< report >@575 Just to comment on this, there's little difference between the two either way so few people will care, if you're able to read Portuguese Portuguese, you certainly can read Brazillian Portuguese, I find kinda weird in websites to separate the two tbh.

I mean, it certainly is helpful to be as specific as possible, but other languages have variations also but Portuguese gets this treatment for some reason.Last modified on 2021-05-25 at 04:25

< report >Should a teen rating be 12+ or 13+? I've been putting 13+ because that's what ESRB rating says it should be. But I keep seeing teen rated releases listed as 12+ by everyone else.

< report >T should be 13+. That said, some stores like Google Play show the rating based on the region you are accessing the site from. So, an american would see T, while a European would see Pegi 12+.

< report >I'm not sure if this is what you call an edit war, but Sanoba Witch has 8 changes of playtime lenght in a row. There is a discussion about it, but it seems nobody reached a consensus yet (edits about it keeps happening). Posting here for visibility only, i'm not trying to bring the discussion here.Last modified on 2021-05-28 at 09:29

< report >Well, v16044.52 this edit is completely moronic with no arguments whatsoever. There's a link to the automode below which he should have addressed before reverting the change.
The arguments are that:
1. The language shown is English, which means more moji on average, prolonging the time unvoiced line take to autoread through, because the wait time only starts once all moji have appeared.
2. The text speed slider is clearly set to lower than the middle (50). Leads to the same effect as #1.

I opened the game in Japanese, set text speed and automode speed to 50, and it was much faster, so the progress very quickly diverged from the video. That means the video cannot be used to accurately show game length. Furthermore, I extracted the voices to see that they are pretty much exactly 28 hours long. One reads through MC lines and narration much faster than they go through voiced lines, so the total length is most certainly within the 30-50 range.Last modified on 2021-05-28 at 11:15

< report >Nevermind, it seems I am retarded. Turns out all the H voices are missing from the main archive, and the game has tons of H. The actual total voice length is 36.5 hours with all lines included.
Looking back on the video, it should have been obvious since it's on youtube, but all the adult content is not included in the playthrough, which means almost 1/4 of the game is missing from it.
That said, reading through MC and narration lines is still not going to take more than 14 hours, so it's still 30-50, albeit closer to the boundary.Last modified on 2021-05-28 at 11:36

< report >Hello, I want to ask whether we add shop links to trial releases (e.g. r78729.3)? I can't say it's totally unreasonable, but I usually see trial releases only having official website.

Edit: Every rope bondage/bondage harness or similar traits and tags are marked as sexual content.Last modified on 2021-06-03 at 01:57

< report >Pretty clearly sexual, even if the character is not naked. I agree that the image is at least suggestive. Use Rope Bondage and Rope Bondage

< report >v17909.36 made me wonder... I think the logo one is better and is an official promo image of the game but 707 thinks otherwise apparently. Which one of the images should be the one that fits the best?

< report >I had more or less the same question. In the edit page it says:
Preferably the cover of the CD/DVD/package.
But in d2#4 it says:
Preferably one of the official cover art of one of the releases.

If both are available, which one should I use?Last modified on 2021-06-10 at 14:30

The answer would be - the one that represents the game the best. So, an image that has the actual game title is preferable to the naked poster.

If both are available, which one should I use?
Ummm... What do you mean 'both'? Cover art obviously refers to the cover of the physical media if it is available, as digital releases usually don't have any separate cover art done. That said, we do sometimes get edit wars, where users battle between different cover arts (for example, Standard Edition, Limited Ed, Reprint, etc.). It's difficult say what is a correct decision in that case, but once again the tentative answer would be 'that which represents the game the best'.Last modified on 2021-06-10 at 15:07

< report >The plus edition of Doki Doki Literature Club! has 3 rates: 17+ by ESRB and 18+ by USK and PEGI.

So normally, I would go with 18+

But in the game's cover and official stores, it only has 17+

Should I go with 17+ instead?

< report >For asterisks, so is it supposed to be * in romanized titles and * in original titles when applicable? Right now it's pretty inconsistent:
link and link made EN title * JP title *
link is just * because it was already romanized from the beginning. That however goes against eacil's argument for space
link - this was made with simple * in both romanized and original, despite the cover having the same * as the original making lovers.

< report >I don't see what's the problem with * > *. It's the same logic as for ~ > ~. I am no expert when it comes to encoding but those full-width characters are not used in English so they should be converted.
Edit: and yeah, a one kilometer space between two words is unnatural just for a tiny asterisk to sit there. Spaces are not supposed to be used by Japanese so that's why they don't have this problem.Last modified on 2021-06-14 at 22:17

So you think Making*Lovers should be changed to Making*Lovers or possibly even Making * Lovers (as the other mentioned "asterisk games" have a space there.) and Making*Lovers should be put in the original title field?
#596 by eacil
2021-06-15 at 11:05
< report >Making * Lovers, with spaces, because the full width character is wrapped into spaces even if it's one character. As for putting Making*Lovers inside the original title field, it's probably not worth it because there is I don't remember who, who is formatting the titles and systematically removing the Japanese-encoded titles.

Have seen people do it for the main title but not for original title. In general I do believe * looks a lot better than *, but consistency trumps all. I'll keep an eye out for other asterisk titles then.
EDIT: purged all of 'em from main titles using a query. Don't know how to make queries for releases though, where * appears in the romanized title of the release.Last modified on 2021-06-15 at 12:38

< report >
SELECT '' || id, title FROM releases WHERE title ~ '.*\uFF0A.*';
Someone will have to explain to me why I get those results because if I take r1952 this is not the full width asterisk which is displayed despite the fact that a full width character is stored in the db... I thought my regex was wrong because of that. >.>

< report >Doesn't it get updated once per day or something? I remember something like that. I'll use it later.

Queries are run against an import of the near-complete database dump, updated daily at 8:30 UTC. This means that it may take up to 24 hours for changes to the main database to show up in query results.
