< report >Is there still going to be a 2nd Restoration Patch?. The reason I want to know is I really want to play this game but I'd rather wait til things are fixed/improved.Last modified on 2014-04-26 at 04:25

< report >There are plans for another restoration patch but progress is slow.

In my opinion, the current patch does a good enough job if you want to play the game badly enough. There are a few rough spots, especially during the Ageha route, but aside from those scenes it's an adequate translation.

< report >Yes, the second patch will be made eventually, but not anytime soon.
Mainly because what #2 said about translation quality is so far from truth that it's not even funny. The first half of the common route wasn't that awful indeed (aviation infodumping aside - that was pretty much gibberish), but later on it turned into a huge mistranslated mess that wasn't even in English at times. Characters' routes seem better, but I only have scripts that were already fixed to some extent AFTER the 1st patch was released, so it's very likely that they are quite horrible in the currently available version as well.

So no, the current patch is still very, VERY far from anything you could call an adequate translation.

< report >Well I've recently tried playing some pretty gnarly translations (like the Koitate partial patch which is wretched), and after the first restoration patch Konosora doesn't hold a candle to them in its levels of engrish. So maybe my perspective is skewed. But I don't remember having difficulty comprehending any of the translation aside from a handful of rough spots, mainly during the Ageha route. I understand it's still not very good and there's a long way to go, but I still managed to enjoy the game. If you want a high quality work, then definitely wait.

This is also just talking purely about readability/comprehensibility, and not necessarily actual translation quality.Last modified on 2014-04-26 at 20:46

< report >I'd tend to agree with #5. If you're comfortable with occasionally dubious sentence structure and a few scenes that (especially during the Ageha route) don't seem to flow completely logically, the first restoration patch is certainly serviceable, at least in terms of readability. On the other hand, I've also read LN translations that could only be charitably referred to as "English", so my threshold might be lower than others.

< report >Dear God. The translation is horrendous. I feel like I need to leave this here as a warning. Like it was previously said, it wasn't awful in the common route, but it gets so much worse it's laughable. I'm currently playing Kotori's route and it is atrocious. Just now for example, Ageha called out to Masatsugu "Ma-bou", his nickname since childhood, the nickname that had been correct dozens of times until now but for some God-forsaken reason now they translated his nickname into "Geez, you're such a baby!". What. The. F*ck. I get that the nickname is meant to give out a juvenile tone to him but that wasn't the point, it was just a plain and simple mistake. And that one isn't even one of the worst ones I've found *. People complain a lot about broken English but that's the least of my problems. The biggest one is the blatant amount of purely mistranslated sentences. I picked up on tons - and that's only in spoken dialogue and within the range of my comprehension of Japanese so imagine the amount of errors in total.

*(I'm sorry for the rant but I need to give out more examples - I need to vent a little bit) Oh my god I just skipped two dialogues in this scene and another terrible mistake. Ageha says "Ita, ita" after looking for the glider in the air. That should be translated to "There it is" or something along those lines. Their translation: "Ouch!". I am not kidding or making this up. How can a human being have such a lack of common sense that he can't realize that was wrong. A couple lines later Ageha says Kotori is piloting the glider and Akari says "Habane-san ga?" (as in "Habane san is [piloting]?"). Their translation: "And Aoi?". Apparently Akari in the translation isn't the least bit surprised. Less than 5 mins later, Akari says "(...) Kawatta wa ne, Habane-san" Which approximately means "Habane san has changed", their brilliant translation: "there's no reason to change out Kotori". How can they even make that mistake? The next sentence is also a mistake - original "Keifuu gakuen ni nyuugaku shite kita koro kara zuibun to", I'm not sure about the translation since my jp knowledge isn't great but I think that considering context it should translate approximately to "Since enrolling in Keifuu School/Academy [she has changed] considerably". Their translation: "She's been enrolled in Keifuu Academy for a while now.". And this is all within a very short scene. Consider these are all mistakes that I (someone with little Jp knowledge) could find in dialogue only (since I'm not using the original for comparison of the written parts.

