< report >Is it possible to allow line spacing in the Notes section in your VN list? I'd ask for formatting but maybe that is asking too much and would be more work. As it is right now, if you try to add line spacing in your notes by using Enter or if try to format your notes into paragraphs, then the line spacing is automatically removed when you are done editing & refresh the page.

If it's possible to implement line spacing it would help making the notes section seem more neat and organized (or would allow you to have your notes consist of short bullet points instead of writing up text walls.

Would appreciate it if the option was available but I understand if it's not a focus to implement.

< report >It just occurred to me that it would be nice to have patches catalogued in the DB as well. Patches in the traditional sense, i.e. official ones that fix stuff post-release. They are patch-type releases, aren't they?

It's often far from obvious whether there is a patch for a given game / what the latest version is. Even EGS usually contents itself with saying that there is one, probably, and it's hardly reliable in that regard, but info that might help acquiring said patch, not so much.

Case in point, I probably wouldn't have found the SakuMoyu patch if I hadn't stumbled across t19973—it isn't even mentioned on the game's homepage, AFAICS, just in Favorite's main support section. Laplacian have seen fit to scrub the original 18+ release of Hakuchūmu no Aojashin, patch and all ... And of course studios just go tits-up and take their websites with them.

Now, nothing much ever gets lost on the internet, but knowing that there is a patch, plus the version, official filename(s), and MD5 or other checksum would make all the difference between being able to find the things and not. Ideally there'd also be a way to specify what (base) releases it does or doesn't apply to—no use hunting for a patch if the release you have is pre-patched anyway—and/or conversely, a way to specify a patch-level/version for releases.

To avoid cluttering the release listing too much, older versions of patches that have been fully superseded could be pruned as a rule.

< report >Argument given for deletion of this title, is pretty nonsensical. I actually played it. And VN part was pretty much solid part of game. On the contrary proclaimed movie part was pretty negligible. There were only animated sex scenes and few major scenes, with rest being you usual static VN game. Just with realistic looking images.
So, unless you come with different more solid reason, I suggest restore entry for game.

< report >Based on the demo it's impossible to consider this game a VN, unless it somehow becomes very different from the demo later on.

< report >So, you made judgement on demo only? I see. You couldn't make a more wrong impression, then. Let's say it like this. Demo is basically only initial long intro animation. It's nowhere so prominent after that. Only the ero scenes and a few key story scenes with Sakurako are animated. Rest of game looks more like this:

In other words, a typical static sprites and CGs. It's basically a very simple VN with sim dating elements, which fills over 50% of the gameplay. So definitely not so "interactive movie" as you can wrongly think from demo.

< report >That looks pretty VN-ish. But... the only text I see in there is dialogue (and a choice). Is it actually narrated? I do believe that's a critical component of the analysis.

< report >I've been out of the VN scene for a good while, and I remember VNDB used to be very strict that VNs needed to be narrated. But I see some recent examples of so-called VNs on the site that have no narration. In fact, there's even a tag for these games, Dialogue Based. So I'm a bit confused as to whether things have changed and these are actually allowed now.

< report >@fllthdcrb: continued in t2108.5128

@Yirba: Narration is only a requirement for hybrids, dialog-only is accepted only if there's no gameplay.

< report >All right boys, let's continue that discussion in t2108.5128, so we can keep this thread for VNDB suggestions.
Edit: Beaten by Yorhel >_<

Speaking of which... Hopefully I'm not being too pushy for requesting for the 3000th time Patreon (one for the main page and other for the posts) and SubscribeStar links for releases.
And maybe BOOTH links; I've seen some indie/doujin games linked only to that website in notes.Last modified on 2023-04-02 at 11:45

BOOTH
I find 530 links in notes, yeah that warrants a link. I'm seeing two formats:
https://<publisher>.booth.pm/items/<id>
https://booth.pm/<language>/items/<id>
Looks like every product is available at both URLs with the same <id>. <language> appears to only affect the shop UI. I propose normalizing to the latter so that we don't have to store the <publisher> tag in the database, but then you'll not get the publisher-themed shop page (e.g. generic page vs. publisher's page).

< report >I prefer the former, only because I think it is the most used link in the database and by publishers in their websites.
Besides, the page will have the language preference of users who use BOOTH regularly, instead of using whatever language was used when adding the link.

However, if you want to change how the publisher name is stored in the database, I think that's enough reason to go for the latter. And the language is just minor inconsistency that may not be needed to be fixed at all since it doesn't change the language preference of the website. Maybe force a language and store only the id?Last modified on 2023-04-02 at 18:43

< report >Alrighty, booth link added storing only the ID. Automatic conversion from the notes is a major pain in the ass, so there's a bunch of releases left to convert, in case someone's bored.

EDIT: As for Patreon, there's about 460 post links and 1600 creator links. For SubscribeStar it's about 200 creator links. Most are in the website field, so at least the conversion should be easy.Last modified on 2023-04-03 at 14:21

< report >Patreon & SubscribeStar links added as well, plus a list of releases I couldn't easily convert automatically.
For Patreon there's a bunch of links in the /user?u=<id> format, these need to be converted to their username.Last modified on 2023-04-05 at 12:08

< report >Speaking of links, Amazon (JP) links (for releases)? You'd only need to store the ASIN, obviously.

Personally, I wouldn't mind the generated links being affiliate(?) ones, either.

< report >Perhaps more of a policy suggestion than a feature one, but could the limit on the number of screenshots perhaps be applied per language (or even per release, if that's easier)? Every time a VN gets translated, people "helpfully" start kicking out Japanese screenshots in favour of English ones ...

I get that English readers are more interested in English screenshots, but the same is true for Japanese readers (and probably ones who read in Spanish, Chinese, ... as well). It shouldn't be either/or, IMHO.

< report >Re. image flagging,

1) could we have an interface with 9 buttons, one for each possible combination? That way it's only one click per image, not two. It adds up.

2) Bonus points for mapping them to number keys (numpad), if keyboard shortcuts are possible.

3) An undo function? I haven't messed up yet, but ...

4) Depending on whether you have enough people voting, being able to set a daily(?) target for a number of images to flag, and being reminded to do so—similar to the notifications—would probably get me to actually do it sometimes. ;)

< report >For (3) there's «« symbol in the top left corner to go back to your previous votes, and you can review and change all your votes from your profile page. You can even order it by differences in voting.

While we're at incentive for voting, what keeps me from doing it more is that I misuse that flagging history page as an overview for images I've uploaded myself and I haven't found a way to filter out others' images.

That already exists. Keyboard numbers 1-9 cover all the possibilities.
