< report >Speaking of the bimbo tag, I am a bit confused by the hierarchy of different kinds of sluts.
So we have Perverted Heroine, which should be a catch-all, but Promiscuous Heroine isn't its sub-tag, nor is Dominatrix Heroine, Prostitute Heroine, Gyaru Heroine, Mesugaki Heroine, Sadist Heroine, Masochist Heroine, or Rapist Heroine.
(I also think the description of Heroine with Sexual Experience is overly dry and apologetic, but that's just our admin.)
bimbos ftw <3
Also, the character traits != game traits thing could lead to all kinds of edge cases where games/characters were inadequately tagged, hurting discoverability. Someone might give a character a certain trait but not the corresponding heroine trait in the game, or the other way around.
Ideally, a trait like Heroine would be used per game-character and games wouldn't directly have character traits at all. Each character could have a table of games he/she/it appears in, and the value of each row would be a sub-table containing traits. That way a character could be marked as having H scenes or a certain personality in game A but not in game B, etc. Then the traits would auto-propagate to the games.Last modified on 2022-05-07 at 03:47

< report >For discussion rather than a specific suggestion.
There's a lot of confusion about the various kinds of SLG and what exactly they're meant to mean here, particularly when it comes to Raising Simulation and Dating Simulation
On forums outside of VNDB I often see it put forth that a game is only a "dating simulation" if the stat management is primarily focused around managing the protagonist's relationship with other characters in a mechanical way. You need to be able to schedule 'dates' in a reasonably freeform manner rather than only interacting with other characters when it's scheduled to happen in the plot. You may boost the protagonist's stats, but you also need to raise money for dates, buy gifts, regularly ask girls out, and manage how many affection points they gain based on where you take them and what dialog you select there. (There would also have to be some amount of Main Plot to qualify as a hybrid VN, of course.)
At some distance from this would be the Raising Sim, in which you are specifically raising the stats of a character who is not 'you'. You aren't directly playing that character, even if that's the character who's onscreen most of the time. You are a boss, a parent, a manager, who is guiding that character. (This fits with the definition currently on VNDB)
In-between these is what's often described as a Life Sim, in which you are directly controlling the character and the stat gameplay is focused heavily on boosting that character's stats. This may or may not involve any romance at all, but it certainly doesn't involve dating management.
I bring this up because I see a lot of games on VNDB at the moment currently tagged "Raising Simulation" that do not involve raising at all (there is no separate character being raised). Some of them involve romance (but not in a date management way). Some of them don't have any romance at all. (See The Executioner ) And I think they've been given this tag because people were uncomfortable labeling them as "dating simulations" when they aren't, but did want to emphasize that they involve character stat management, and so ended up with a Raising Sim tag.
Which means Raising Sim is full of mistagged games that are not raising sims.
So what's the best approach here?
* Move all games tagged Raising Sim that don't involve raising a separate character into Dating Sim even if there is no dating and no romance in the game
* Move all mistagged Raising Sim games into just Simulation Game and leave it at that
* Rewrite the definition of Raising Sim to be any kind of stat-raising whether it's a separate character or not. Remove Dating Sim and move all the entries into the new Raising Sim category.
* Create a Life Sim category and adjust the definition of Dating Sim to draw a clear distinction between them, then move a bunch of games out of both Dating Sim and Raising Sim.

< report >That's a problem of people not reading the descriptions of parent tags. For those cases the tag that should be applied is the generic Simulation Game.
Similar to RPG games, simulation games (SLG) usually have stats representing certain values of your character. And to achieve certain goals you try to build up certain stats. On RPG's most of these stats are combat related, while on SLG's they are mostly aspects of our daily lives.Besides of the need (or not) of a separate life sim tag, if this is a problem that needs to be addressed (I don't know how many games are wrongly tagged with Dating Simulation), I suggest to add to Dating Simulation "Do not use this tag if none of the stats involve a romantic/dating element; use Simulation Game instead" in big, bold letters.Last modified on 2022-05-08 at 14:32

< report >No, they shouldn't. I already mentioned this, but the high school protag/heroine/hero should be removed from under High School. For example for middle school, the tag description says "Some part of the game takes place in a middle school." But you can have middle schooler heroines in a game without ever stepping into their school. The entire game can take place at home.

< report >@bassttark I strongly disagree. Just because a character is a Middle School Student Protagonist or a Elementary School Student Hero, doesn't mean that the setting is a school.
Actually, I suggest to make a new non-applicable tag called "Student" under Misc. Character Tags and then move Student Protagonist, Student Heroine and Student Hero to that new tag (and also create a new "University Student" tag and move University Student Hero, University Student Heroine and University Student Protagonist under it). This would make searching easier if people are looking for a school setting.

I support #2817 @Ezezin proposal.
#2816 Just removing High School Students from High School would not be enough because they would still be descendants of School via Student Protagonist et al. That is why Ezezin's proposal is better.

Beliar, we need a bimbo tag.Not sure if serious... Imho, this is too much of a character attribute to assign it to a VN. There are only 3 characters tagged with Bimbo, that do not have a Bimbofication trait. Doesn't seem like the tag would be useful at all...
@butterflygrrl: Ezezin is right here. Any game that does not fit in a specific category should go under a generic Simulation Game label. Not sure how useful Life Sim would be, as I feel it's quite hard to define it.
@bassttark: I will implement Ezezin's suggestion.
@anay: That's a tag very few people will ever use or tag, which will never make it acurate. Just use Ezezin's suggestion.
So we have Perverted Heroine, which should be a catch-all, but Promiscuous Heroine isn't its sub-tag, nor is Dominatrix Heroine, Prostitute Heroine, Gyaru Heroine, Mesugaki Heroine, Sadist Heroine, Masochist Heroine, or Rapist Heroine.A case could be made that Promiscuous Heroine should go under Perverted Heroine, but other tags you have mentioned are completely unrelated to being perverted:
Dominatrix and Prostitute are job descriptions.
Gyaru is a fashion/lifestyle.
Sadist/Masochist only describe heroine's relation to pain and need not be used in a sexual setting.
Rapist describes an act, which can be perpetrated for a variety of reasons (like blackmail) and has nothing to do with perversion.
The only other slightly ambiguous tag is Mesugaki.