Once again I apologize for the rant. Anyway, if anyone's wondering if the translation is passable, let me tell you - it is not. It's terrible. You should probably wait for the patch if it ever comes.Last modified on 2014-07-14 at 22:29

< report >@7 I feel your pain. I originally learnt a little Japanese and then stopped and went back to reading in English. Then because I had learnt enough to notice all these kind of basic mistakes I just decided to start reading things in Japanese again.

< report >@ OK I see. Sorry for asking but is the mistranslation will affected the story much or not and is the sex scene really translated thanks in advance

PS I kinda expected sex scene using MT though but hopefully not

< report >@8 Exactly, it's frustrating. I know enough Japanese to get the dozens of mistakes but not enough to allow me to play it raw. I think I'll need another year or two for that.

@9 First, concerning the sex scenes, they are translated if you get the restoration patch.

The horrendous translation errors don't really hinder the general story, you get the gist of it. But I think that shouldn't be enough for anyone since this is a pretty cool game. At times you have no idea what the hell is going on in a conversation, things just don't make sense. If you're thinking about playing this I would definitely wait for the patch mentioned before, no matter how long it takes. It's better to not even start. I started and was enjoying quite a bit and now I'm just planning on leaving it until the patch, even though I really wanted to finish some of the routes.

With the current patch, H-scenes are included and translated. And while it's just a speedy TL, it's still better than MoeNovel's BS. As for the TL in general - this is a charage, so there's not much to miss there in terms of plot, but when it comes to jokes, characters' interactions, and pretty much everything that is important in charages.... well, it's fucked up. Check the samples below, and decide whether you want to read something like this or wait a long time for the re-translation (it's not TLC anymore...).

I know right? I'm going through Kotori's route right now, and after the first ~1/4 it gets absolutely horrendous. The script where they go on the first date is probably one of the most inaccurate ones I have bumped into so far, and it's a very, VERY simple, everyday conversation. They were pretty much just writing random stuff there, and several lines make no sense and/or are out of context...
And since I'm utterly sick of their retarded hack job, excuse me but I will post a few samples to vent a little as well (those contain some minor spoilers for the early part of Kotori's route. Also note that my versions are still unedited):

Sample #1
Classmate: 「水瀬、おまえ羽々音さんと付き合ってるって\n ほんとか!?」
Aoi: 「いきなりなんだ。\n まずは“久しぶりー”とか“元気だったかー”\n から始まるものだろう」
Classmate: 「それはおまえが質問に答えてからだ!」
Aoi: 「……イエスだよ」

Classmate: Minase, you just said you're dating Habane?! Seriously?
Aoi: Well, it happened kinda suddenly. It started with small talk, you know it's been a while, how've you been doing?
Classmate: You talked about things like that?
Aoi: Jesus.

My version:
Classmate: Minase, you're dating Habane-san?! Is that true?
Aoi: What is it all of a sudden? You should start with something like ”Hi, it's been a while!”, or ”How've you been?”.
Classmate: After you answer the question!
Aoi: ...... YES I AM.

Sample #2 (probably the best one).
Aoi: 「(恥ずかしいからやめてくれ!)」
Ageha: 「(んー、でも、黙ってて、\n こそこそ噂されるよりいいんじゃない?)」
Aoi: 「(う……)」
Aoi: 「(……でも、俺の伝説まで語る必要ないだろ!)」
Ageha: 「(……そういやそうね)」

Aoi: (I'm embarrassed ok, please cut it out already.)
Ageha: (Uh-huh but silence creates better rumors doesn't it?)
Aoi: (Uh...)
In our sophomore year, Kotori was very bad-mannered.
Though the number of our mutual friends increased, there were still enough girls to hold a grudge.
I wanted to stop any strange rumors before they started.
Aoi: (But there's no need to stop them while they speak of my legend, right?)
Ageha: You would think like that wouldn't you?
I know it is only a simple amusement.

