< report >is there some criteria on when to set the developer field in a release? I was trying to create a query to relate a vn to a specific developer based on who made the first release but i soon found out that there are ~1500 games with no developer in the first release and ~1000 games without one in the first 10 releases...
here's a query that lists links to each game link

some of these are the ones without a known developer but these should be a very low number
scratch ^ but not so much...
here's a query for games without a developer at all and it turns out they're exactly those ~1000 (only 2 games less) link
obviously there's no way to tell which is known but not listed and which is not other than manually checking them thoLast modified on 2022-02-04 at 03:13

A producer entry may be created in one of the following scenarios:

1. When it is needed to link the developer or publisher to a release entry. In this case, the producer is required to have released at least one completed product. This means that translation projects and starting developers may only be added when they've actually finished a project.

< report >I'm not talking about whether a producer exists or not. I'm talking about the producer existing and developing a game but instead marked as only a publisher on the first couple of releases of said game
take Chicchai Maid-san or better yet Yukinochi, Fururu! ~Tokoro Niyori, Koi mo You~ as examples

< report >people are too lazy to do a few clicks, and Yukinochi, Fururu! ~Tokoro Niyori, Koi mo You~ is a great example for that as it's already known in full release that Rune is a dev and publisher for the game.

I know that Japanese publishers are often not too clear whether they develop the game themselves or just publish it (they only marked as "brand" for the most part), especially when it comes to Japanese console release. but I believe it is safe to set them as "both" unless it's known otherwise.

I actually have been using link and adding producer to releases lately, but as long as people still never bother to add them themselves, it's never gonna end :(Last modified on 2022-02-04 at 06:35

< report >How long would a common route normally be in a title with the 'long common route' tag? Is the length considered relative to the length of each individual character route or against the length of the title as a whole? Is there a vague fraction of (common + route OR total) length a common route would be before it's long?

< report >I came across a VN that's adapted from a web novel. The heroine's age is mentioned as 15 in the web novel but they changed that line in the VN (both the JP and EN versions) to remove any mention of her age. Should the age still be added since it was present in the original source?

< report >I'd say "no". Such info should come either from the Vn itself, it's official site, or in some way from the developer/publisher of the VN. The material that's been used to create an adaptation shouldn't be treated as a gospel, and the information that's only present in the original material shouldn't be added, unless it's corroborated by the adaptation.

< report >Since when we can't leave the romanized name field empty in the character profile? It even says, that if the original name is in latin, then I can leave the romaji field empty, but when I try to submit, it says I should fill that field =0

Original name. The actual name of the character, in the case it is not officially in the Latin alphabet. (...) Leave empty if it's the same as the "Name (romaji)"
means you should leave the Original Name field empty and fill the Name (Romaji) field, not the otherway around.Last modified on 2022-02-23 at 15:22

If the cover has a word correctly but they made a typo on their web (and they sent this to the stores), can't we just follow the cover?

< report >yes. and make the "wrong one" as an alias since it's also a legitimate title. we already have similar case like Harem Game and Parallel Akiba Gakuen.

< report >Those cases are not similar. The mistakes were fixed because we standardize romaji and we clean this way any transcription error from the dev's side. Here, it's both English so there is nothing to use to fix the other side. It's everywhere but on the cover which is always the last source to use. Look at Sousyun which is not even standardized because there is no Japanese.
Not that I care, really. Sure, fix it, but because it's unintended. If it was, kinda (like Harlem), I would be against, tabun.Last modified on 2022-03-08 at 07:36

< report >the reason I said the two are similar is because the dev recognize that they made error in the title and fix it later, which mean the dev never intended that to be title of their work. they do it in Parallel Akiba Gakuen by fixing the title in the OP (or trailer?) movie, and the sequel's title in Harem Game case. it's a different case if the dev intended it the from the get go, and then change it for whatever reason like adding one character, adding edition clarifier, or changing the vn's title entirely.
sure they are in Japanese script, but even if the dev made an error in romaji title and they fix it by some means, then I believe it's justified to change the main title of the vn entry. I said the main title because in this case both title are right, but the intended title is more right for it, and the initial mistake is to be put as an alias.

besides, "they sent this to the stores" implies that the mistake was noticed shortly after the release, which mean it's not that much of a deal. but that just assuming things.
so to clear things up, @Mrkew which vn you're talking about?Last modified on 2022-03-08 at 09:23

< report >whoops, how could I missed that even on mobile...
anyway, I still stand on my opinion for that one, even when they noticed it a bit later and all stores put the initial mistake otherwise. although the release title will stay as is.

< report >Nobody wants to make mistakes. When I said it's kinda intended, I meant that the mistake went unnoticed, or at least for enough time that the game is known as <mistake>. If you look at Harlem Game, they couldn't afford a graphic designer to remove this letter so you still have the mistake even on the English Itchio page that states Harem Game. You have to go to Fakku to find the right graphic (four years to find a fix).
In the case of BIO H▲ZARD - Furangai - Niku to Kokoro o Kurau Machi, I renamed it because I checked the game itself. The pictures and path (BIOH▲ZARD腐乱街-肉と心を喰らう街-) use the right spelling. This is clearly a problem with whoever handled the marketing.

< report >#948 So the answer is no in all cases? The post you linked only mentions the case when it's adapted from another medium/source. In v63.8 the VN was apparently first written in Japanese and then translated to English, but original JP version was not released. This was also not an adaptation.
