First, thanks u35203, the yaoi tag at 3 is misleading and that where, we, poor lambs, find that there is an ugly and unsolicited character in this one: a woman. How disGUSTING!! Which means at best only half this nukige is good. She adds femdom for beginners (which might allow us to make a link with Do M Otoko Tantei ga Iku Katte ni Ittara Oshioki yo!, their first localized product). I guess it's a nukige for people with the right tastes but not ripped enough to go full homo and who need some female light-pegging kickstand to make them sure-footed.
That wouldn't be a problem if this creature wasn't an annoyance with over stereotypical personality neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee? that takes too much place and who doesn't have any common sense. As if the plot had any common sense in it in the first place but, sometimes, stupid plot means comedy, which won't be the case here unless you are charmed by the nonsense this irritating moron brings. It's happy-go-lucky writing of professionals who really want you to have a taste of what means low in low price brand.
A plot that obviously has nothing to do with what happens. They found a random reason to create a unit of otokonoko but never tell anyone about that and who cares anyway about the idol part when it's all about "special training" in the club room. Btw, it reminded me t8799. Same stupid reason, different stupid development. Someone had to write something so we can had two cross-dressing boys rubbing their dicks together or a cross-dressing boy being kindly titillating by a senpai in the middle. The beginning and the end weren't guaranteed. Someone did it now go eat your ramen cup and don't expect me to thank you pieceworker. Gladly it's short because as much as in Ani Love ~Josou Bishounen Kakumei!~ I recently read, what is not sex is a fucking pain to read, as if we cared about what they are trying to say when everything is so imbecilic and stereotypical.
As much as the woman is inconvenient, you won't have any action with the fans like there is no point with the idols. I found those covers very dishonest (not that I really care), I am talking about this one and some from Otoko no Ko Club, where they display the otokonoko like if there was some kind of normal protag in it (like they are watching _you_) when it's shota x shota. Here, nothing about Kuriyama Aya when they didn't had the ballz to make a nukige 100% otokonoko. Btw, the protag is not voiced and you will retort that's it's what it's used to be but the protag is an otokonoko and should therefore be voiced as much as female protagonists are voiced.
Well, Ume Soft usual mediocrity. With no VN spammed in 2016, you can bet the reason behind those localizations is that japanese started to understand how much they suck so they had to relocate. It's time for them to die. I offer myself to give them the final kick because it was so fucking hard to write something about School Idol ♂ Itoshi no Qtie Cool. Oh, my skill Speechify On (under Charisma) just got +1. Nice.Last modified on 2017-02-15 at 10:58

< report >As I understand it, the protagonist is supposed to be a self-insert for a player who wants to imagine himself crossdressing, hence no voice acting and a default sprite of a generic faceless eroge protag, but a detailed sprite of his crossdressed alter ego. Obviously that won't change your opinion, but it's a plus if that's what you're looking for.

< report >Fair point even though I have more counter-examples of protagonists being voiced because they are otokonoko. It allows people who can't identify with shota to enjoy the shota from an observer standpoint like if it was some yuri action. While I was identifying with... what his name again? Hmm... Haruka, it troubled me not to hear his voice. I took the faceless tachie as a way to emphasize the fact he is gloomy, bored and with no real presence until he cross-dresses and founds his "true self" that gives him a substance. One more thing is that his real name 大谷有輝 is never heard when he is written. You don't need to censor his real name for identification purpose unless there is a Nameable Protagonist feature, which is not the case here.
But you are right, they played it old school, what would allow them to save a salary, which should be the reason number one.

< report >Oh, I'm sure the salary had something to do with it, just pointing out a stylistic justification =P
Love Love Otoko no Ko Ryou ~Boku o Ubaiau Otouto to Net Idol and Ototama ~Boku-tachi Girls Band Desu~ also have non-voiced otoko no ko protags, but that's all I can think of offhand.

Anyway, and just as a side note, Ume Soft's first localised title was Harajuku Dating Paradise, not the Masochist Detective thingy. And Idol QT Cool does have a nameable protagonist feature, you just have to go through the installer in order to access it. Whether it works is a different story, though.
As for the VN itself, I thought it was a cute and mostly vanilla nukige featuring a self-insert protagonist, which also seemed to work as a sort of gateway title to fetishes like femdom and traps - probably good for people who are mildly interested in that stuff but never had much contact with it before.

< report >Oh yeah, you are right, the installer crashed on me when setting the saves but I see the greyed option.
If you want a gateway for otokonoko, there is plenty of mediocre but still better nukige than this crap. Like Frillboy or Otoko no Ko Club. Not that I would recommend them. Maybe stuff drawn by Aogiri Penta if you want something better.
Cute and vanilla are no excuse. In fact, it's a bad one.