My version:
Aoi: (I'm embarrassed, so stop it already!)
Ageha: (Hmm, but isn't it better than keeping silent and letting rumors spread behind your back?)
Aoi: (Uh...)
In our second year, Kotori had a very bad attitude.
Now she's normal and she has more friends, but there are still girls who hold a grudge for that time.
So Ageha wanted to forestall any weird rumors by telling everything in advance?
Aoi: (...... But there was no need to go so far and talk about my legend!)
Ageha: (...... Well, maybe)
I knew it, it's just for her own amusement.

Sample #3
Akari: 「そう、もうそこまで。\n さすが、やる気があるクラブは違うわね」
Ageha: 「朱莉さんのおかげです。\n ほんとにありがとうございました」
Akari: 「やる気があるクラブから活動の場を奪うなんて、\n おかしいと思っただけよ」

Akari: Wow, I'm impressed. What else should I expect from a club that has motivation comparing to a club that doesn't.
Ageha: Thanks to you Ms. Kumoi. Really, thanks so much!
Akari: Here is a club with motivation, however a little strange I thought.

My version:
Akari: I see, you are that far already. As expected, clubs with motivation are something else.
Ageha: It's thanks to you, Akari-san. Really, thank you so much!
Akari: I only thought it's unbecoming to deprive a motivated club of a place for their activities, that's all.

Sample #4
Just because it is registration day, and all we are seeing all of the regular students doesn't mean that we are having class.
The homeroom teacher reminded us that we were on summer break and that we should leave.
My version:
Even though it's a school day, it doesn't me we have classes. We're pretty much only showing up, that's all.
The homeroom teacher reminded us of the important matters we should be careful about during the summer break, and it was over.

Now THIS is what you call a "rant". :P
Those are merely from the first 60(!) lines (and I still omitted quite a few screw-ups), and entire 1000+ lines long script is like this. Sure, this is the worst script I have seen so far (common route just had a crappy, blind idiot translation plus total gibberish in place of aviation infodumping, but it's not THAT bad), but the latter part of Kotori's route doesn't look any better.Last modified on 2014-07-18 at 20:23

< report >Your translation is already googolplex times better than moenovel. Their script looks like that one from Edelweiss link which gave me cancer when I looked at it a couple years ago. It's sad to see translations that don't even make sense in English.Last modified on 2014-07-15 at 09:41

< report >@11 Wow those examples are (sadly) hilarious. I had found some of those sentences weird in the game but now that I see it like that it's even more ridiculous. That just cemented my decision to leave this game until either the patch comes out or I can read it by myself. It's really sad since I was really enjoying it and I had grown fond of the characters but playing this VN like this is almost like doing a disservice to the game itself.

I don't understand how this happened. Isn't moenovel a branch or something of Pulltop? Shouldn't they give a damn? Their page says they're based in Tokyo, how can they have messed up this badly? Is there any explanation?

They outsourced TL to Playism/AMG, who aren't qualified to TL novel. Also, it was done in very short timeframe with zero QC.

it seems like the translator... isn't even at N4 level. They may not even be capable of conversational Japanese.

< report >@13
I think this happened precisely because they are a branch of Pulltop and are based in Tokyo. Most of their staff probably has no idea about English language, so they couldn't really check it. They hired an external TL company that has some experience with translating games (but not VNs as far as I know), and just left it to them. And they fucked it up, because THEY didn't give a damn.

Also, that huge outrage about censorship completely covered up the REAL issue with the translation.Last modified on 2014-07-15 at 11:12

< report >a big LOL @11 examples.

the ranting is sadly justified. horrendously so. I've seen "flavored" translations which, really, I'd just raise my middle finger and move on, but this... THIS butchery needs to go. And this is coming from someone who only had idea how to command JP language thanks to his native language having lots of similarities.
