Well.. this is a good game, only until the common route ends.

Honestly, I felt frustration about indecisiveness and getting carried away protagonist. The heroines are just like hordes of velociraptor who loves the protagonist without a strong set-up or reasons. All in all, this game is a wasted potential due to lack of focus on the story development despite having amazing background and CG.

Half-hearted charage, don't even bother with the story.Last modified on 2016-04-08 at 00:11

Totally agreed.

I remembered blazing through the common route in just 2 days because the story was quite promising, then found myself became less and less motivated to finish the individual routes.

And Akane's route ending was completely bullshit....Last modified on 2016-04-08 at 01:46

After playing the prologue, I found myself actually sympathizing with Minato and Oota's group more than MC's group.

What pissed me off was when Oota notices that MC is joining in the tournament and goes to warn MC of the dangers. Afterwords, MC's group wonders what was the point of the that conversation and only to conclude that Oota's group was just declaring that they were enemies... No, they were worried about your sorry ass cause you could get killed. Last modified on 2016-05-25 at 15:03

My hype has just been deflated by this thread.

I'll just go finish up majidekoi, at least i have S to look forward to afterwards.

I swear I saw an anime with almost the exact same premise, but different characters: combat academy setting, protagonist with powers that weren't immediately obvious in combat and ridiculed by peers as a result, surrounded by a harem of girls.Last modified on 2016-07-13 at 18:37

This line is pure gold. :)

As for the actual VN... I just upgraded my rig, so I am currently buried under all the games that I couldn't play in the past three plus years. Considering that said statement includes monsters like The Witcher 2 and 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, Divinity Original Sin, Darks Souls 3 and Fallout 4, and adding in the fact that I have about three hours to play each evening after work, I will probably won't have time for VNs unless it's some absolutely massive release, like one of the Baldr titles. Needless to say, this title definitely doesn't hit that bar, so I will just file it under "maybe try it in the future when I need a change of pace"...

This is a pretty common premise, to be honest, though "Mahouka koukou no rettousei" comes to mind.

The closest one that comes to my mind is "Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance" which I had watched a couple weeks ago. It really has the same setting not to mention it's another LN harem magic school fest with tsundere, kuudere, onee-sama and other character types (aka seriously the same ol' premise magic school LNs have).Last modified on 2016-07-13 at 18:14

Mahouka Koukuou and Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance are similar yes, but I'm thinking of a different anime. The main heroine is a gifted fire-user with red hair of noble descent with big breasts and is the "slave" of the protagonist due to losing a challenge. I think he also has a little sister with blue or white hair who is an ice-user, and she's also infatuated with the protagonist. The red-haired girl and the protagonist end up in a relationship.Last modified on 2016-07-13 at 18:54

Ah, now I remember: Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry. Found a picture of the heroine after putting a bunch of arbitrary terms in Google: anime combat academy red hair fire sister ice

I haven't Heard of this before. What made this game so hype worthy? Is this game really all that? Fuwa's facebook post had over 200 Likes and 80 shares.Last modified on 2016-07-13 at 20:35

And this anime was so shitty and lazy (that's expected from Silver "Crap" Link) that the EXACT SAME season, there was a perfect clone, Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, so perfect that during 5-6 episodes, each week, I was totally unable to remember which was which. True story.
Reading the synopsis of that VN, I can guarantee you that you are right, that is the same shit they are buttering us over and over again. And people will love it.

Welp, gonna skip this one, gotta more fun stuff to read after coming to terms with using machine translations.

I rather continue reading Shirogane Otome, where I am at the start of the third episode, oh and Otome x Domain I also halted shortly before seemingly ending a route not long ago, maybe I continue that one....

but Koiken Otome, nah, if it is this very specific (set of genre) I simply call "HORST" (e.g the H is for Harem, the S for School and... anyway), then it better be written very well and this really does not appear to be the case at all.

Nothing interesting, nothing witty, nothing is funny, nothing is reasonable (girls flocking to the MC for no reason, MC being shunned first because potato, MC being ultra generic, at least make him a Trap or a real Girl or whatever, while not that unique indeed, it is still much more uncommon to have that premise than that bunch of)

I didnt even play for 3 hours and I already find myself tearing my hair out from frustration.
During the recruitment for tournament Seeichi proposed to join twice yet he was turned down because everyone was worried it would be too dangerous for him. After Seeichi goes to fill out the form in secret and participants are listed Akane is grateful to him instead of being angry which made no sense to me.
Other than Akane making me suffer while playing, the game just feels really generic and uninteresting so far. The main characters are so boring the side characters are more interesting than them, and honestly cant say I have too much interest in their character routes. And unless there will be some huge plottwist in common route that will make it interesting I'll remain mostly unamused by it.Last modified on 2016-07-14 at 09:00

I'm a few hours in, at the part where yves and her minions once again insult Akane about her not being able to create a team, everyone is pissed off etc. . I'm about ready to give up on the VN at this point, is there anything redeeming later on in the story or routes? OR is it just still strange how this has a 7.7 rating.Last modified on 2016-07-14 at 14:06

I only played an hour maybe two I dropped it I had to. I read up on it and even though I wish the protagonist had a combat power he didn't. However I still gave it a shot and it was just boring I can't justify actually wasting time on such a generic bore. score=5

And this is how this game got weird ratings. A lot of games on vndb actually. People rate stuff they barely, if at all, read. So don't pay too much attention to the score, especially with few votes or very soon after release. (be it an original release or an English version that pulls more readers in)

I imagine it's due to a selection bias. Those most interested in a game play and rate it first, introducing a positive rating skew.Last modified on 2016-07-14 at 17:46

Yes, though that's a general thing that applies for most things. Outside of the really popular stuff you tend to get a skewed amount of people who rate it simply because why would anyone bother reading something where the setting and such don't sound appealing? Also sequels. Not THAT big of a thing with VNs, but a sequel being higher rated than its prequel doesn't necessarily mean anything, as those who didn't like the first one wouldn't really bother with the second one.

Vndb has a few extra "problems" when it comes to votes, but eh. Can't really change that. Shouldn't trust them that much anyway. To me tag accuracy is way way more important.

I think I was baited in by the description a bit, I was expecting more humanity fighting for survival rather than high school antics with a bit of combat. I'll probably play again in a bit when I've forgot how bad it was so far.

Then again, if you look at quite a few posts above, they too have not fully read the entire story (and some did not even go through the routes). So hopefully they don't vote since that would mess up the ratings even further.

So in the end, trying it out for yourself is the best way (to raye as well) rather than relying on scores or what people have to say. Usually scores and people's comments are there to help show any red flags but they should not be your definite determination. The tags are more important.

Honestly the power of this kind of discussion can really bring a game down under... I understand that some story wanna make you rip your hair out or just drop it in the recycle bin without a second thought but atleast finish a particular route before talking $hit about it.
