Yeah, I guess pitying people does come with that. But who says it's a bad trait to have?
Anyway, I dunno, Makina's route is just very well-written for a change. I can't believe people who are fans of a medium that's all about writing hate it. I mean, if you can't enjoy good writing, why are you even reading Grisaia?

@427 I very much enjoy good writting. Sadly, I think we would disagree on the definition.
Was Grisaia well written? I would say parts of it were. Some parts were muddled or inconsistant with other parts of the story, mostly due to the fact different writters wrote different routes. The humor was rather consistantly of a good quality. But really, the most important aspect of whether something is good writting or not is whether it emotionally or intelectually connects with the reader. And Makina's route was a zero for me on that point, at the bottom of the list. I like Makina, but her route left me feeling nothing.

Was Makina's route over the top? Yes, but so is every route. Was it badly wrtten? Hardly. I've got nothing but respect for Fujisaki after having read Angelic Howl. The guy sure can write.

2013-08-23 at 04:47
hey guess what? I liked Angelic Howl too. I have a lot of respects for the guy for writing that. I really do.
but as far as Makina route is concerned, the way the characters acted very incompetent both in first and second half (especially first half) made me cringe. And maybe that's precisely why Angelic Howl is very forgivable when it comes to incompetence. That useless captain knowing 0 sense of survival was what made their doom. If Kazuki were to lead the party they'd be out of that situation in 1-2 days tops. But of course, this leadership is stolen by the captain and it was stolen badly.Last modified on 2013-08-23 at 04:49

That useless captain knowing 0 sense of survival was what made their doom.I'm pretty sure it isn't a must for a class or basketball captain to have knowledge about how to survive in the jungle. Waiting for a rescue squad instead of looking for a way out which is risky as well isn't that implausible of a choice to expect of a school girl who just got stranded in a jungle.
If Kazuki were to lead the party they'd be out of that situation in 1-2 days tops. But of course, this leadership is stolen by the captain and it was stolen badly.I'd refer to you a novel by William Golding; Lord of the Flies. A lesson on human nature in those same circumstances. link There's no way they'd follow Kazuki in the first two days. At least not all of them. That is partly why Kazuki backed down after suggesting the idea. It would only have resulted in the segregation of the group. The captain wouldn't have calmly accepted that. And a fight in that situation wouldn't have been pretty, right?
Call it stupid or whatever you want. It would not have struck me as odd had the Captain reacted like that. Humans are not incapable of that.
Of course, this is just my humble two cents.Last modified on 2013-08-23 at 05:58

^ I know she's just a natural airhead. Not to mention high in useless pride and ego. It would be weirder to have that bitch with brimming competence. Its only natural she'd choose the safer option. nothing to see there.
On the other hand, Yuuji isn't incompetent. Making Makina route very convenient for the second half.Last modified on 2013-08-23 at 06:17

[spoiler]About conveniency, the tourist and his turkey in Yumiko's route, the freaking guy with his shotgun in Amane's route, and what you call the 'incompetence' of Yuuji in Makina's route.. I mean, they are convenient. But they are just contrived plot devices which don't really hamper the experience as a whole. Given how over the top the VN really is. Nitpicking isn't really an option with Grisaia. You wouldn't know where to start. It'd be better to just enjoy the ride. Personally, I didn't find Yuuji to be that convenient in Makina's route. The route itself was overly dramatic at some point, but still amazingly well-written.
That said, Michiru's route's still trash. [spoiler]Pure supernatural trash.Last modified on 2013-08-23 at 07:18

I'll "deal with it" as soon as your "opinions" are written in correct and comprehensible English.

@438 You nailed it. Grisaia is really over the top despite how it may appear at first, and I think your enjoyment of it will depend on how tolerant you are to certain overused tropes (like the incompetent military/intelligence organization... I swear, "Ichigaya" is worse than CTU, which is quite an achievement) and less-than-comprehensible logic in most of its routes.
That said, I thought it was a fun read, but not much more.

Well I just finished it and I can't say I'm not satisfied.
I read all the routes and here is my ranking order
Best part of the game was the common route and Angelic Howl.
My favourite track was orange sunshine. The whole ost did its job but wasn't really anything special.
Obviously anyone nitpicking should have realised during the common route that this was going to be OTT.
