< report >Since we only had info from the trial and I wanted to play the game anyway in the near future I got it and tested out how it is pronounced in the final game. It is still pronounced "lolicon".

< report >@alto: The restructuring of companies is always messy, and creating too many labels would bring the mess to the db too. I think I quite like a mix of your solutions 1 and 3. Maybe make DD・T the parent brand of those labels. I don't know if we should rename the labels or simply add the new names like DD・T-Delta to the alias. I personally prefer the latter. And after that we could credit the label as a dev and DD・T as the publisher. Seems like a good enough solution to me.

< report >I think the actual romanization should be in the romanization field, and the one that includes the "lolicon" pronunciation should be in the aliases.Last modified on 2022-05-09 at 18:38

< report >If that's how they're romanized then yeah. The field is called "romanization", not "pronunciation". This is just my opinion, whatever majority wants can be different.

< report >Your examples are kanji given non-standard pronunciations, which is nothing out of the ordinary. Japanese do assign strange pronunciations to kanji sometimes. In this case it's a whole phrase that actually includes kana, which don't have ambiguity about the pronunciation. You can agree that the situation is kinda strange, as the phrase is far away from "lolicon"? Is "lolicon" only vocalized, but was never provided in a written form? In that case I would probably consider it an alias.

< report >#1131 Having rubi (and hence different pronunciation) for whole phrases is nothing out of the ordinary either. Well at least in eroge. I do not have any other examples at hand for actual game titles, but I am sure we could find some in the db if we tried hard enough.
I do agree that the "lolicon" title case is more extreme than the titles I provided. But I am thinking about what value would the romanization even provide if it was accurate to what is written in kanji + kana. Would it improve searchability of the game for folks who do not read a bit of Japanese? Or would it actually make it harder, since the title would not match what they heard from someone talking about the game? Or is the aim of it being there just so we can check the "we have 100% accurate transcription" box and otherwise be completely useless?Last modified on 2022-05-09 at 19:51

< report >furigana is not only for Kanji. you can find shit like 禁断のシンセミア pronounced as 人に触れていけないもの link, and that's how it works. I dare you to choose which one should be used as a main title if that shit is a VN title.
beside functioning as pronounciation helper, furigana is also a form of art. the written form is supposed to explain the real meaning, while the furigana shows the wordplay (sometimes the reverse). and yes, there are times when the furigana is not written. you can find this on Japanese songs and poets.
and remember how Kanji works, one Kanji be pronounced multiple ways, and all of them are right. normal pronounciation for 弘一 is Kouichi, but it can also be pronounced Hiroichi. don't believe me? ask this politician link. if you think that we should use it "normally romanized", then his name should be written as Kouichi, which is quite silly.
besides, some VN does not provide the furigana for character's name. so in this case, we often need to rely on the voice in-game, on how character in-game pronounce it. that's how it always goes in here, and there's no problem with that.

with those reasons above, I'd say the current main title is correct.Last modified on 2022-05-09 at 20:09

< report >So, yeah, you were right, arrangement is a composer job.
select count(*) from vn_staff where note ILIKE '%arrangement%' and role = 'music'
aka how many credits with arrangement in the note field are tagged as "composer" gives me 1569 results against 84 for "staff". So "composer" it is.
Sorry for the misleading.

Now, I would love to know what I did in practice because I don't remember. I rarely add that kind of staff. It would be funny if I did something completely different as to what I said, right?
Maybe the 84 results are from me lol.
Anyway, that's the general consensus.

< report >image editing is okay to an extent, as long as we are not going too overboard like magically creating something out of nowhere. Muv-luv characters link sprites+backgrounds were combined by editing, but it's basically just combining two official sources, so no problem.

looking at his other edit c108488.1, he attached it from another image which is also official, if I understood correctly. so it's kind of doing it like a puzzle, I guess... to complete an image which otherwise unavailable. I would say it's okay.
if there is a problem, it would be the upscaling, but... it's just a small part, so not a big deal to me.Last modified on 2022-05-15 at 00:00

But now, the arms??
Yeah, editing pictures to your liking should not be allowed but I am not sure what he did there. Didn't he just used a better picture? I see no redraw... just centering.

Edit: by editing, I don't mean combining existing assets but making up your own stuff like redrawing, etc.Last modified on 2022-05-15 at 00:05

Yeah, editing pictures to your liking should not be allowed but I am not sure what he did there. Didn't he just used a better picture? I see no redraw... just centering.

I will tell the details. First, I did that to three these ones: first, second, third. In the third one, I did it in the first edit.

I'll give you an example on the third.
1. See her (source of the both images). In the "Upper Body" mode this official image has part of her arm removed. But the problem is that I usually used "Upper Body" to create a character images from the Yuzuriha no Uta.
2. So I go to the "Full Body" (click to the button "CHANGE TO FULLBODY"). Now she has her arm attached, but the resolution is worse. Still, the missed part is rather small, so I deemed this appropriate.
3. I take a screen of the "Upper Body" with 90% browser zoom, removing the elements, preventing it, with browser's Code Inspector. After that, I synchronize it with the background (it is not just white, you see) in the Photoshop.
4. I take a screen of the missed arm in "Full Body", while using a zoom in the browser.
5. In the Protoshop, I correct the size of arm, saving the proportions, strip it from the background with Polygonal Lasso, and make them be "attached correctly". Also, I use Blur and Sharpen tools to improve the quality of the attached arm (it is not the proper upscale, but...).

Basically, I take two parts of images from the official sources with different resolutions and attach them.Last modified on 2022-05-15 at 11:27

< report >I see no problem with that but it's a lot of work for not much. "The resolution is worse"... vndb uses 256x300 images and the tachie is like half bigger. But, hey, whatever fits your fancy.

< report >He means the image quality. If you use the full body pic and fit it to the correct aspect ratio template with photoshop/gimp, you'll get shitty quality. And I mean really shitty link.Last modified on 2022-05-15 at 10:53

< report >What I usually do is crop the image while maintaining the aspect ratio used by vndb and let it downscale when I upload them: 256x300, 320x375, 384x450, 448x525, and so on (increments of 64x75). This way I don't need to use image editors except for cropping.

< report >That's exactly how using a template works. You've got a 256x300 or anything higher with the same ratio as a white background and you fit the image onto that background while maintaining its own aspect ratio. It takes like 10 seconds but you see the result for yourself. The full body image from their website is too small for acceptable quality.

< report >Pretty sure one of Rance 9/IX or Rance 10/X should be edited, not sure which though. Former's entry is listed as Rance IX, latter is listed as Rance 10, but both should be the same style. They both have a roman numeral on the cover/official site, but they're also both listed as ランス9/ランス10 on DMM/other stores. (btw VI, the other one with a roman numeral in its name is listed as RanceVI on site/stores so that one is fine)

So should it be Rance IX & Rance X or Rance 9 and Rance 10?

Variations between the official site and various stores can be inconsistent for many VNs. Imho, we should look at the name in the game title screen for the gospel.

So, looking at link and link it seems the titles should be Rance IX and Rance X.
