There are five threads in bdr sky 2, but none of them is general discussion, so I thought I'd make one.
My thoughts after playing the game? Pretty good, but not amazingly so.
I think the high score on vndb partly derives from its amazing gameplay value as a mecha fighting game, though personally I am not a huge fan of it. The gameplay is pretty interesting but sometimes there is too much time that one has to devote to gameplay, and too hard, so I had to play in level ranging from "easy" to "very easy". I could probably pass higher difficulty but I neither am interested nor have the time to do it. I think I enjoyed the gameplay as much as I did because I was absorbed in developing new weapons and getting new extensions. Have to say, though, all the column 4 and 5 weapons sucked. The primitive body motions such as the big crash and fisherman's strike worked the best...
ps: can you believe that I lost to Makoto in several occasions on "very easy" mode...?
Main guy is badass, and Sora as the central heroine is perfect. Can't say the same about other heroines. I really liked Rain, and Chinatsu and Aki are ok. However, personally, Makoto seems mostly pathetic, while Nanoha is just annoying, what with her always crying and whatnot. Probably just my bias.
Overall meticulously done. Reading through 6 routes with the same start point would normally be a horrendous task, but because of the writer's handling with pacing, plot progression, what is revealed in each route, and how player's choice could affect the story, the reading experience is very good. Spent 50+ hours in 6 days finishing baldr sky dive 1+2 (playing on very easy reduces play time by a big portion), and didn't regret it. Nevertheless, if you are looking for big mind-fuck plot twist, this is probably not the best pick, despite being a hard sci-fi vn.
Like how they tied up all the routes together in the end, making all routes valid, instead of just different outcomes caused by different player choices. To be honest, this way of tying together different routes is probably the all-time winning strategy for visual novel galgame as a medium (that uses different "routes" as a result of players' choices). Baldr sky dive proves that it still works if you set up the plot correctly.
The seventh's world is so sweet, and true end is pretty short..
CG and Music:
CG is very good. Character drawing is standard, but mecha, sci-fi, and background stuff is drawn with very vivid and colourful strokes. Liked it. BGM remains comfortable and appropriate throughout the game, and a couple of insert songs during final boss fight in a few routes aroused my hot-blooded self. Pretty epic stuff. Too bad the results was always either me being owned by the boss (normal mode or easy-very easy mode with a bad set of weapon choice), or instant owning the boss with cowardly drone attacks (very easy mode).

Column 4 and 5 weapons are more combo extenders than big-damage dealers (except Meteor Foot and Satellite Laser, hurr), stuff to rack up 6000+ damage combos with. They're not very useful on Easy or Very Easy where bosses have barely 2k health and you'd just stick to simple stuff like Lance or Crash Hammer.
Also, fuck Nanoha. Fucking hetare heroine; I don't see what Kou sees in her. I actually got pissed at Kou whenever he tried to explain away her weaknesses as being somehow endearing. What's that you say? You'd feel strange if she stopped being a whingey, good-for-nothing piss-baby who emptied her tear glands at every setback while others do the REAL work? If she stopped being a selfish cunt, who became a biological weapon but all she could think about was how she couldn't have Kou's babies? Yeah well fuck you too, Kou.Last modified on 2015-05-23 at 08:01

^during Nanoha's route I was more concentrated in the plot rather than the heroine. I detached myself from thinking that this is actually a route where Kou and Nanoha gets good ending.

The hardest fight for me was the one against Makoto. I died countless time against her.
Baldr Sky is one of the rare cases where I like true end the most ALONG with the heroine. Sora, best girl!
Chinatsu got 2nd place. Both character-wise and route-wise.
The true route is just perfect. Plot twists are there. "feels" moments are there and everything tied together so masterfully.
Really like how they synced final battle start with vocal. The instrumental was in background for a while and the moment of "open combat", the jihad vocal starts playing. Perfect.
Jihad is my favorite. Easiness At Time ~Abyssal Ver. for BGM.Last modified on 2015-05-23 at 13:56

Funny, I find almost all boss fights extremely easy because even on Very Hard all you need to do is catch them in heat cooldown and land a long combo string on them.
Whereas non boss-fights on Very Hard have 100000000000000 enemies with 3k+ health each gunning for you and interrupting your combos and blocking your ranged weapons
Btw @OP you might wanna spoilertag the bit about multiple worldsLast modified on 2015-05-23 at 22:48

Hey, I'm going to be buying this and Dive1 soon. I just wanted to ask a few questions.
I'm holding off on buying DiveX for now. Is it okay to just get it later on down the road?
Also, since I'm going to have to use a proxy service, do you think Tenso will consider it acceptable content? I'm assuming yes, but I just want to make sure, so I don't waste my time and money.
I also have another related question. I live in Canada, and I'm pretty sure the Baldr Sky games don't contain any contain that would make them unable to get past customs, but just in case I wanted to get an opinion first. Thanks!
Edit: I just saw that both games seem to have a minor amount of Lolicon, hopefully that won't be an issue, as Lolicon is illegal in Canada.Last modified on 2015-05-28 at 03:43

I'll just answer what I know, since I didn't acquire the game myself.
> From what I know, DiveX is fan disc, so it's ok to get it later.
> I live in Vancouver and I've never heard of the anti-lolicon thing, but baldr sky dive is definitely not a pro-lolicon game, so it would have no problem. Plus, I doubt it is constitutional to check delivery customs more than drugs and other kind of clearly illegal items... ie. think about how custom check works. They are not going to open the disc and play it on the computer to ensure that it is perfectly legal..Last modified on 2015-05-28 at 16:03

Thanks. And yes lolicon is actually considered CP in Canada. There was a case of someone given a prison sentence, for having lolicon on his computer. If you google it I'm sure you'll find it.
And no, I never thought BS was a pro-lolicon series, I just saw the tags and it was in there.
Also, I actually have heard of stories of customs playing through games to check for that kind of content. I'm sure it's not common, but it definitely has happened.Last modified on 2015-05-28 at 16:10

Just wanted to give an update. It seems it passed through customs so I guess everything went fine. Good, I'd hate to be wrongly accused of importing CP. Not that I'm implying that BS would be classified as CP. Still, I have to be cautious when a game has a lolicon tag, no matter how low the rating.Last modified on 2015-06-05 at 19:01

almost all customs are nothing more than crocodiles on the prawl for anything worthy of a hawl. in this case, you.Last modified on 2015-06-08 at 15:51

the romance in this game sucked. very very contradictory imo how kou fucks the girls just after he finds out that sora is probably alive.
