< report >Can the English title for a JP VN be added if the English release isn't out yet? Don't see anything about it in the rules d2#2.Last modified on 2022-05-21 at 11:04

< report >Okay, apparently this was answered here.

Many translations are added as TBA first, at which point the title shouldn't be added to the VN yet

I think this should be more explicitly clarified in the rules at d2#2 since I often see people adding the English titles before they have released.

< report >Honestly, reverting a title from Mangagamer makes little sense. I understand the need if it had been some Spanish-Russian fantl you don't know if they will ever deliver, but it's fair to assume that MG will and that this is the definite title. Well, whatev'.

< report >The main idea behind not adding TBA titles, is the thought that some of them might turn into vaporware, or the title might get changed during the development. However, like Ileca has said, it's unlikely that an announcement from a group like MG will never be released or suddenly get a title change, so I have no problem with adding TBA titles from established companies.

< report >This is the second time I see that through t18438 and c13964.32.
Why the heck have compilations been taken into account when deciding the role of a character? Shouldn't they be ignored totally? By that logic, we should add characters to unrelated VN because they appear in a compilation including them. I mean, Kumoi Akari is marked as a main character of the main game because she is in the fandisc which happens to be included in Cruise Sign, the console editions.
Doesn't make much sense to me. Like I don't edit characters much, I want to make sure I am not missing anything.

< report >I mean you're right. It wouldnt make any sense otherwise. was it maybe a problem left over from before changes with how releases work? in any case I changed it to how I think it should be.

Many people believed that her route was part of main game in Cruise Sign, not the fandisc - which turned out to be not true ;)

in any case I changed it to how I think it should be.

Almost right ;) She's also main character in r63330 (patch for Steam version of Flight Diary, which is PC port and translation of Cruise Sign).Last modified on 2022-05-27 at 04:41

< report >For release dates, do we use the date at UTC +0 time or the one that is listed on the store (based on JST)?

< report >No, I mean this game. It was released yesterday on a bunch on platforms (but not Steam) and they all list the release date as 27 May. But when it was released, the date was 26 May in most locations including the UTC+0 region.

< report >Should be the timezone of the release's publisher's country of origin then. If we don't do that, we would have to change the date of all releases to the one from Baker Island, currently 26 May 2022 20:48 (UTC-12).Last modified on 2022-05-27 at 08:56

< report >Alright, I've changed the date. It'd be a good idea to add the clarification about following the time zone of the country of origin for the release date (except when it's on Steam) to the guidelines/faq.

< report >I was wondering why we are not doing that for steam when we know the publisher's country of origin too. It's very convenient to just have to check steamdb tho.

< report >It might cause a situation where a simultaneous JP/EN release results in the English release (on Steam) having a release date one day earlier thean the Japanese release (if available only on Japanese stores like DMM).

< report >r52571.13 is this right? i thought u could have "read along" translations and add them to the db and they would still count as complete
#1169 by Marc402

< report >I think it should be included in the software itself. A "read along" translation is a giant pain and turnoff for the average user. Plus the proofreading is not done, which would also make it partial. See link, TL is done but not proofreading so it's marked partial.

Edit: I did notice this "read along" translation (link) but the platform was set to 'website' which would be a good way to filter them out. But combining it with a release that has the platform set to Windows is a bit misleading imo.Last modified on 2022-05-27 at 18:49

< report >I would say the translation should either be fully patch-based, or fully read along in order to be considered complete.

< report >I'm with Cubky here. This case is some sort of patchwork half-here-half-there thing that we would do a disservice to label 'complete'. Once everything's included in the software, then it can finally be labeled 'complete'.

Is this a mod decision? This is a bit strange to me. I thought a complete release would entain a full translation of the text (as I've seen a couple translations with unfinished proofreading or editing marked as complete). Not that I'm complaining though, anything to make sure people don't read incomplete releases.

Edit: r62838 for example, where the main translator considered it unfinished but it was leaked by the editor who says that the editing was 100% completed. Not exactly the same thing, but if the translator deemed the translation "unfinished" I think the same criteria would apply.Last modified on 2022-05-27 at 20:09

< report >There were a few cases where the translation team decided to say "go to hell with the proofreading" and released a raw translation as 'complete'. But yes, 'complete' should usually be assigned when the translation is not only finished, but also finalized. In other words, after editing and proofreading. Usually the team clearly says when the patch is done and all the possible future updates will only be bugfixes, if there are any.Last modified on 2022-05-27 at 20:07
