos to see what works and what works worse than excepted. No need for shading to figure out what clearly doesn't work.

< report >
I have been wondering why it should be a T-ruler and not just a regular ruler.
Because it's more distinctive. A simple ruler is just a rectangle as far as 2D drawings are concerned and is not visually distinctive enough so that you recognize it on the spot. A T-ruler, on the other hand, instantly recognizable (unless you mistake it for a hammer, but that's what coloring's for :P).

< report >Uh... So, I edited her head and the T-ruler size a little. Tell me if something still looks weird.
I would like to hear more specific opinions about the "moe emphasis" engix (#42) mentioned.

About the banhammer: I can sketch it later, but there is the problem Gabezhul (#56) mentioned. So, I am not sure if it would be needed. I am waiting for more opinions.

Also, instead of new poses I have been thinking about different expressions. For example, space-ranger's (#55 / #57) idea could be just the first pose with a angrier/shouting expression.

Now for the colour schemes:
Using vndb's default skin colours: link
Just some tests: link
New good ideas for colour combinations would be great.

< report >I looked around a bit and I think a T-ruler is kind of bad. It looks too much like a hammer.

Besides the word "ruler" is not the first thing that comes to my mind when I see it. However drawing a regular ruler has more "ruler" in it, like link

I also wondered about having a schoolgirl look with a blackboard ruler. I recall the one we had at school had alternating red and white blocks, making it easier to tell it's a ruler. I can't find an image of such a ruler though.

I also found this awesome picture link
I don't say we should copy it, at least not too closely. There is way too little moe in that pic. Somehow I imagine the ruler should stick out to the left. which means holding it in her right hand and away from her body.

< report >@65: because, well, I thought vndb is like a "practice" for you in software developing / web developing or something. < report >There is a huge difference between not having time to develop new features and stop hosting. I can't see why Yorhel should stop hosting because he would be short on time. I can see why he wouldn't add new features, but just keeping it running is a whole different story.

Besides the expected free time after graduation compared to free time for students is often assumed wrong. Usually students end up with assignments and other stuff, which means they work more hours each day than regular working people when you consider preparing for lectures for the next day and stuff like that.

As for being student practice. Everything I coded for VNDB has been after I graduated. It's not like it's a student only thing, you know ;)

< report >I think everyone should come to some kind of consensus before 10 different people keep telling poor hiromin to change this and that. Maybe have a vote between different color combinations that hiromin has created or something along those lines. Because otherwise everyone is going to want different colors.

I do agree with the statement that the heterochromia is a little distracting. I think the version with the blue or red eyes looks more natural.
