VNDB Suggestions!

I do mean to be used on other sites, I'm not sure how you figure that my first post indicate VNDB...

I don't mean just banners, I mean dynamic status banners...

for example, here's my MAL banner

link

the link itself is usually wrapped with [img] tag and the [url] tag redirecting clickers to the user's full list...

The image background, text color, etc can be changed. Once I added a new anime/ manga series as <watching> or <completed> in MAL, the signature self updates to reflect that change so it is always up to date. So, when I update MAL, people always know what I am currently watching and what I have recently watched.

VNDB already has the status feature (<playing>, <finished>, <stalled>, etc)Last modified on 2011-03-04 at 06:07

Well, I have no more ideas about this. Sorry, wish you can have it the way you envisioned.

that's cool..I just thought it'd be nice to have something like that...

@saberger: You must be an expert on misunderstanding people, seriously. His intention was pretty clear in his first post.

@justinefremlouw: I'm sorry, but I've never understood the use of such dynamic banners. In fact I've always found them annoying and I disable signatures on pretty much every other board I visit. However, my personal opinion on this doesn't really matter, since even if VNDB has them I won't have to see the banners anyway, and it may even be good promotion for VNDB. So in that sense I'm not against having such a feature, but nor do I feel like spending time on implementing that. >_>

ah i see...I use them to promote not only the database site, but also the VNs I play...Especially for VNs, people are often unfamiliar with them and are unaware of the existing gems out there. Also, in forums where I moderate, people often ask me for recommendations regarding translated VNs.

Well, like I've already said, I just stated it cause I thought it would be nice to have...

Thanks for the consideration anywayLast modified on 2011-03-04 at 07:11

You know, it occurred to me that it'd be pretty nice if a statistic for the number of routes would be put up on each VN's page, possibly optionally hidden in case someone doesn't want to see, but it'd be nice to be able to tell how many routes something has at a glance. (Yeah, you can kind of guess by counting the amount of ______ heroine tags, but it'd be more convenient to just see a straight number.)

I think that is a kinda useless feature because lots of games have small routes of 10 minutes or so. The "lenght" info tab is probably good enough for most people, however it might be more specific.

I troll you, dacasa; It's length, not lengt :P

And I agree with echo, but I want to put this into that feature too, sometimes, I want to know " Will this heroine has her own route?". Some games don't want to do justice for the heroines they hate. Damn those writers.

But I think, this better be implemented in the "characters database", yorhel.

Father Moon can have meaning, lengt can't. Your logic, you fail.

It's VNDB, threads get locked down.

Thats not true.
Before mods didn't have to lock so many threads as they do now.

And even then, the reason for locking was different.

That's true. When I first signed up here in fall of '09, there were barely any threads being locked down. That's changed now to the point where it's becoming a bad joke. The mods might want to change strategies and consider banning certain posters since it seems to be the same offenders plunging threads into the depths of stupidity over and over again.Last modified on 2011-03-06 at 04:03

I've been thinking about doing something like that, but I'm not entirely sure on how it'll work. The char db should at least make it easier to guess the number of routes. :-)

I think that the definition of 'routes' might be a little murky. Do we have a standard definition for what constitutes a route?

I think there is,but yorhel will have a lot of works to do :P

1. Classify by length (significant/ non-significant, long/short/medium)
2. Classify by role/characters (main/support/trifle)
3. Classify by characteristic (true end/ untrue, bad end/good end)

Basically, we make a tag system for the route one, and define route as the endings represented in the game. So, of course, different endings will be different routes, and one ending will indicate one route.

But in the end, because the complicated nature of the system, we probably need 1 "routes database" for the site, and it must be connect with the "character database" somehow....

Ps: Ignore the post if you think it's stupidLast modified on 2011-03-07 at 06:45

How about a 'non bump' post option?

I'm not sure what purpose it would serve but it would be pretty cool! ;_;

If i understood your idea right, that would be one of the most useful features the discussion board would have.

Hm... Well rather than a straight route number, why not give a route length that gives an estimation of the amount of unique content in each route, along with the length of the common route? That information would probably be more useful than just a count. Could put it under the regular length thingie. That would also help the length estimation be a bit more useful, as something with one long 20-hour route is a very different experience than something with several shorter routes that add up to the same amount of time.

I'd read a development roadmap but didn't saw there one important thing.
The most useful feature of the Erogescape is the scenario writer/CG artists fields. I think vndb should implement these fields too.
