< report >The Mermaid, the Sea and the Boy's Summer
Title The Mermaid, the Sea and the Boy's SummerIs this correct? I see the Japanese text in the logo, but not anywhere else (though I admit I don't know the game). But... is it right to have a Japanese "Original title" and a "Title" that is its English translation and not a transliteration? I would put 人魚と海と少年の夏 under the "Aliases" field, honestly. Otherwise, we should add "Ningyo to Umi to Shounen no Natsu" somewhere in the "Title" field, even though I don't think anyone knows or calls this novel as such.
Original title 人魚と海と少年の夏
Ribon o Kiranaide
Shouldn't we correct the title of the vn and of the releases to "Ribbon"?Last modified on 2019-03-04 at 02:48

< report >I need some help with editing the Switch releases of Bang-guseog-e In-eoagassi My Girlfriend is a Mermaid!?
The European/Japanese/Korean shops say "languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese" link link link
But the American Nintendo shop does not specify any languages link ...
1) Do I automatically assume it has got the same languages as the European one since the NA website sadly seems to be lacking languages information? (& it's published by the same publisher)
2) I read that the Switch is supposed to be region-free... is there a need to create separate NA/EU releases (especially since they have the same release date)?
3) The current releases r64173 r61985 r57021 just need the additional languages added, is that correct?Last modified on 2019-07-10 at 20:33

< report >I have pretty much took up the position that there is usually no reason for separate download version entries for Switch, as it's region free. So one DL version should serve all regions.
That also implies that your first statement is also correct. I would assume that the version is the same across all territories, hence the languages should also be the same.
As to your third question, you also seem to be correct. From what I can see, those are physical releases in different regions, but once again, according to all the info they should be identical, hence they are simply missing the languages. In order not to create undue confusion within the release field, a clarifier can be added to the title, like "JP Edition" or "KR edition".

< report >How do I use Birthrate Decline
Birthrate decline is the reason polygamy has been reintroduced to Japan and although birthrate decline is not a major talking point in the series but the polygamy that resulted from it is.
2 or 3?
There are similar examples like Shinkon Seikatsu where Birthrate decline is the setup but the story is moved forward by another element.
Games like Love Pote Gakuen ~Anata no Kodane de Haramitai~ are pretty straightforward 3s because not only is birthrate decline the main setup but also the focus for the game. But without Birthrate decline for the setup of the previous games the premise falls apart so I don't know whether to give them 2s or 3s.
Zettai Junshu ☆ Kozukuri Kyokashou Paradise!! ~Aa, Subarashiki Haramasekai~ and all its series. Men are uncommon (1 in 10,000 or 100,000 births depending on the game) but women are plentiful.
Still use birthrate decline?Last modified on 2019-08-30 at 22:20

< report >@barfboy: Considering you have played those games, I'm sure you are more qualified to say which rating fits better, plus these tag ratings are not a precise science. However, based on your description alone, I would most likely use 2 where the decline is not the focus of the game.
@shining17: t2108 should be used to request mergers. I know the title reads "deletion", but the thread is also used for other related edits (and merger results in at least one deletion anyway).

Says "episode 1 & 2", which I suppose is why this entry is partial. But is there ever going to be more? No, episode 3 was cancelled for lack of sales. Not sure how to handle that as putting the game as complete is misleading. The episodes are supposed to be stand-alone, though.
I was thinking about renaming the releases as "Miss Fisher and the Deathly Maze - Episodes 1 and 2" with a note, eventually appending the explanation to the vn's description.Last modified on 2019-09-18 at 11:24

I'm not sure if converting "Gyaru" to "Gal" is the right decision under the rules. There are a few examples already where it is romanised as is without converting. Last I checked, gyaru is not the same as gal in English as it has a specific meaning and context in Japanese which is not shared in the original English word.

< report >I agree and I almost reverted but the fear of starting a long heated debate stopped me (there was also the fact that she doesn't look like a gyaru at all even if her character description states it while not believing its own bs どちらかといえばギャルタイプ yeah right but it's right in your damn title duh).
It's like pantsu, you don't want to romanize that as pants.

All the physical rewards have now been shipped! They're coming by Air Mail from Japan, and we hope most of you will receive them on time for Xmas!Do we use the timestamp of this KS update? I have never dealt with such case but it should not be the first time it happens

Do we use the timestamp of this KS update?"Release date" should be the earliest known date that a release is available to the public (excluding person-dependent shipping time). So yeah, that timestamp seems good enough.

< report >If a patch for a 18+ VN is just adding voices (r69603), should it be set to 18+ too? The problem is that, by not doing so, the VN will now appear while searching for non 18+ VN.
I guess I could set it as 18+ as it should voice h-scenes but I want an answer for patches which are tweaking non porn stuff for a porn release. tl;dr: should the age rating of a patch be set with the age rating of the release it is patching? I think it should because of the aforementioned problem. Now, maybe there are patches which can be applied to multiple releases with different ratings, and the solution should be to add the lowest rating.
The exception would obviously be when patches are adding or removing porn content, as it affects the rating itself.
It is even more important if we consider t12808 issue.

should the age rating of a patch be set with the age rating of the release it is patching? I think it should because of the aforementioned problem.I... probably think so too. While the patch itself has no adult content, it's only applied on an adult version of the game. Moreover, as you have mentioned, not setting it as 18+ would make it appear while searching for non-18 VNs.
As for potential patches which affect releases with different ratings, though I don't know if there are any... I think we could get away with not setting a rating at all in such cases.

< report >When I deleted nhule, it stayed linked to r61048. Should I unlink it manually? The producer was deleted only because it was not linked to a completed project. It doesn't mean the producer is different, and if it is ever completed one day, the deletion will be removed and the producer will have to be linked back. The problem is that the linked producer leads to a deleted page.
I don't remember what happens when you delete other linked entities, if their links are automatically removed or if I am expected to do it? Maybe do I see the link because I am a dbmod? Or am I hallucinating the link? Does vndb actually exist? Am I real? Who am I? What is this shadow behind me?

< report >VNDB doesn't unlink anything automatically (at least, at the moment. this is an area that could probably be improved), so that's indeed a manual action. IMO for producers that could be undeleted in the future, I'd say keeping the link to a deleted entry is alright, doesn't really hurt anyone.
Everyone can see the link. You're not hallucinating it. VNDB exists both as a pattern of bytes on a server and as a pattern of thought distributed over many minds. For the last three questions I suggest you seek a professional.

< report >Do we allow aliases based on other methods of romanization because they are used by other websites (not official sources)? Such as those from Akibakei Kanojo > Akiba-kei Kanojo, Akibakei Kanojyo (legit because official), Akiba Kei Kanojo (edit: ok, that's a bad example as I don't know which one is the right one -____-) or link. I am against that because it means that _every_ title is eligible for a ton of new aliases. For example, anidb uses Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka and they have a different policy for loanwords (an eroge adaptation with baito would be turned into arbeit with them).Last modified on 2020-03-31 at 08:35
