Is it okay to use the 'Off Screen Sex Only' and 'No Sexual Content' tags together? I see that a significant number of games have both tags even though they seem to be contradictory.Yes, it's completely okay to do that. In fact, I think Off Screen Sex Only should be a child of No Sexual Content. The only reason not to make it a child tag is a theoretical scenario where a VN has both on-screen and off-screen sexual content, but I'm not sure there are any such games.
Should prototype games be considered as partial or complete entries?Example? Seems we consider them partials: r5872, r2982.Last modified on 2022-06-11 at 13:12

Should the remaster be a separate entry rather than a release under the old game? At the least it adds a female protagonist option (a tag which wouldn't apply to most releases of the game) but I'm not sure how much scenario change there is otherwise

< report >#1180 and #1181 I think we are pretty inconsistent in this one, but I think it's okay because I believe prototype is just a lable for "somehow incomplete release" by the dev, and can vary on cases.
- a prototype that has a proper "end" (kind of an "arc" end) but the story is technically not finished like Pure Pure Dengeki Hime Original is considered as complete.
- a prototype that has whole story completed but in its unpolished form is currently marked as complete, and some are partial e.g. Amakan Ecchi na "Love Icha" Tsumechaimashita with Iinazuke wa Imouto-sama!, and r5370 (although you can call r3674, complete ver of r5370, as a remaster instead). and is not r5872 an exception because it's under the same entry because of similar scripts and the release dates are so close?
- a prototype that has whole story completed but in its unpolished form, but the completed ver has completely different script thus making it have its own entry, is considered as complete (forgot the vn example. edit: Tsui no Sora as reviews say that this game is a prototype of Subarashiki Hibi. not sure how much of it is true tho as I never played the games).
#1182 If the scripts and the story line are pretty much the same, then I would say no. we have tag's comment and character release's selection for that.Last modified on 2022-06-11 at 14:37

The only reason not to make it a child tag is a theoretical scenario where a VN has both on-screen and off-screen sexual content, but I'm not sure there are any such games. If a game has both off-screen and on-screen sexual content, then it wouldn't fall under Off Screen Sex Only so I don't think there'd be a problem with that.
I've got a couple more questions regarding traits:
1. Can Off Screen Sex be used with Not Sexually Involved?
2. Can Rape Attempt be used with Not Sexually Involved if it gets stopped very early (after some groping) before any type of sexual activity happens?

In that case I see zero reasons why it's not under No Sexual Content. Unless someone has objections, I'll switch the parents later.
1. Can Off Screen Sex be used with Not Sexually Involved?I'd say "yes". If no actual sex happens on-screen, I'd say they can be used together.
2. Can Rape Attempt be used with Not Sexually Involved

< report >Butterflygrrl: sounds to me like an addon at best. No change on the male counterpart and some minimal modifications for the story to shoehorn a female protagonist in the game to justify the remastering.
Looking at screenshots, the protagonist doesn't seem to appear on them. Couldn't find HCG so I can't vouch for that but, at best, I see only new CG for some lesbian action.
Anyway, unless someone tells us that the game was rewritten, there is no reason to split as it falls under "new heroine route" but in an unusual way as it's a new protag.

< report >Does the Unlockable Gallery tag apply if the currently released version does not have the gallery able to be unlocked yet? In this VN, the main menu says the feature will be available in version 1.0, but since it is on v0.9, it is not in yet. I only ask because the tag is already included in the listing despite it not being possible to unlock the gallery.

< report >Unlockable Gallery doesn't mean the VN doesn't have a gallery that is coming in in a later version but that "the gallery button is initially not presented in the menu, however it can be unlocked by reaching a certain point of the visual novel". If the VN currently doesn't have a gallery, it doesn't check the condition for this tag. If that's how the gallery will work in the future, I would say it can stay atm. It was premature but if you start negating the tag now, when the tag will apply, we will have to remove the negative votes.

< report >Thank you for the help. The only thing that makes it a little difficult for me is that this is how the VN presents it: link
While I have already read it fully, the crossed off gallery appeared like this when I first opened the VN as well. I'm not sure if this means that the gallery is meant to always be there once the creator makes the finished version or not. Personally, I think the gallery option will be there from the beginning, but I have no idea. Maybe it would be best to wait and see how the creator implements it in the finished version like you suggested.Last modified on 2022-06-23 at 00:07

< report >I can't believe that no one asked this, but I can't find any traces of it, so sorry if I'm asking something obvious, but what to do with characters when their name's reading is ambiguous/unknown? (Only ever written in kanji, more than one common reading, no furigana, no voice acting, and the game is obscure enough to not find any usable info on the net either)
Also, what position is this? link

< report >In my case, I use vndb's characters and staff to find which reading is the most common (probably feeding a loop). If it's not on vndb, I try wikipedia.
I once tried to find a database of Japanese personal data to compile a list of most common readings but couldn't find anything. My best finding was a paying website/app. It just boggles my mind how moronic Japanese can be if you can't properly ascertain how to read something. But worse, nobody apparently thought that it was a good idea to create such easily accessible database?? Or did I miss it?

< report >ENAMDICT/JMnedict has a huge list (accessible for example on jisho.org and in various rikai* browser addons), but it's a hit or miss in my experience. Once I tried to search for other sites, but I only found things like link which is more like a how to name my baby site, so it only has given names, but still better than nothing. An ideal db would list possible readings for a name with frequency information (so you could select the most likely, and not some obscure reading used by 1 person in the whole Japanese history), but I haven't came across one yet. There's a reason that Japanese forms have two fields to enter your name, once in kanji and once in kana, because even they can't read their own writing system, but apparently they don't think it's a problem.

< report >but, there are database for it.
for example, reading for 鈴 according to furigana.info link. can't say it's 100% accurate or comprehensive, but it's best one we have for now. there is also namegen link which I found earlier, but not sure if it's any good or just a simple name generator. another one is link, but this one has no percentage and only shows the most common one.Last modified on 2022-07-02 at 01:55

< report >Hmm, short test with 彰 (male given name). According to namegen it's 98% Akira link while furigana.info doesn't even list that reading: link, instead it says 50% Ara, which namegen doesn't list. Enamdict also lacks it, but it also only classifies Akira as a female name. But a wikipedia search also suggests it should be Akira (and male): link
About vndb, I'm not sure what is the ideal way to search, simply searching for 彰 will find any character who has that kanji anywhere in their name: link Probably not a problem with longer names, but with single kanji names this is not too ideal.
But anyway, thanks for the links.

< report >Checked those sites, furigana.info is a database about texts in literature whilst namegen is only about names. So you want to check namegen for the purpose, obviously.
About the name Akira, it was predominantly a male name but gradually used as a female name as well. But Akira with kanji 彰 is for boys, if you wanted name a girl Akira you would use different kanji.Last modified on 2022-07-02 at 16:26

That said, if someone has screenshots from a non-MTL release then that should be preferred.
EDIT: This applies to official MTL releases. Whether we should allow screenshots from unofficial MTL releases is up for debate.Last modified on 2022-07-03 at 09:49

EDIT: I just noticed the girl is the protagonist, so the question is whether it should get Loli Protagonist or not, since we don't have a flat protagonist tag.Last modified on 2022-07-04 at 10:44
