< report >This is a minor thing, but I find the relationship edit form to be quite confusing.

The way relationships are phrased makes sense for half of the relationships, but for Spawned/Originated from and for Formerly/Succeeded by you get sentences that essentially have to be read backwards. For example,
[X] is an [Originated from] of this producer
should be read as
this producer [Originated from] [X]

Consequently I end up over-thinking it every time I look at that edit form.

A simple solution might be to show relationships (roughly) the same way they are shown on a producer page, as '[Relationship]: [X]', which is both much easier to parse (IMO) and gives a closer correspondence between the front page and the edit page.

Here's a quick edit to show what I mean, comparing the producer front page, the current edit form, and the layout I envisioned: link

< report >Yes, please Yorhel! Spawned/Originated from and Formerly/Succeeded always stump me for a few minutes, and even when I make an edit I don't know if i have chosen correctly until I see the result.

< report >A minor inconsistency: The "Other" platform setting has an empty icon. Hovering over this empty space will make an "Other" tooltip appear in a search page, but inside a visual novel's release listing section (not to be confused with the Release tab of a visual novel, since the tooltip does appear there), hovering it will make no tooltip appear.

Done!
Thank you!

If I can make another suggestion, then it would be to the default 'Age rating' for new releases from 'All ages (CERO A)' to 'Unknown': Unlike 'Type', 'Official', 'Patch', 'Freeware', and 'Doujin', which all default to the overwhelmingly most common option, the 'Age Rating' drop-down defaults to a value that only applies to about 10% of releases from what I can see. This means that forgetting to update that field very likely results in incorrect information in the database, rather than merely missing information. And I have caught myself forgetting to update that field a few times.

< report >I think it'd be useful to have a notification option on staff/producers pages so people can learn when a new game has been added to them. Like, you enable it on a page, someone adds a game, links that staff/producer and you get a notification.

< report >Suggestion to make it handier:

#1 "Manage Notifications - new Releases" (I'm talking about the little bell, so no advance search function)

So if a new version comes out, you get notified.

if possible: to be able to select the language of the VN

And even better If it is partial or full.

So end result: anyone goes on a [VN]'s page, clicks on the bell in the corner and simple clicks to get notified for new release + a drop list for language and completion

#2 Email if new notifications (because I keep waking up with weeks-old ones when I don't read VNs) as I am unable to find this function anywhere I look....

#3 Easy add Start/End date from VN's main page. As right now, I need to go to "My list", filter by {paying} let's say, to add start/end date (thank you for the start/end date function btw! I really love it). So I really wish to just select Playing/Finished and with one click, the start/end date is added

This is a start suggestion for #3. I'm sure there are some complications, like what if they select dropped (I say: finish date) or Stalled? But I'm sure people will give feedback to improve once it's running so a simple version would be enough I guess. Btw, here is one: Don't make it automatically in case someone accidentally click the wrong label

< report >i dont know if this had been discussed but i want to search for uncensored VNs (basicly official english release). theres no uncensored/decensored tag and when i search for english translated, they usually include unofficial and therefore will still be censored.

< report >This might've been suggested before (sorry if it has) but VNDB should add favourite character and favourite VN feature similar to MAL and AniList.

< report >I know spoiler for character name and alias is most likely on the planned feature list, but is coding it so different from spoiler for character sex which was added last year? I expected it to be implemented shortly after, but quite some time has passed since then, and spoiler character names still have to be put in the description, making them unsearchable even with enabled spoilers.

< report >d8.21
More clever string matching for other DB entries is something I may work on in the future, but I haven't seen anyone complain about the search for a while so doesn't seem like a priority.
I do have some complaints regarding string matching.

1) t950.742
2) Tag/Trait search probably should ignore hyphens. link doesn't return Text-only Sexual Content, but it probably should.
3) The results I get from, say, link don't make any sense to me.
4) Currently, searching for, say, One will match with every string that contains one in it, such as Abandoner. I feel like this may not always be desirable. If searching for "One" (with quotation marks around it) would match strings where One is really a separate word, that would be really great.
5) Would asking for regex support be too much?

< report >It might be useful with producer/staff relationships, similar to producer/producer relationships. These could include relationships like founder, owner, and member/employee, though several of these relationships would probably need a "former" toggle or something like it.

In addition, it would be useful with a 'same entity' relationship for those individuals/groups/companies that both do solo work in addition to collaborative work or work for hire. This type of relationship is something I've seen a lot with indie-developers, who frequently exist both as producers and as staff, and it would be nice to be able to track it. As an example, see Marionette Code and Marionette.

< report >Since you apparently can't post in threads of deleted users, I'll post this here:

< report >At least do not anonymize accounts of users who deleted their account after they were criticized for their edits. It became impossible to fix his stuff now, if you don't plan on reverting (I have no opinion about what he has done).

< report >Since we got the new pretty VN tab for producers, could it be sortable by title? Maybe even a filter so we can filter out VNs where they're only the publisher.
EDIT: Also a way to set which tab is default would be nice.Last modified on 2021-04-07 at 22:15

< report >Steam is adding a UTM function to the store pages of games on the platform, allowing developers to see additional data about web traffic for marketing. (link)

As a developer, could I request that it be made possible to add a URL extension for Steam game links, so the traffic sourced from VNDB can be identified? (for example, using a link like link)Last modified on 2021-04-08 at 02:08

< report >After voting on a tag, have the spoiler setting set by default to the level of spoiler it was formerly marked as.

< report >#923 I disagree. You should vote on the level of spoiler you feel applies (you have played the game, haven't you?) or if you're unsure just don't vote on the spoileryness and it won't affect the current level, unless you're the first voter.Last modified on 2021-04-09 at 10:40

< report >#924 I just thought it'd be easier to see at a glance what other people consider spoiler in the game/VN. Sometimes I see threads started because one user is mad at another for changing the spoiler level on what was previously set, since hardly anyone leaves notes on tags to justify.

But yeah whatever, in hindsight this doesn't seem like a feature worth taking the time to implement. Sorry to bug y'all.
