This game has been collecting dust on my shelf for a very long time. Because of recent events, I realized that I just HAD TO read something lighter, so when I stumbled upon it again, I decided to give it another try. Another try, you ask? Well yeah, this game has it's fair share of issues that can make you pull your hair out...

First of all, its format. The only translated version of the game is a DVD-version. If you ever played one of those, I guess you already understand the problem. No saving. No skipping. And the worst: technical issues. Like that if you try to speed up, the subtitles just disappear.
It might be an issue with only my player, but it's still annoying. And it's just plain infuriating, when you play for more than three hours, and your game goes to waste because of some DVD-reading problem. And you have to start from the beginning.Let me stress that again: THE GODDAMN THE BEGINNING!!!

But these are not the VN's faults, but the dumb-asses who decided to release it this way, so let's move on...

The artwork is decent, though I don't really like the drawing style personally, the OP/trailer is captivating, but the music is just average. As for the rest of the technical aspects... aside that the transition between two background takes ages, nothing spectacular to mention, but even that is just another DVD issue.

About the plot, it is pretty good by itself, with an interesting take on time travel and its consequences, but there is something that kills it all: The protag, and the need-to-know-informations-only approach of the storytelling.
My main problems with the protagonist is his voice, his reactions, his thinking and his existence. Nothing mayor, really... :P Seriously though, his voice do drive me nuts.
As for his reactions and thought process, well, let's just say that identifying with him is not exactly easy. I mean, maybe it's just me, but if -I- started to jump back and forth between a time period of two months, my primary concern would NOT be dating a girl.

I've yet to finish a route in this game, which is mainly because every time I have to stop playing, I have to skip to the point where I left off because of the aforementioned technical issues, and the only way to do that is to keep pressing the NEXT-button on the remote, and choose the same choices I did before, which is both gratingly slow and extremely snnoying. In short: unless you have about 15 free hours straight to play this game, it's a pain...

The music is just average.
Strange.. in my version it playing so quietly, that it almost can't be heared. Voices are loud, though 0_0

Actually, there are passwords in the game, which can be viewed in menu at any moment (usually I see the password before choices). Each symbol of it you have to manually single out by arrow to see it all, though.. but anyway it is much more faster than skipping ;)
And protag is awful, I agree )) Plot are very slow-pacing and girls are typically anime_like retarded.. well, I'll play further for awhile but already sense that it will be wasted time 0_0Last modified on 2010-03-10 at 03:40

Wow, I never noticed the passwords. I will take another look at the game when I get home on the weekend... But I doubt I will seriously play it. It's just too slow and yet waaaay too confusing. -.-'

I guess I just had too much time on my hands for a whole weekend and got through each ending. Honestly, I liked the main points to the story, but true that I couldn't stand the protag -_-' Anyway, if you would like a really condensed version of the whole thing, just watch the two episode anime and get it over with. I think I like the swimming girl's story the best though, it's already been a long time since I played it and returned it to my friend. I kept a sticky-note pad and pen around for the passwords and each girl got her own page of passwords... yeah, pretty much a whole weekend was taken up.... damn, that's pretty pathetic... hahaha.

What are you talking about? A whole weekend... Hahaha... Try playing CLANNAD in one sitting, and you will see that one weekend is nothing. :PLast modified on 2010-04-02 at 11:03

True, it was not exactly a whole weekend spent on the story itself, but I didn't go anywhere during the weekend and also had shows to watch. Anyway, i think I'll make CLANNAD my next target now, thanks for the input.

You are welcome, though I also recommend a walkthrough for CLANNAD. It's a wonderful game, but some of those shining orbs are mighty hard to get.

I'll necro this thread with my review of this game. Additionally I have written a walkthrough and a guide to make it run flawlessly on a PC.
