It seems to me the setting for all four of them is somewhere in Europe but may I know which part of Europe the setting took place for each of the Visual Novel?Last modified on 2015-03-03 at 20:18

Um... It's a fantasy world, so... none?

I mean, this is like asking on which continent you can find Middle Earth or Azeroth, if you catch my drift.

I only played the second game, but it seems to me the setting is only pseudo-European. That is, inspired by medieval Europe, but not actually taking place in it.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it took place in real Europe since the synopsis specifically mention Europe so I thought the setting could be in UK, France,Spain or German.

The game takes place in a Middle-Age western Eurpoean town.

Hidden in a forest in Europe sits an old castle that has stood there for over 1000 years and inside this castle lays a magic school.

VNDB translation mistake?Last modified on 2015-03-03 at 15:16

It's not the translation, it's people copy-pasting from old reviews without checking anything for themselves. Hell, the description of MaW 3 and 4 are exactly the same and they claim to come from different sources! If that's not a lousy mistake, then I don't know what is... -.-'

Unless of course if the world this place is set is called "Europe" the same way Sengoku Rance is set in "JAPAN" or Daibanchou has "Transsylvania" bordering "Egypt". Japanese developers can be pretty fast and loose with naming fantasy geography.

It's not the translation
it is, actually. it's obvious if you check corresponding game synopsis on getchu, for example (link, link). and there's no translation mistake, it says "西欧諸国" and "ヨーロッパ". that said, OP question is still meaningless as it's just a fantasy setting.

Everyone here has said that it does not take place in Europe. What is there to be confused about?

It does not take place in Europe.

#6: When I said "it's not the translation", I was referring to the question in #4, aka. saying that it was not a "VNDB translation mistake".

So if it's not translation mistake doesn't that mean it is in fact take place in Europe? Or is the synopsis on getchu wrong?

Btw, William Smith and Cliff Winstonare are both British name right?Last modified on 2015-03-04 at 22:18

Does anyone know the canon couples for Men at Work 2,3 and 4?

I mean, this is like asking on which continent you can find Middle Earth or Azeroth, if you catch my drift.

Lord of the Rings' setting was intended by Tolkien as prehistoric Earth. And the book itself is supposedly English localization of parts from Bilbo's Red Book. So Middle Earth is actually Eurasia and Africa long ago, and hence the novel(s) for most part take place in equivalent of mythological Europe. For what's it worth, Howard's Conan books have similar twist of fictitious mythology/history.

^ Except that the geography of Middle Earth is not even in the same ballpark as the real world, so you cannot even call it "fictional Earth" or something, because it has nothing in common with reality aside of the "author's intent".

Yeah, I get your point and that you only tried to share some interesting trivia (and I don't blame you, trivia is one of the fundamental building blocks of modern communication), but here you are only confusing the OP even further (not that he needs much to confuse him, he strikes me as the type who needs directions on how to get out of a one way street...)
