Also, "average route length". How is that even interesting? Not only it's pretty useless but most VN are not even stereotypical charage. I look at my list and I see that the majority wouldn't be subject to that stat. So you want to add a stat on the main page for a substrate of VN to satisfy a substrate of readers? Even if it has characters routes, not all have common route. Take Phantom of Inferno, how do you measure route length? Good luck to know where a route starts and ends. And it's just one example.
Looking at your screen, tigershark, I see 22H for a 30-50, meaning a 8-28 average route length. Well...
(Can work only with a voting system like EGS asking for when the VN stop being fun to you.)
You are not reading the number as intended. What I propose is NOT a modifier to the VN length, but a rough estimate of how long does it take to complete only 1 route/path/end. (Maybe the use of ~ character led u to think of std deviation, my bad).
So, if the VN TOTAL length is 30-50, but route length is 22, u have a rough idea of how many hours will take to reach a first ending.
You can change the field name to whatever serves the same purpose like "common route length" or similar. And we can give it fixed values in the form of time slots or just percentage (of total length).
Ideally, we would have more precise tags than the current "Long Common Route" and have most vn properly tagged, but currently nobody seems to care to use those tags.Last modified on 2018-01-10 at 15:37

Can official websites be put on the main page of each VN? This may be a huge undertaking but it's bothersome to have to go back to the page for the developer then locate the game title to get to the release page so we can move to the official site.
Maybe there's an easier way to do it and I just suck as usual.

I'm surprised that you can add a release without a developer/publisher.
Is there a report or something to find these orphan releases?
In particular, one that reports VNs where the only release around has no company linked to it. Those would be quite important to fix, I guess.
(I'm not terribly interested in fixing these entries, but someone might.)

Ah yes, once in a while I run some reports. Here's a few.
Producers without releases (not necessarily bad if they have relations): link
Unlinked staff entries: link
Unlinked staff aliases: link
Releases without producer (not necessarily bad if it is WIP project): link
VNs without releases: link
VNs without producer (includes the previous VNs): link
Characters without VN: link
And for fun, skin popularity (excluding the default): linkLast modified on 2018-01-21 at 13:02

And it was one of the two skins which were tolerable to me. All the others had so prominent background images that they made the text illegible.

Could you make the Staff box a tad larger by default? link
It's not very useful if it cuts off at three names. Currently the cutoff height is at 100 pixels AFAICT. Maybe make it 200 or so?
Actually, I'd like a per-user setting that turns these box-cutters off completely.
(On the other hand, the Releases box is happy to take a whole screenful even though I view it as the least interesting box myself... I mean, past the first few entries...)

@leery: Hmm your browser doesn't scale the box dimensions with the font size increase (looks like Firefox doesn't, either). At the normal (unreadable) font size there'd be a few more names in there.
I still agree that 100px is small, so doubled.

Would it be possible to have a flag (manual, like nsfw) in the database for screenshots that are subpar or against policy or similar?
Current policy -- which I find quite rude -- seems to be to delete the screenshots, but I think that /any/ screenshots is better than no screenshots. Maybe with such a flag the bad screens could be kept?
The flag would just basically be a reminder to improve the entry, no more.
For example, Ore to Kanojo ga Mystery na Ken ni Tsuite has bad screens: strange resolution, filled with jpeg artefacts. I'd mark those screens.
(I do wonder whether the 1024x768 resolution in the VN's release info is even correct. The CG samples on getchu are widescreen, for example. It just makes no sense.)
(Also, there are quite a few of us who can't abide by the "maximum resolution available" policy for screenshots... I don't have a 1920x screen, you see. Not that it matters, since I'm not playing games from this decade... But laptops with screens as small as 1366x are still pretty common.)Last modified on 2018-02-16 at 16:35

Not a huge fan of such a flag, but I don't mind relaxing the resolution guidelines to state that native resolution is preferred rather than required. Uploads that only consist of CGs or other non-screenshots should still warrant deletion, IMO.

I was thinking it could be used for other things too.
I saw an entry the other day which had screens from the English and the Russian releases. The Russian screens were from the same scenes as the English ones (but not of the same lines -- so it passes the "no comparison screenshots" rule).
In other words, the Russian screens were near-identical to the preexisting English ones except for the text.
I figured something like that could be tagged too.

There's "default filters", which is lovely for filtering out all those OELVNs I don't care about. Can we have a "default sort order" too?
I keep having to click on "order by Released" just to get the list to display some games I recognise.

The screenshots display has a "language" icon to mark a release.
Can it have a "Platform" icon too?
For example, Memories Off: Yubikiri no Kioku is confusing since there are two "Regular Editions" that have identical titles, but when I click through to the release, I see that one is for the XBox and other for the PlayStation.

Could you please make the tag sorting buttons on the VN page? Sorting by "weight" (by default) and sorting by name. Sometimes I'm trying to find a certain tag through dozens of them, but alas. Sorting by alphabetical order would help a lot. Also, it would be more convenient for users to separate the content/sexual/technical categories of tags with horizontal lines. Because now it's just a mess with no practical use.Last modified on 2018-03-27 at 12:08

Could you please make the tag sorting buttons on the VN page? Not directly what you're asking, but if you don't mind spoilers, the 'modify tags' tab provides a more ordered overview of the tags.

Not directly what you're asking, but if you don't mind spoilers, the 'modify tags' tab provides a more ordered overview of the tags.Well, yes, but it adds another click to user's navigation.
How do you mean? Completely separate tag listings for those categories?Yes. Please, don't link me to 'modify tags' button again xD
Also, when searching for VN with variety of tags, it would be greate to specify the diapason of rating points that these tags should have. For example, if I wanna find the VN with 'Dark Skinned Heroine' and 'Anal sex', this implies that I wanna these two tags to have at least score 2.0 or higher. I won't be satisfied with one of the tags with a rating of 0.1, even if another tag will have a rating of 3.0. Now our search engine returns any combinations of score, and this is not the right thing, imo.

Completely separate tag listings for those categoriesHonestly, I think that might just get even messier. Or cause a lot of empty space. Or both. But I'm not really interested in revamping the tag display at the moment. If you have a good proposal we could get it into V3.

I think the 'Score' column displayed in the search results is the tags' average, i.e. your 0,1 + 3,0 example would display a 1,55 score.

Everytime I am on a visual novel's page and I'm looking at the users' vote stats, I find myself scrolling back to the top of the page to find out which vote I gave. Then, I need to scroll back down to keep on reading the vote stats. I think it would be nice if my own vote would appear again in there to compare it with what other users voted without having to scroll up and down.
